Good skate by Dias, he takes his ballet lessons seriously. A couple of technical mistakes though, df on the Axel and a popped Lutz. But I like his flowy style.

I know it is always cruel, but it seems crueller when it is so few that don't get through.

If it was up to me, I would do away with cut offs completely and have it so that everybody does their Free Skate. It takes a lot of money and effort for these skaters to go to these events. They should get to do both their programmes.

We were at the wrong end of the ice, and predatory flower gatherers were sweeping them up before the skaters even finished their bows. But we did see one (with friends) in a see-through plastic bag on top of a skater's suitcase. So one at least made it to the hotel.

Predatory flower gatherers annoy me.

What do you both mean by "predatory flower gatherers"? I thought they're just there to pick up the gifts faster and give them to the skater afterwards?

It's great for the skaters when they do it in juniors but leads to endless marathon events. There are pros and cons.

I really need to do some digging to find out for definite if that is actually my kid Aiza Mambekova that has been sitting with all the Kazakh skaters. It certainly looks like her.

They do give them to the skater afterwards. But they don't actually need to pick them up before the skater finishes with their bows.

We saw a funny confrontation between Nic Nadeau and a flower girl at Skate Canada in Kelowna. He managed to make her hand over one of the gifts so he could take it into the Kiss and Cry, by channeling Babs.

It's Lap Kan Lincoln YUEN (HKG), who turned 30 last Friday.

And he is still competing himself. He finished 7th in the Santa Claus Cup in November, having been 3rd in the SP.

Having two extra skaters in the free program would add over 40 minutes to the competition time, by the time you add in an ice resurface, a warm-up, and the time for each skater.

I see, but maybe sometimes they just need to do it as fast as possible? Especially if there are many many gifts thrown on the ice. I imagine the next skater would want to do their pre-program warmup in clear ice as soon as possible...
