This makes me want to share a certain aspect of Korean life: Here in South Korea, Christmas is not a day for family or church, but a day for dating couples. Why? Back in the military regime days, there was a national curfew that made being outside after midnight illegal. You literally could be arrested for being on a date for too long. But on Christmas eve and Christmas day it was lifted for churchgoers. It was meant for devout people who prayed into the late hours of the night, but of course this meant that people claimed to be going to church even if they weren't religious. And thus couples enjoyed their time together under the blessing of baby Jesus, and that vibe continues to this day.Good morning friends - here fresh from work - so many babies born today!
How is this related to babies? Well, birth rates tend to go up around late August to early September, which suggests that a lot of babies were conceived around Christmas. And thus the two themes of Christmas are united, couples forming families by having children. Fun, isn't it?
