When the medalists retired after 2014 Sochi, Madi & Evan were expected to lead in 2015. The arrival of Papadakis/Cizeron blew up that narrative and it took Madi & Evan a long time to hit the podium again. Here we are again with Madi & Evan as the leading team and guess who comes back to shake up the order again.

Will history repeat again or will we see a different ending?
It seems a hard twist of fate for a team that waited years for this moment. Life doesn’t come with guarantees so we will see what the skaters a the fates determine.

I wouldn’t say C/B were expected to lead in 2015. W/P and the Shibutanis were also very good at that time. What really rocked the boat was V/M returning in the 2017 season for a 3rd run at the Olympics. I highly doubt Guillaume would be back if he had been able to win Olympic gold in 2018 and 2022, if he would have even stuck around after winning gold in 2018.

This RD was better than the one they had at Europeans in terms of the skating, they had much better edges and overall looked sharper here. I do find them to be missing a connection with each other, they do a great job projecting out but it feels like two separate people on the ice and they sometimes skate quite far apart.
