Shocking. Politics. Judging scanda ls. I think it is riveting we have two teams erlatically in the battle for Gold. Forget the controversy regarding Gullaume and Gabi or Laurent and Nik. Though that adds to the drama. There are two teams that are very good. I hae to admit Chock and Bates FS program isn't has "polished" as some of their past. Maybe it seems they are a bit tired and ready to move on. FB / C really ahve to come together so quick and are smooth. CB always gets th ejob done so it is close. Supporting the case for he brits is all year long though Piper and Paul have had low scores. I Ashley Wagner and others have independently said no reason for the lower scores. They shoul d have had more points in the SP. I agree they had a major flaw Paul not really presenting it well (SP) and the long may be a big stale and the dress not that great - does not register and maybe too literal. There are only 3 medals. I hope the politics stop. I know we want to base it upon the performance of the day/time but I am hoping after all the years of being at or near the top Chock and Bates and Piper and Paul are properly rewarded. I understand the lure of olympic glory and people wanting so much - never enough like that song - so it is natural athletes like Gullaume want another gold or Chock and Bates want an individual medal or skaters like Deanna want to compete at th eolympics and likewise lindsey Vonn iit is a me first type attitude. I guess we could have an IAM sweep.

from the 4 new judges entering, 3 are IAM team "linked" judges... So it could indeed mean a IAM sweep if the judges who are not "IAM" are taken out.

Gosh... I feel terrible about this.. I have never done that before..... Does it mean that my beloved sport is so corrupt that even an outsider fan like me feels it that deeply ? Am I crazy ?

Ichat has to wonder why she woke up at 3 am just to face bitterness and resignation, but here she is somehow. I was so pissed about the judging yesterday that I spent nearly the whole day trying to not fume out my anger to my non-fs watching family and friends, let's see if I can avoid doing the same this time

The difference here is that the NON IAM judge before, Germany put Piper and Paul in first place if I recall... and I doubt that Italian judge will favour Piper and Paul

PS. Sorry for beating you to this. I appreciate how you keep us informed all the time... I was just manifesting so hard for Russell to be out... I have been refreshing the ISU site since 1245...

 

[Cutting the ice]

We do not want judging controversy being the headline in the media. The Olympics has done a lot of damage to our sport in the last 2 decades. When the public thinks of figure skating, they think of sketchy judging or outright controversies, doping, political favouritism. We need only positive stories. Yyes close competitions are perfect and we have a couple now but the winner must clearly deserve the win.

E.g., From Canada - Deanna's amazing story, Piper's survival of cancer, Maddie's request for a deadline extension and her prof's response, Stephen's amazing team competition. Lots from other countries too. These are all good stories for the public to read and form a positive opinion about the sport and the athletes.

But this ice dance judging controversy - I really hope that the media leave it alone. It isn't easy to explain to the public (I watched a really weird video last night on the CBC trying to explain it and failing iMO) and it will harm our sport - which is already beaten and bruised. Please, no big controversies in the next week!

I'm very sorry to say that the controversies are already happening, articles regarding the judging of the men's SP are coming out not just Korean media but from foreign media as well, and it seems that CBC has already reported on the RD judging. I truly, truly want the remainder of the games to pass without more media reports re: judging but I have watched FS for too long to be optimistic
