2025 European Championships Free Dance

This team works very hard every year to be different and original and to add intricate entries and exits to their elements and create new lifts. The insinuation that they just throw money at the judges is a cheap shot and dismissive of the actual work that they do. How the event turns out this year will depend more on execution on the day by three very worthy teams than hypothetical gifts of money.
Thank you. Fed up of people spreading baseless conspiracies to justify petty spite.

Detailed scores

Azerbaijan judge had Fear/Gibson winning FD
Dutch judge had Turkilla/Versluis winning FD with Smart/Dieck 2nd
Swiss judge had Lopareva/Brissaud winning FD with Fear/Gibson 2nd
Rest went with Guignard/Fabbri

Italian, Spanish and Dutch judges had Fear/Gibson 5th in the FD
My mom was with the Dutch judge heh.

I just finished watching the dance.
My fave was the Spanish team. What a beautiful program (and this is coming from someone who hates Dune, but, Nina and this team really skate so well to this music).

I wish Finland got the silver and France bronze.

The British team were boring to me. I’m glad they are starting to fall in the standings.

What a dramaticc finish. The Italians won as expected but certainly did not look all that solid or great but the real battle was the sillver and bronze. Who would have guessed Fear and gibson would barely hold on to bronze! And the French team which won a GP event looked great and maybe get the world bronze??????? The skating level was not overly impressive and I wonder whether we will see the seccond American and Canadian teams possibly steal the bronze over Fear and Gibson or will the French maybe get it. The onlly team guaranteed a medal at worlds is probabllly Chock and Bates. If piper and p au skate clean they have a great shot to regain silverr. But the bronze looks wide open.. France? Fear and Gibson? Lala? I don't think PC dserve it but youu just don't know.

Finally! I had to see the RD in separate pieces but I managed to see and enjoy the FD in one piece.
Very happy for Olivia&Tim, happy for them and their stunning FD and for Spain too, we have again 2 spots at Europeans next year and this result makes me dream with a second spot at Worlds too (and the Olimpics???) :bsplit:.
That was my highlight. Apart from that, a few things to comment.

Guignard&Fabbri - The best, noone is close to them and still, I don´t think I will remember this FD in one or two years.
Lopareva & Brissaud - I'm happy for them, I like this team a lot but, to be honest, I don´t get the FD... but they enjoy it so, good for them!
Fear&Gibson - No spark, I don't know why, they are usually fun to watch. Beyoncé is no disco music (at least for me) what she and her music transmit is empowerment and I didn´t see that in the FD.
Turkkila&Versluis - Love to see them grow, I like the team and I like the idea of new icedance coaching teams in the top positions of the competition.
Czech teams - I love both of them and they are so close I don´t know which one I prefer. Thank God one of them made the top ten, so no one have to choose.
Bekker&Hernández - I'm not a BOND fan, I usually do not appreciate these programs. I like the music though. But I'm Spanish and I still remember pasodoble season :drama:so, if british people in the forum say this is a proper Bond program, I believe them, I give them all the credit. Iloved their Beatles RD and her dress
Ramanauskaite&Kizala - They train in Madrid with Sara&Kirill. They didn´t make big mistakes but something was off. I don´t know whats wrong, it was heartbreaking seeing Paulina putting a smile in her face while keeping the tears at bay.

Apologies, I didn't realise she already had citizenship. I just don't like money ruling sports, although it frequently does these days.
As far as I understand, Spain is not very generous with money for their athletes and money was not the reason for Olivia&Tim to skate for Spain.
The problem was the impossibility of obtaining german nationality for Olivia, while training in Montreal. So, if they wanted to go to the Olympics, the only possibility was Spain. Maybe someone in the know of german laws (or british for the matter) can explain it better. Spain has a special procedure (carta de naturaleza) that allows spanish government to give spanish nationality attending special circunstances: one of those circunstances are athletes like Tim, Olivia, Asaf, Kirill... that need a speed procedure if they want to go to the Olympics.
That was the reason too for the danadians a few years ago, she couldn't get danish nationality training in Canada, so they switched to Canada.

He knows that that is where the synthesised music in the middle belongs, so he is coming prepared.

Why ruin a Beyoncé programme with that rubbish in the middle?

If I have counted back correctly, the laugh that I received from @Ares for this comment was the 20,000th "reaction" I have received since the current system came in!!!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Thank you @Ares!!!

:thank:

Obtaining German citizenship is notoriously difficult. Still not sure how they managed it with Bruno Massot in a relatively short time.

I heard somewhere (not sure where, sorry) that Bruno had to move and live in Germany, to train with Aliona, for a long period of time with no resources at all, while working in the paperwork. I'm not sure how long the period was but, with no income, a few months could feel like centuries... Aliona was german at the time.

Britain is similar to Germany you would have to live here for several years before obtaining citizenship. We have had the likes of George Waddell skate for GB as they can get it easily through having a british parent

If I recall correctly, Bruno had to work very hard to pass the German language test to get citizenship, too.

That's a given. The test itself isn't that hard if you use common sense and have a basic understanding of German history and constitution, but we expect people to speak the language of the country they want to be citizens of.

Of course, those are normal requirements in most countries: a period of residence, knowledge of culture and language and absence of criminal records (that's spanish normal procedure too). I'm just trying to explain the reasons behind a decision that, to be honest, it's not the one I would have chosen but, once the decision is made, I respect it.

^Close to what I was thinking, except with L/B I am apparently going against the grain in that I didn't think much of their RD, but FD was different matter. I love how Evgenia moves so fluidly, like a trout in water. They really know how to sell a techno number.

Fear/Gibson, I feel their below-average day exposed their FD somewhat. Sandwiched between two artistically much more interesting programs, it felt like filler. It's not BAD, of course, but no way that was 2nd best FD yesterday. Fourth, at most. At most.

I loved the Dune, except big Olympic rings on her back were bit distracting. Same goes for Allison's fluffy skirt in Lithuanian gothic number.

I'm sitting here waiting for somebody to calculate the allocations for next season and post them, to find out how many slots Spain has.
With only one team, you don't have to wait for anyone to calculate anything - Top 2 for 3 spots, top 10 for 2.

Either way, here are the other spots for next season as well:
3 spots: FRA, FIN
2 spots: ITA, GBR, ESP, LTU, GEO, CZE

Phew! I dodged a bullet there. I didn't want to commit myself to celebrating because I couldn't remember if it was Top 3 for 3 slots or Top 5. And it turns out it was neither!

Thank you for setting me straight.

:thank:

YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Two slots for Spain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Absolutely delighted for Sofía and Asaf!!! And for Sara, Kirill and Ksenia!!!

And all being well, maybe next year the two partnerships could get a third for Philomène and Raúl!

Hopefully Olivia and Tim can get an extra slot or two at Worlds too...

I was there at the rink yesterday - my impressions of the top 5 placed teams (from someone who doesn't know how to score Ice Dance). It's interesting that the scores for the top five teams' free dances are so close - 5 points between 1st and 5th:
- S/D - fantastic, mesmerising programme - I probably would have scored this a little higher.
- T/V - really well executed, brilliantly detailed, but seemed less sharp than at the GP Finland -
- L/B - very original, really enjoyable, but they seemed a tiny bit cautious
- F/G - very well executed, flowed very well
- G/F - brilliantly executed, although I'm sure I spotted a slight bobble from Marco at one point - I'm not sure I would have placed this first. I don't think this programme suits them at all except for an exhibition piece.

I hope that F/G use the drop in their result to totally rethink their strategy of sticking to the same style of programmes. I think it would be very good for them to try some new styles/music choices/moods and extend their range - maybe even get some guidance from a different coaching team. They are a very hard-working, professional team, so I have every faith that this would work for them.
