2025 Skate Canada Pairs Short Program

A little bit critical not intentionally just as the observation the Germans have a very strong back and very clean and in the very pretty positions unfortunately the Japanese don't have this.

Deanna and Maxime feels more expressive, Minerva and Nikita looks more technical I feel
I am really sad. I want Deanna and Max to win an olympic medal. In my dreams I thought andhoped they could do more difficult tricks (jumps especially with her being a singles skater but I appreciate that was almost 25 years ago). Still all these problems. And I really like their programs this year. If they could skate freely with reckless abandon. I dreamed but it is too late now they would consistently land the throw triple axel. But mind you know pairs team ever was very good or consistent at it. They have good jumps, twists and usually a difficult death spiral. They aren't out but I just think a team like them should be able to skate with errors and really sell the program and get really good pcs but they aren't geting super pcs even when they are clean. I really hope something can be done. They need to skate clean with power, zest and conviction. It has been over a year now since they really have done that. They still aren't bad and if they get second here I belive they will be in the Grand Prix final. But I like them over the Germans; the Germans are just skating better but the p rograms and psosiblity come on DM do it! Not really enamoured with any other teams but those two. curious if Lia and Trennt can holdo n to brone.

This was an amazing lift from Ellie and Danny, beautiful skating overall, but they continue to struggle badly with throw jumps which is a real shame.
I wonder how Ellie's throws can be fixed. I know it's a team effort- is he throwing her to hard? She just seems to panic in the air and is not able to land on one foot. I wonder if having her daily watch videoes of beautifully landed throws would help create an image of success. Their performance is otherwise so good. Their flow and lifts are the best, imo.

Honestly, their first season, I did think he was throwing her too hard.. but then, not so much anymore. How many seasons have they been skating together ? With such an experience thrower, maybe it's just something that will not get fixed. It happens. What Ellie did today was save a fall... which means that are still able to contend for the podium. But to be a top class team, they will not be able to rely only of their gorgeous lifts. The jumps are also often under-rotated. I remember an event where all 4 "dismount" elements were missed. I am not too invested in this team which helps me because otherwise, I'd be stressed out and would start to lose enthusiasm. Again, it's unfortunate because they do so many things so well.

I liked Minerva and Nikita's short programs last year and the year before better than this year's, but it may well grow over the course of the season, certainly. Really love Carmina Burana for Deanna and Max.

I asked the same question in the Replay Lounge before I saw your post. It looks to my untrained eye like they go up more than out with her trajectory. I assume they've tried different timings, strength/stability training, etc, but I don't know. I just want to see them nail those throws!

My biggest take aways yesterday from competition were: F/M yes, finally, the skate they are capable of! The Polish duo were charming after the skate and won my heart by picking up my little toy. 😅 H/V was the only moment yesterday I had chills of nerves, because I really wanted them to skate clean after F/M did! I was very happy they skated clean under pressure. Gold is probably too much to hope for, but that lead should help them if they make mistakes in the free. They look so aesthetically pleasing on ice!

So happy to see three very healthy, happy and delightful Canadian pair teams skating and placing well here after a summer of struggle and injuries. I have missed them and have to admit I was a little scared about the Pairs event at Canadian Nationals. So glad to see nearly everyone back and rounding into form.

Indeed, in the throw he looked closer to a fall than she did. Curious.
Kirsten mentioned they'd had a "hectic off-season" - maybe their training/equilibrium has been affected. They looked a little off at Nebelhorn, too. Hopefully, they'll come back strong in the free.

The short program used to be called “compulsory” and even today it reminds us that this part is not a request show, but a kind of test in which the couple must present eight specific skating elements within a prescribed time. If the man and woman do not finish their short program within the time limit, there are serious deductions. For this reason alone, speed is of the essence, and there is naturally no time for an extensive tango dance. Apart from that, ice skates, throws, and death spirals have very little to do with classic tango on the dance floor, don't they? Just as little as it is possible for S-D/D to elicit a medieval feeling from the 11th century from “Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi”... (at least, I didn't feel or notice anything of the sort). At least H/V still had a few seconds left to perform something like tango. They timed it perfectly for my taste, especially since the music was composed specifically for figure skating – now that's what I call innovative! (In contrast, I felt that the other pairs fell far short, apart from the Swiss, who, despite their obvious qualities, still seem to have a long way to go before the judges “graciously hear them out”).

Incidentally, the “Commonwealth Connection” of Great Britain, Canada, and especially Australia gave H/V the lowest scores by far.

I'm really enjoying the first group here! (watching on replay) I especially love the upbeat music choices (i.e. Michael Jackson, Florence and the Machine) and also a bit of interesting choreo even in the younger/newer pairs. YAY! (spoken too soon - right before Aliona's music LOL!)

Nobody but nobody PRESENTS during lifts like Deanna! You GO GIRL! Very happy for them having a strong skate.

Also really impressed with Periera / Michaud. Where did she come from? Still catching up on all that has changed over the last few seasons.

Well.. that's the first time I read this on this forum. It is an interesting opinion which I don't share. I don't think there is such of a Commonwealth alliance within the judging skating world... Often, Piper and Paul, though they even have a British coaching team, are not favoured at all by the British judges. I wonder how the French Canadian skaters like Paul and Max think about that, being apparently favoured by the Commonwealth ;)

In any case, thanks for the comment. It cracked me up and I will keep looking at judging panels to see if there is really a Commonwealth connection.
