2026 Olympics: Rhythm Dance

I had no idea watching the world feed with no commentary in real time that Paul’s velcro cuff came undone and got stuck to Piper’s tights during their last lift. They were so professional and played it off so well that I didn’t even notice. Watching the NBC replay now with Tracy and Johnny, who pointed it out to me. Am I ever thankful that it did not fall to the ice and incur them a costume deduction. Phew!

6 point gap is nothing unusual at all.

Also, it was only 5 points, and that number was the result of going 1 single GOE mark higher on 3 of the elements and giving PCS of 9.75, 9.75, 9.75 compared to 9.5, 9.5, 9.25 for Chock/Bates. This is completely normal and not a big separation in the actual marks. The GOE's for Ice Dance elements are simply worth a ton, so going 1 single GOE mark higher on an element can already put a team ahead by more than a point.

Cizeron and Beaudry were much better than every other team in this performance. Absolutely commanding, skating bigger and more precisely than in the team event. A gap of several points is deserved. If it was Papadakis/Cizeron out there competing, almost nobody would say anything if the French team had indeed scored several points higher over the field, as has frequently been the case in the past. But since people have reasons to dislike this partnership, the incredible level of skill is being downplayed.
I am ruined. After reading about Amber's copywrite problems today and a post from Gabriella Papadakis about how she lost her job at the NBC broadcast team at Olys and how she was abused by many, including her former partner (Wiki her) , and now hearing there is something called bladegate and worst of all, "When Johnny Weir failed to medal at the 2010 Olympic Games, he claimed that the powers that be are under pressure to divide the medals among countries and continents at the Olympics to make sure the sport survives" I don't know how much more I can take....I wonder how much I dont know...maybe I know nothing? Everyone have a toe tapping good time!
(I do find it interesting that in the leader's first element, There was one GOE that was a 1 (J3), one that was a 2, five that were a 3, and two that were a four. So what did J3 see that was not seen by the others or what did J3 "Not" see? Was this element reviewed or should it have been?

I'm slightly pulling for C/B to win it all (as I know that Piper & Paul ain't gonna), but IMO they were not as good as in team event. Felt slower and tighter. That said, I think grande French were bit overscored today (and petit French underscored...)
According to the runthrough, the crowd is also pulling for C/B to win it all because they booed when they didn't come in first.

I agree that L/B were underscored. They are such good skaters and have really good material.

Is it 4 judges being replaced or the whole panel? If only four, how is it decided which ones go and which stay?
4.
13 judges were drawn for the Olympic judging panel in ice dance.

9 were drawn for the RD. the other 4, automatically be taking part in the free dance, with 5 from the RD panel, chosen by draw.

So we need Nicholas Russell out :)

It's off the charts annoying. Peacock is probably the same as the USA channel, and they are introducing ice dancing now by talking about the mothers of Chock and Bates. The zamboni might still be going on ---- but they didn't show the entire fist group.
Yes, Peacock is freakin' annoying. Terrible coverage. There is a 'venue feed' on Peacock which shows all the competitors, with commercials and no commentary. But you get to see every skater and the kiss n' cry, too. You have to search for these available tiles under Olympics figure skating if you can't find it in live and upcoming under Sports 2026 Olympics. It's very confusing, but there.

I try to find everything and put it under 'My Stuff', but that's tricky because I at first missed venue feeds because they showed up later in the main Olympics up and coming feed or in the figure skating Olympics feed, and I was going straight to 'My Stuff,' not realizing there were new postings until someone mentioned here that there was a venue feed. The venue feed is still up, but not for long, for Day 3 of the Team Event.

What happened to the Koreans? I did not watch as I was very tired yesterday evening, went early to bed but before felling a sleep just stalked what you guys were talking about but did not get it. Now (6.20 a.m.) am lazy to search. I will today watch only a few RDs of my favs after work. Koreans were on that list, so feel sorry for them.

Catastrophic twizzle error

I find I have to select Figure Skating to even find the replays..I miss how they used to do the Olympics when they first started streaming...now you get venue feed minus commentators that would be preferred over the usual NBC primetime ones...

I didn't like Chock and Bates coaches making faces when they saw the score on the screen. The French deservedly in the lead. They have a strong free dance, and the matador cape program doesn't really work for the Americans, so it's going to be tough for them to win.

Thanks for your in person reviews and I don't think there is anything controversial about your comments. I think most of us felt the Italians and C/B were a bit off their best tonight. C/B looked a lot slower than the TE especially in the middle. P/P were great and what you say about the French is my exact issue with them. I always wanted to see Laurence skate with a partner who matched her incredible skills better and now she does but I find their partnership to lack all sparkle. Their material is also just so simple. I appreciate their skating but I'm really let down by the total package.
Yes I think I expected them to really wow me but they didn’t - they didn’t rise any emotion out of me eventhough they skated brilliantly. My husband thought they were good but boring (he doesn’t know much about ice dance but always like to see what his opinion is, cause I’m curious what ice dance is like to the lay person 😂). I will feed back thoughts after the FD.

I finally got to see some of the RDs tonight, when the Australian broadcaster (Channel 9) showed them. Unfortunately, I didn't see the top two teams. Here are my thoughts on the others whom I saw:

-Holly and Jason: I hadn't seen them many times before, but they have a nice presence and lots of performing ability. They had some technical issues, but they seemed to have good speed and basics. There was also an interview with her family that was very endearing.
-Christina and Anthony: I'm sorry, but this team just doesn't do anything for me. I respect their skating skills, but they lack charisma and connection. I also didn't like their costumes, which looked out of place - very heavy and dark.
-Charlene and Marco: Again, they have excellent skating skills - some of the best in the competition - but I find it hard to connect to them. I have always felt that they were mismatched and that she often shrinks herself to match his height. That said, she was performing and having a great time in their RD! I don't like their costumes, and the cuts in the music were awkward.
-Lilah and Lewis: They're basically the reverse of the Italians for me - fantastic performers, both of them, but they are weaker skaters than the other top teams (especially Lilah). They seem slow and lack depth of edge and ice coverage. I am honestly quite tired of their 'fun, fun fun' gimmick, and I feel like they would really struggle to do, say, a waltz or another 'traditional' dance in hold.
-Piper and Paul: They're both excellent skaters - great basics, ice coverage, speed, etc. I like their choice of music and costumes, but I would like Paul to come out of his shell a bit more and give more face (whereas Piper is performing like a pro). I really hope that they will be able to maintain their third-place spot - Fingers crossed!

Final thought: WTF is up with the British judge? Both here and in the team event, his scoring for Piper and Paul, as well as a few others, was completely egregious. He should be investigated for his obvious bias.
