Really interesting to see how the men's step sequences are positioned to play to the judge's side of the arena.

Having two extra skaters in the free program would add over 40 minutes to the competition time, by the time you add in an ice resurface, a warm-up, and the time for each skater.

So?

All the better - an extra resurfacing means an extra chance to have a toilet break or get a snack during the competition!

The more the merrier, I say!

I see, but maybe sometimes they just need to do it as fast as possible? Especially if there are many many gifts thrown on the ice. I imagine the next skater would want to do their pre-program warmup in clear ice as soon as possible...

It doesn't take them all that long (unless it's an Hanyu poohvalanche), and having them buzzing around takes away from the skater's moment as they are doing their bows.

I'm reminded of the time there was a Challenger Series event somewhere in Eastern Europe that had 50 women competing. What's more, they all got to skate their free programs as well. The judges must have been living on coffee and chocolate to cope!

Skating to "Devil May Cry" by Sofiane Pamart. I'm still trying to decide whether I liked it. I should like it. But it got a bit industrial at times.

I did like the skating, though.

Right enough, it would be tough going on the officials, having to keep their concentration and consistency over such a long period of time.

They grab them before the skater ever sees them.
