2025 European Championships Free Dance

That was an enjoyable watch with some nice surprises. I liked Olivia and Tim and their Dune programme the first time I saw it, and it's getting better and better. Wow! And the Fins are really on the rise - not just that super tango by Juulia and Mattias but Yuka and Yuho's chorus line too. Evghenia and Geoffrey are having a bit of a break out season, and rightly so. I am pleased for them. I liked all the Dances, but obviously the closer you get to the podium and on it, the better it gets. I am with Chris that the stand out performances were Olivia and Tim as well as Juulia and Mattias. I like it too that there's some movement in the standings - it should never be like the men's but a bit of a differential keeps it exciting.

Actually, in all seriousness, is it not time that we went to 24 going through to the Free in all categories? 20 for Dance and 16 in Pairs is really skimpy compared to the 24 in Singles.
I think that they want 4 groups for each and the number of skaters per group is determined for safety reasons to be men/ladies=6, dance = 5, and pairs =4

Euro Champions! again! i'll celebrate it with the sobriety we italians are famous for

Oh, don't get me started on groups. It should be 4 across the board as well, for safety reasons.

I would actually like to have 6 groups of 4 skaters / partnerships, with 2 resurfacings during the segment. Another resurfacing would give spectators and viewers alike an extra opportunity to get to the toilet, get a drink, get a snack, etc.

I suppose it is not a bad "visti", but I've seen nicer... :p

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

By the way, I heard that some of my kids were doing their part for Normandy Tourism recently too in a Gala. But I can't remember who! :palmf: :slink:

EDIT: Just remembered!
Sofía Val / Asaf Kazimov - 2025 Universiade Gala
Boys but I miss them here!

I hope that Olivia & Tim will get them a spot for next year

WOW! WOW! WOW!!!!!!

What a programme!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Of course, I could say that just about how Phebe looks in that dress.

To be fair, they both looked amazing.

James Bond programmes are always great. But this was something else. That was absoutely brilliant!!!

New leaders. And deservedly so.

:cheer: WELL DONE PHEBE AND JAMES!!! :cheer:

It takes a Brit to do Bond properly

I'm sitting here waiting for somebody to calculate the allocations for next season and post them, to find out how many slots Spain has. Because as well as Sofía and Asaf, SK also have another partnership that have not been together for long, but look very promising. And I would love for both of those partnerships to be able to go to Euros next year (just like they did with the Universiade this year).

Oh, the irony! Adrián Diaz's team doing something that would benefit Sara Hurtado's team!

Detailed scores

Azerbaijan judge had Fear/Gibson winning FD
Dutch judge had Turkilla/Versluis winning FD with Smart/Dieck 2nd
Swiss judge had Lopareva/Brissaud winning FD with Fear/Gibson 2nd
Rest went with Guignard/Fabbri

Italian, Spanish and Dutch judges had Fear/Gibson 5th in the FD

I was kind of surprised how F/G didn't impress, but something was off about them in both performances. Didn't have the confidence or energy they had earlier in the year I don't know. In general, ice dance lacked the excitement of in Kaunas last year . At the best of times it is a confusing discipline with no risk taking, but lacked something this year. In general it's been a great event anyway.

If only the Finns hadn't dropped a level on their spin they might've taken that bronze.
They were my favourites. I thought the Spanish team was great too.

Also like the change of music for the lower placing Czech team. It works much better. I wonder if it something to do with all the copyright issues the previous music was causing?

So they basically tied 2 through 4 in the free dance. That's fascinating
I hope it's a sign of things to come. A bit more jeapordy in the scores (and a wider pool of potential medal winners) over the next Olympic quad would be much more interesting.

Though I don't think this is necessarily bad for Fear and Gibsons's world medal ambitions. This season has been unpredictable.

Its like the judges didn't want to make a choice today. Granted the programs were all fairly well skated but a tie between 2-4 th this was not. Really feel it for the Finns.

On a brighter note, I am happy for Olivia and Tim.
