huge jump in tickets gone this week. I'm guessing a lot of fans from japan (& elsewhere but knowing that japanese travel most) saw the team abd bought. (I'm going to be looking elsewhere now b/c the entire section i was looking in a week ago is no longer available at all)

Hey everyone!
Just checking in to see who is attending? Back in 2016 we had a pretty large GoldenSkate contingency! In 2016 I attended all events, but this time around I’m just able to make it to 3 events— women’s free, dance free, and men’s free. Myself and two of my friends are travelling from Newfoundland to attend and hopefully watch Gilles/Poirier become World Champions!!! 🥹🤞🏼🥰
I hope you all have a great time! Looking forward to the nationals season and the anticipation of finding out who will be skating in Boston!🩷

Team Canada

Men - TBD
Women - Madeline Schizas
Pairs - Kelly Ann Laurin / Loucas Ethier; Lia Pereira / Trennt Michaud; Deanna Stellato-Dudek / Maxime Deschamps
Ice Dance - Alicia Fabbri / Paul Ayer; Piper Gilles / Paul Poirier; Marjorie Lajoie / Zachary Lagha

Hi guys! I'm attending this year. It'd be great to schedule a lunch and a happy hour in between the day and evening session on a couple of days. Let me know who's in!

just curious if anyone else here is volunteering? wondering if anyone has gotten their shifts yet, they said mid January but we are inching closer to the end of January.

I haven't been paying attention to TES minimums so far this season, but seeing that a couple of my kids are not in the entries for the European Championships has brought them to the front of my mind.

I am assuming the fact that their countries are not sending anybody to Euros is because none of their skaters have the minimums. So, I am now trying to work out how much more my kids need to get in each segment to be able to go to the World Championships.

What is the minimum TES for the SP and the FS in Senior Ladies at Worlds this season? Skating Scores and Wikipedia used to have them on their pages, but I can't find them there, or anywhere else for that matter.

Last season, the minimums were 32 for the SP, and 53 for the FS. Working from past experience, I'm guessing they have gone up this season. In which case, both of the girls I am wondering about have little hope, as the highest TES they currently have for each segment is a good bit lower than what was required even last season.

But, I am trying to be optimistic, so I am still curious to know what they would need to get at any events between now and the deadline. One of the skaters in question is actually from the host city, so I would love to see her get to compete on the biggest stage in familiar surroundings in front of her friends and family!

And apologies in advance if I do not respond to any replies as quickly as I normally do. We have a red weather warning at the moment due to Storm Éowyn coming through, and the lights have already flickered a couple of times. So, I would not be surprised if we lose power.

Thank you

Thanks. At least that's part of the way there.

But what the minimums for the individual segments? It's useful to know how far off they are in each.

Minimums for individual segments is like the post above. For women it´s 90 TES in total, men 104, pairs 88 and and dance 94. It´s a total combined now, so it doesn´t matter if you have 30 in TES from SP as best, as long you have 90-30 = more then 60 in TES from a FS in women. This way you could advantage if you tend to have a higher SP TES or higher FS TES then in the old system. As en example, many women struggled with getting the 32 in SP, but had a higher TES in the FS than the 53 you needed.

Risa Gomez is one of the women that benefited from this rule. After last seasons she had lost them again because she needed to retain her 32 in TES in the SP. It was annoying because she got 31.85 at Worlds, and to achieve this she would have to have a flawless and clean SP in the upcoming season. In the FS she was way above the 53 that was required, she was almost 10 points above the needed with 62.08 from Nordics last season. But it didn´t matter in the old system, until the changed it and her total became 93.93, so she didn´t need to go into the new season chasing for the minimums again. However, they have raised the total with 5 points, and for those who were barely able to get past the 32 and 53 in SP and FS, it´s a challenge to try to add another 5 points in TES. One example is Josefin Taljegård, who had the battle last season with getting the 32 she needed for Worlds. At last she did it just in time before Worlds, and not only that, at Worlds she proved she was worthy passing that 32 mark in the SP in a competition where a lot of women weren´t able to. So she had the mins going out of the season, but lost them during off season. Now she is a total 2 points off, and needs to get a TES of 35.86 in the SP or 56.38 TES in the FS to get them. Honestly her best shot is the FS, without a triple triple it would be almost impossible to reach a higher TES in the SP. Hopefully she can make it at Euros or the next competitions, but it´s not as easy getting past 56 points in the FS when jumps isn´t your strongest feature. And the start on the season has been a bit rocky for her, her best TES in the FS so far has been only 47.87 at Swedish Nationals. She has been training in the US for the last couple of weeks though so fingers crossed it would improve her TES.

I would recommend using Skatingscores.com and search up the skaters you are wondering about. It´s very easy way to check, I use it all the time. He sets up how close they have gotten in minimums for both WC, EC/4CC and JrWorlds at the skaters page, and how far off they are by points. As well there is a new feature where you can actually see their total combined scores from the last competitions. That is just interesting to watch, because mostly people don´t get the TES they need in one competition, so it´s a good thing the combined best TES score for SP and FS can be from different competitions.

ISU also has a page also where there is a list over skaters with the minimum scores, but it doesn´t tell how far off it is.

Hang on. So, are you saying that it doesn't actually matter any more what you get in each segment?

That's not right. By all means have a combined minimum as a get out of jail free card for those that get a massive TES in one segment and a really small TES in the other. But it should still be done primarily by the TES in each segment. So that they know where exactly they need to improve.

It was actually Skating Scores that I was looking at. And that was why I was getting so confused, because in the SP column it was saying that Anna-Flora needed 52.82, and in the FS column it said she needed 66.93. And I was thinking "who on Earth scores 50-something TES in the SP?!" 😲

And then I checked for Marilena, and it said she needed 46.39 in the SP, and 62.97 in the FS. Which is when I realised that the numbers I was looking at were not the actual TES minimum, but were what the skater needed to improve their TES by just to get to the minimum. :dbana:

I know the ISU has been increasing minimums because of what the top skaters have been scoring, and that it was getting more and more difficult for lower ranked skaters to meet them. But these numbers that Skating Scores were quoting seemed far too unrealistic for even the ISU to ask for. Which is why I decided to ask here.

Methinks that Skating Scores needs to re-design their TES tables. Because if I am getting well and truly confused by them, then I am sure other visitors that used the site under the previous system are too.
