2025 Four Continents Free Dance

Oh wow I didn't expect LaLa to get 118 in the FD ahead of CPon. I thought they're going to be lower in the FD but still goes first overall.

Oh well, anyhow I'm happy they managed to stay on the podium despite the mistake
They’ve outscored Christina and Anthony by quite a substantial margin all season long and have been ahead of them their whole careers actually. Their FD scores all season have been competitive with Lilah and Lewis and in the ballpark with Charlene and Marco at some events. They would have scored above 122 in the FD without the mistake. A shame for the fluke, but I’m glad they retained the bronze.

Please... either do something woth the hole or take off the jacket :rolleye:
LOL, this critique from some has been circulating since they debuted this program at Skate Canada in late October. We are now deep into the month of February and he is still wearing the jacket, so I wouldn’t hold my breath on a costume change. Gilles and Poirier’s trademark is to be different and off center from every other team and I quite like the jacket; he certainly has the body-ody-ody to pull anything off (and I intended the double entendre there).

It could easily have gone the other way around if the panel was a bit more US biased, these things you can never know. I´m not complaining though, I like to see judging like this :nana::nana:
Look at the RD score here for Chock and Bates with the shaky performance they delivered and the fact that they have won 2 World titles, both with flawed FD programs. The commentator of this event was egregiously biased in favor of Chock and Bates through the entire broadcast of the RD and the FD. I don’t know how anyone can claim that the panel isn’t US biased in every ice dance event.

Both C/B and P/P have outstanding technical skills. I think it came down to the judges finally acknowledging that Piper and Paul have a more engaging style on the ice. I want to watch P/P's performances again and again.
CB outstanding technicians???? I doubt that

The commentator has a crush on Madison Chock that's been embarrassingly obvious throughout the years.

I haven't watched the full competition yet, just got up and watched Piper and Paul win! Yay! Looks like it came down to levels, specifically on the one foot turns. PCS actually went in Piper and Paul's favour by a hair.

Piper's new dress is spectacular — so much more tango and sophisticated. Love it. This program is really looking great. I thought they looked a bit freer with it at nationals, and hope they can recapture that for worlds. The one thing in particular that I would change is the choreographic lift to the "seasick" lyric at the beginning. Too literal, in my opinion. But they're scoring well on that element, so I don't expect them to. Oh well, personal preference.

Speaking of personal preference, my gripe with Chock/Bates's FD this year is that they took a jazz piece (which I love) and made an utterly conventional program to it. I find it boring.

And I beg to differ with the commentator that Chock/Bates's program is somehow more intricate. Making something look effortless the way Piper and Paul do is really, really hard, especially with all of their intricate choreography and footwork in hold.

Like I said in the RD thread, though, I've been burned by politics way too many times in ice dance not to think that this win for Piper and Paul (though in my opinion more than well deserved) is their consolation prize for when the judges and tech panel hand Chock/Bates the gold at worlds (in the U.S.) on a silver platter, and suddenly everyone else is a distant also-ran.

But for now, I will enjoy this win for the sublime Gilles/Poirier!

It's the gin.
i had four beers over the night... Non-alcoholic beers LOL no gin this time... i am always doing a dry winter/spring after the holidays and until there is no more snow around... considering we have just had nearly 3 feet of snow last week, i won;t be having gin until may LOL

Gosh... i couldn't have written this any better. I agree on all counts. The one element that for me should deserve consideration is the one foot. I love it as it starts asymmetrically and comes together after a while but it seems that judges do not like it... It's the one spot where I feel they could grab more points... like they did by simplifying their twizzles that were interrupted for too long in the RD.

I also agree very much about the intricacy of steps and turns in close holds It's nice to see some real dancing.

Finally : on Take five... yup... the music is there (I love it too) and yet, unlike when some others have used it, I cannot feel the 5 beat pulse when watching their movements.. it's like they are skating to a completely normal 4/4 piece yet, the metrics are not normal here... So that makes me dizzy in the worst way. I haven't seen this live and sometimes, it's easier for me to get into the pulse and rhythm live (small details that can be seen from the rink) so I will give them a pass but i wouldn't call it excellent at this point.

He's based in the States so he's likely interviewing people he knows. Bradie Tennell used to skate at the rink he works at. Last year at Euros he spoke to Benoit Richaud who also spent time working at the same rink.
you know, that is fair but just not great "journalism" talking to people you know does just one thing... showing that you know these people ;)
if he varied his interviews, it would be much more interesting, or if he made interviews that are relevant to what is actually going on. I want to hear much more from Kim, who won the AWG and is ahead of the pack here than about anyone else in the women's division... That's just one example.... To me, it looks like American broadcaster are paying him/hired him... that I am watching NBC or another American channel.. yet this is the ISU feed.. this is where it becomes a problem. If I watch Johnny and Tara I know what to expect, just the same way as when CBC was putting Kurt Browning and Carol Lane up for commentating. But this is an international feed so it should cater to a larger audience.

Wow!! Paul & Piper did it!!! Gold for Canada 🇨🇦
(I kinda prefer Chock and Bates on this free dance, but, I really wanted the Canadians to win). These two teams will battle for gold at Boston.

I’m kind of sad with LaLa. Zachary looked so defeated in the kiss n cry. Zachary skated that program so well. I’m kind of nervous to see where they place LaLa at Worlds. It can be anywhere from 4th to 7th.

I really hope Chris isn’t the commentator for Worlds ice dance. Im glad Piper and Paul won not only because I love them but it’s a bit boring with C/B winning all the time and while I think they are fabulous, they are not P/C level to be dominating all the time.
Chock and Bates are good and I know in part it is timing but it almost seems "unfair" that they have titles equivalent to Davis and White, Virtue and Moir/ PC or even Torvill and Dean, Bestmianova and Bukin Klimova and Ponamarenko. They ae good but and the word isn't necesarilly fair but they to me are not as outstanding as these other pairs yet their record and scores which I believe are unairly hyped are overated. I mean yes they rretired but Hubbell and Donahoe or the Russians may verry well had titles had they skated But yes, it is who is left and even with mistakes at two worlds they seem to get the beffit. I have a eeling they will take gold in Bostton. Italy, Britain, France and LaLa ae no match. Pipper and Paul maybe if they make enough errors but P squared had momentum already twice and did not win.

I am happy P squared won gold here but I rather see it at worlds Unfortunately I don't think that well happen in Boston. Piper and Paul looked real good heading into two worlds and both ended in no gold; I don't think this will change in Boston. They are a good dance team. But I have trouble for lack of words seeing the number off world titles and it looks like an OGM to say Viirtue and Moir; Davis and White, and teams like Torvill and Dean, Bestmianova and Bukin, Klimova and Ponamarenk not to mention things might have beendiffferrent if Hubbell and Donahoe had continuued or the Russians. I know it is who is at the event but still they could have lost the title in the last to worldswith their errors. This event while great for Lala to win a medal i think was more encouraging to CP who were closer in the RD thann I thought they would be withLala and almost beat LaLa in the FD. So LaLa instead off getting closer to the world podium is movnig down if anything. On a side not good on IAM and Marie France's sttable for not having huge ffights with so mmany top teams.
