I also am not buying the propaganda that Chock and Bates’ FD is “amazing”, “goosebumps” inducing, “phenomenal”, or “brilliant”. Quite the contrary for me, it may be the weakest FD they’ve had in their careers since “Imagine” in the 2018 Olympic season.

I prefer Green and Parsons’ FD over the other two American teams at this event. If they were not coming back from injury and the disappointment of last season falling out of the top 3 at US Nationals, they likely could have medaled here, but they’ve lost so much momentum and political favor with the judges that will take time and consistency to rebuild.

I also enjoyed the French Demougeot/Le Mercier and was sad to see them marked so low compared to last season.

I probably would have placed Allison and Saulius ahead of Christina and Anthony’s unconvincing “Carmen”. “Carmen” calls for passion and I felt no fiery seduction in their portrayal of the story.

I am so weary of championships with predictable results where the judges so clearly favor one competitor or team instead of having a competition with multiple challengers for the gold medal. Where is the joy of watching these events if the judges so clearly favor Ilia Malinin or Chock and Bates that Yuma Kagiyama and Gilles and Poirier don’t stand a chance? At least the pairs and women’s events are starting to have real intrigue with multiple challengers emerging for the gold medal.

I am beginning to weary of the everlasting and oh so predictable yearly chorus against C/B whatever they do, and I'm not even a fan. :frown:
I like C/B, but it is normal that others don't. We all have preferences. They are the best in the world at some things and not the best in the world at others. They are overscored in some PCS categories, but their competitors are also overscored in other categories and not the best in the world all the aspects of skating either. I do wish people would be less dramatic and more balanced, but criticism is normal and I am sure they don't care. They seem like very kind, happy, and well-balanced individuals.

I rather disagree. The last few seasons, there have been 3 competitors vying for the top. Yes, C/Bs have come out on top, but I wouldn't say that it is because the judges were unwilling to go with G/P or G/F. C/B are just pretty good at peaking when they need, too. That's what happened in 2023. In 2024, G/P did win the LP at Worlds. I think C/B just had a much better RD last season that carried them..the top three teams all had good FDs. I think G/P and C/B are co-favorites for gold.

I do agree with you about G/Ps though, they are my favorite of the teams here, too. However, they do seem to need to build back power. I imagine they are a bit slow now. Hopefully, they will be rewarded for their strong basics more as they get faster.

This season has also been, especially, unpredictable in ice dance. The favorites have been losing. This isn't something that often happens in ice dance. I don't think the results are predetermined at all.

I was very unconvinced about both of C/Bs programs at Skate America, but also know how much they grow their programs as the season progresses. I was enchanted by the FD tonight. Just my reaction.

Completely love Gr/Par this season - both programs are superb! They are so special and I hope they continue to build momentum.

I'm very happy that Misato Komatsubara has retired. she was one of the most beautiful women on the ice, but also one of the most boring. even then I fell asleep when she was a ghost buster... these Japanese couples (and the juniors) are much, much more interesting

Anyone has a link to FD or is it in the music rights jail atm?

I actually disagree that the results this year are in any way predetermined. Favorites lost left and right this season and it was all over the place in all 4 disciplines. Kagiyama loses when he loses because he is not 100% stable and his performance is bland when he skates alongside his charismatic and extravert competitors, after incredibly charismatic and musical Uno, and all of his top rivals have higher technical content.

In the vacuum left behind by my two favourite skaters retiring, my cold, cold figure skating heart finds solace in goth Allison and Saulius in his tuxedo. An unexpected foray into the ice dance discipline for me.

This also sounds way more dramatic than it actually is.

I really wish JSF sends ice dance teams to more comps like challengers etc. Both teams have a lot of potential but they need to compete a lot more, get experience, get recognition and more important - to show off to the judges and raise those scores.

I agree about Green and Parsons. I prefer them over Christina and Anthony in general. I don't dislike the Bates' FD but they've done better.
And I really liked the choreo of the lower ranked teams in this comp.

I agree that C/B do seem to peak at the right time - they seem to build steadily towards the world championships. I want Piper and Paul to win gold this year but they need to skate with the freedom they did in their FD last year at worlds, for both programmes.

I like C/B’s FD - it’s not my favourite of all their FDs but their skate today was very classy and smooth IMO and I always appreciate them trying different things. I thought their interpretation was fantastic.

I’m in the minority - I really liked CPom’s FD but I also thought G/P were fabulous!

Does this one work for you? It's the official ISU one.

Thank you. No, it is blocked for musical rights, which confirms that I will have to wait till ISU clears it. Russians are on, so I'll pick up the dance in a couple of days.

It's just Canada, we often get stricter blocks. So, it just doesn't show up in the regular line-up and when linked directly is locked away.
In Poland it's also blocked. But ISU posted all free dance performances separately in video section.

I wonder how many programs in Madison Chock’s long and illustrious career, have featured that very same shimmy move
Madi-shimmy ™️ since 2011
It needs its own gif

I prefer to wait until the full competition is released since it's just not the same when it's separate videos. It usually doesn’t take very long 😅🤩
