Well it is their first season together. Frankly I am amazed they work together even this well.

However, cynic in me questions, if all these Cizeron fans really thought Laurence as the best female ice dancer in the world when she was paired with Sorensen? Did they look at her and thought "Oh, if only we had her skating with Guillaume instead..."

Yeah, I don't think so.

And don't take it so that she is bad, but I just find that quite amusing.
Actually, the sentiment that she was SO MUCH better than her partner was discussed a lot over the previous quads.

Paso Doble does not adapt well to gliding. Here's a good paso.

Or so they say. The men were far more competitive right now and it's been that way for a while. I say this as someone who only watched the ladies when I first started.
I agree, men's field is more interesting and overall higher quality at this time, and Malinin is the most talked about skater. Maybe casuals are still more likely to tune in to watch women out of habit, who knows.

Maddie and Evan win the majority of judges. The French can thank their judge who doubled down with his BS from the RD. Scored C/B Eight Points less than his team. Criminal.

😳

Can someone break this down a little more? If the French judge had scored C/B, say, only four points (or some other value) less than the French team, what would the result have been then?

On PCS, if you exclude both French and US judge the result would be (if I had my maths correct)
58.5 for FB/C (vs 58.58 they got)
57.8 for C/B (vs 57.92)

If you exclude just the French judge, the gap is down to 0.4 (58.4 to 58)

Remember that lowest and higher mark of the panel is already thrown out.

O

And back in the 80s & 90s while all of the events were super compelling, the women were the headlining act.
To be honest, I think all the disciplines are pretty exciting. It was a pretty good men's SP. All the men have different styles but pairs has also improved so much over the quad the age increase has improved the variety of women's skating as well. All the top women have their own style, not the same busy, musically meaningless choreo that is dominated the previous quad.

Well, the Italian team messed up their twizzle, and C/P also had a stumble and balance check, so it's not like they were pristine or beyond deduction on the components. Ice dance usually has not many visible errors, so I do think that when it does happen a team needs to be hammered, otherwise what's the point.

Exactly. That's why I posted about Chock's visible error with her right foot still moving forward not once, but twice in her ending pose after the music had already stopped. That was in the RD. She should be glad no one did anything about it. I mainly watch men's singles and a man gets hit with a deduction for doing things like that after the music stops. I wasn't the only person around here who noticed it in their RD. I found it hard to believe ID would have dramatically different rules about that sort of thing and it turns out it does not. It isn't just a singles rule. Maybe ID is so crazy someone has to run a stopwatch on the feet and they get a "grace period."

It may have changed with Ilia Malinin who changed the sport.

People aren't really that upset about PCS. It's the GOE that feels really off. Regardless, it is what it is. Ice dance is often determined before the skating even occurs. I enjoyed most of this competition including P/P, the Italians , C/B, and S/D. Z/K's program isn't my favorite but they are very well trained. A lot to like about this competition.

I really don't know how ISU could remove country bias from any of the judges...it's always THERE.
It’s not just that, I, for example prefer basic skating of Japanese and Canada. Russian trained crossovers are abhorrent to me, visually one will also be “better” to me.

So if I’m making skating skills and the skaters are more or less the same I’m given 9.5 to one and 9.25 to the other. Since that’s just what I feel is better quality.

I dunno, though. On one hand it would have been interesting to see the men after a bit more rest. but I can see those guys stressing out to the max after the drama of the team event. Sometimes the dread is way worse than the actual act.
I am actually a fan of the team event now but I do wonder if it should be last instead of first. What a head game for those new Olympians and for it to get started so lightning fast. I bet the organizers thought it would be a lower pressure event but it's actually opposite of that the way it's designed and timed.

I do believe that the very first team event screwed up Julia. On the other had, some were saying the Ilia for example benefitted from the team event because it allowed him to get past jitters.

Ultimately these athletes are there for individual medals. The team medal is the icing on the cake but they will never value it as much as an individual medal. I don't think it should be allowed to distract from their process or be the driver of their schedule.

Wuzrobbed.

Guillaume and Lolo are NOT some otherworldly masters of the blade compared to Madi and Evan.
And certainly not in this skate, which is all that counts.😏

But hey, ice dance and all that. I am going to go read more encomia from Latin America on Donovan advancing to feel good..
