I had exactly the same thoughts some time ago (security and little bit also moral) but then I tried and it was pretty worthy step (all the paid challengers, VPN needed nationals and so)
I don't know if my telephone is not somehow in danger, but they are no signs of danger so far (after a year or so)
But it's up to everybody personal set up, of course.
