My only wish is for Piper and Paul to medal. If the judges push for the Discobrits in the free, I'm going to have an aneurism.

I was not impressed with C/B, their twizzles were slow and in terms of blades on ice I'd have them behind L/B.

FB/S might be technically very good, but I still think Madonna is too cheap for them. Granted, they rock their outfits.

As usual I also loved L/B and S/M. Thought L/B were underscored a bit.

Z/K are fast and sharp, but to me their dance feels like a performance and not like they embody the 'soul' part of the music. Too whitebread for me.

Anyway, go Piper and Paul!

Looking at the protocols was interesting. Kudos to GP for getting good levels after the controversy at Skate Canada and Finlandia. Judges were mostly consistent with marks (also good news) except for the British judge who scored them on components 8.75/8.75/8.75. Of the rest of the judges, only one component score was < 9 and 25 were 9 or greater. So a sore thumb! I didn’t do a detailed comparison of goe but his was also lowest.

I had to google the name because I didn’t know country and the first post that came up was an analysis of his bias against GP and GF when they compete against FG. So not new behaviour. While there is always some level of country bias towards your own skaters, judges with anti biases should be fined along with some ethics training or at least relegated to judging only B competitions. Certainly not an isu championship.

So I am happy that GP is in third. I thought FBC were sharper and faster than CB today and that CB’s twizzles were comparatively slower (smaller?) than other teams so I think the judges got it right today. The free dance is going to be interesting. Nobody can put a foot wrong in the fight for bronze. Or the fight for gold.

Again, check out judge 3 from Great Britain giving Piper and Paul only a +2 for their twizzles when every other judge gave them +4/+3. He also only gave them +1 for their pattern step when every other judge gave them +3-+5. He’s also the only judge who gave them all PCS in the 8s. Ban this cheater already!
Ha ha. Just read this after my post. Great 😌 bservations!

It might sound stupid, but my nervous system is probably not cut anymore for Live skating as long as I'm attached to someone, hence I knew I'd just be physically ill being there in person.
Plus something broke inside me after GPF and I better not carry my negativity around, especially about ID.

I agree with your assessment but I do beliee ZK who are good are being "pushed" by the US federation as they are the heir apparents and mayy be the top US team come worlds especially if CB win gold. I honestly do nothtink it was fear to put the the first two teams so far ahead and then have the next6 or 7 teams so close. Piper and Paul earned higher marks and should have a bigger lead. I might even have the Italians in 4th. I wrote a while ago that omeone is going to end out of the top ten or a few teams that are good because everyone is so good (not great). So I am not surprised about CP in 11th. In fact I said they were vulnerable since USFS was pushing ZK but where would you put them. A team thought to be a bronze possiby is in 10th.LaLa is only 9th. I am cautiously hopeful Canada gts third - their fs is wonderful I just wish judgs remember it is not a popularity contest or entertainment it is a competition. If it were an exhibition then Fear and Gibson would probably be first. FB/C are in first and deserved but none of these RD are all that wonderful. CB I thought did well considering they did th eteam event FD unlike the French. I honestly was not a fan of the RD by Piper and Paul but compared to the other dribble it ws good. I do think Paul needed to vamp it up more. I really hope they win bronze and continue skating to worlds but I fear thet they have been beaten up so much by the judging thye might just survivive here. (olympics) The CZE look interesting for the futre.

I actually found the event to be quite exciting. I believe a few factors were 1) the great talent pool 2) the music we don't normally hear (as opposed to warhorse, warhorse, overused crap, rinse, repeat) 3) no Tara Lipinski commentating for this discipline :yes2:.

Im not a dance person, but what effect will C/B skating after P2 (who are considered stronger technically)and before FB/C have? I have to wonder.
I think P2 skate before C/B--didn't they came third last night? Also, looking at protocols, P2 has a higher base value than F/G, and slightly higher GOEs and PCs. But it's the RD--they are so close that the judges could go either way on those two. Much as I enjoy F/G, I'm hoping that P2 pull it out and get a medal! As for the 'first two', can't say I mind either way--I do really love Laurence and Guillaume's FD best, though. Looks like 'the judges have spoken' on Charlene and Marco getting any more medals.

Heck with it--I want the best-performed three FDs to win the three medals! Just as long as one of them is for Piper and Paul...

I feel you. Emotions hit me all over again too getting a peek backstage watching the Netflix documentary at how distraught Piper was after being robbed of their podium place at the GPF. Paul did everything he could to be the most positive, encouraging and uplifting partner to her at that moment. I’m not sure I could have had the class to take the high road the way he did at that moment.
