I thought samodelikina was underscored too.It was a good day for ladies .. it's shame some scores being so overscore for some skaters (specially for the americans) ... and underscore for others like samodelikina and the japanese ladies
I was in the arena and completely agree with the standings. There is an element when seeing a performance live that you just don’t get when watching on a screen. It’s a performance quality that I can only describe as connection with the audience, the music and the performance. Alysa had it in spades. Her joy radiated up to the rafters. She definitely deserves to be in first place. Mone was able to dance her way through Donna Summer’s iconic song and the crowd was 100% with her. These qualities are seen and felt by the judges as well. It can’t be ignored. Wakaba was wonderful and strong, but not quite at the level as the other two. It’s intangible, but so important.

Whose back is being scratched? The Japanese don’t need it. So, who benefits from the US judges in this tit for tat?One judge doesn’t make that happen its more of a you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours
Wakaba got higher tech, lower PCS.What? Ahead of Wakaba? Are you freaking serious??
I’m aware, but I don’t agree with what the judges see in Isabeau. When I watch Levito, I see a slow skater with laboured, cheated jumps. She’s the quintessential pretty princess type, which honestly, I’m not a fan of. I gravitate more toward the Sakamoto/Glenn/Higuchi powerful warrior skaters. Isabeau should not be beating Wakaba in skating skills or performance; maybe I will give her choreography. I feel Isabeau has always been overscored and Wakaba has always been underscored.Wakaba got higher tech, lower PCS.
I thought it should have been an underrotation, but for sure a q at a minimum. In fact, I question the competency and impartiality of the tech panel to not give this at least a q, and for the judges to give the combo mainly 2's and 3's.
Isabeau combo jump was a Q on the 3T, very generous score for her today ...
What you are not seeing is that personality and radiance, no matter how abundant, do not translate to skating skills or jumping techniques. This is a figure skating competition, not a beauty pageant.I was in the arena and completely agree with the standings. I don't think it's fair to say Mone has a flutz like Isabeau. I watched it again, and that lutz looks fine to me.Honestly confused by a lot of these comments. Yes, Isabeau and , specifically, Alyssa ( because that combo was definitely q) had some technical calls ignored. But, so did the Japanese skaters. Mone has a flutz like Isabeau. Isabeau's flutz was called, her combo wasn't. Mone's flutz wasn't called her combo was. Fair enough.
The Slovakian Judge (#2) was especially stingy with the composition and performance components:What you are not seeing is that personality and radiance, no matter how abundant, do not translate to skating skills or jumping techniques.
I once saw that very thing happen in a major competition some years ago. There was quite literally a gaping hole at one end of the ice that could not be repaired in time for the competition. Each skater was given the option of having that section of the ice cordoned off with traffic cones, or to work around it as best they could all bare-iced.Had there been a gaping hole in the ice that all the skaters were hitting or falling into...
Well, we agree about Mone and Kaori.Nina Pinzarrone was my favorite, her program was mesmerizing and the most artistic in my book.
Isabeau is the queen of attention to detail. From costume to expression to choreography, everything is perfected. Mone Chiba has also one of the best choreographed programs and it worked so well with the audience!
I didn't feel Kaori's program at allShe seemed way too focused.
After the warmup, I wasnt shocked at all. Something is wrong. I look at a skaters FACE and body language. I have a nickel that says she is sick or injured.Chaeyeon is so stable usually, I am always surprised when she makes a mistake on a jump. Shame it had to happen today after her great season..
And she was placed all the way down at 11th, pretty shocking.
Yes, and as a human she can get ill, or injured, or have something really bad going on in one's personal life....When there is a sudden change, there is usually a reason. I feel for her. Anyone can make a mistake. But warm ups can tell a story as can people's body language and expression.Ahhh she has been so solid all season
And this just proves every skater is human...
Was that Zoe in the kiss and cry?
