2025 CS Lombardia Trophy Men's Free Skate

Not my favourite Ilia long program (it's mainly the voiceovers that bother me, although I think they're quite meaningful to him so at least there's intentionality there) but choreographically this program is really solid and it's insane how easy his quads look, I think his connection to the music in between the quads has really improved and I appreciate him choosing to put out a lower BV here to focus on the performance side of this program (although lower BV just means like 5 quads lol). Ilia always does a really amazing choreo sequence!
Lol JUST 5 quads.

I think that is one possible Olympic podium.
We will have to see what Shaidorov brings to the table.

For those who missed watching Ilia live, here's a recap of some of his motivational voiceovers:

"The elevator to success is out of order. You'll have to use the stairs, one step at a time."

"Believe you can and you're halfway there."

"If you can't fly, then run; if you can't run, then walk; if you can't walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward".

"Every corpse on Mount Everest was once a motivated person."

"Why be moody when you can shake yo booty?"

Have we ever heard from Shaidorov so far?

My one concern with Malinin's VOs is that Gumennik is bringing back Onegin, but I can't remember if Gumennik had vo or if it was Aliev's Onegin. Not that they necessarily skate close, and i hope it was Aliev...

"Believe you can and you're halfway there" — Theodore Roosevelt.

Aww, 'if you can't fly...' was used in Firefly. Now I miss that show.

Also want Malinin skate as Mal Reynolds. I mean... the attitude! The name! Tight pants!

Oh I loved Firefly too! It was so shiny!
I think Firefly ended the quote with 'if you can't crawl, you find someone to carry you.' It was the last episode too.

That's it, Malinin must be told. He has to see how it's destiny. He is Mal. It's too perfect to not happen!

Well, I'll be the party pooper.

Ilia's program would be improved immensely with the removal of the voiceovers.

I typically enjoy his skating a lot, but it is beyond pretentious for a 20-year-old to share his vague philosophical wisdom, and in his own voice even. "The lost is in the unknown" "Past is not a chain, but a thread..." What does that even mean? I've often praised him for being authentic to himself, but this... no.

The program as a whole, minus that nonsense, has possibilities. I especially liked that he's moving away from the bombastic ending. It's new. And there were some interesting non-jump elements. The raspberry twist in the middle of the spin is crazy.

Sorry to say but this sounds like someone piled together several "deep-sounding" quotations read over slow music with a pretentiously "deep" voice to give the program a pretence of depth they are sadly not able to create with their skating....
