What happened to Chisago Saigusa with the 6 pts deduction? It was not due to the falls. It seems that she missed the start of the competition?

She wasn't at the rink when her name was called
She ran in and jumped on the ice at the very last moment
They even gave her a bit of time to warm up

Wow! We aren’t even in the final group, and there are already 3A attempts 😳

Actually, there was already skater attempting 3A at the start of the competition: Mone Takahashi (coached by Nakano Sonoko). It will be interesting to see what's going to happen with skaters of the last group.

BTW, it was reported that in the pre-competition practice, Mao Shimada was landing 4T.

Awesome! Good to know. Thanks for the update cohkaix. Nagano Sonoko is one of my favourite coaches. I love Kaori Sakamoto and Mai Mihara (hoping these two close friends make it to the Olympics together, as they are so cute cheering each other on). So, I’m glad to see this coach with some future Junior athletes. I love Japanese Nationals more than Grand Prix and Challenger Events. I love how well organized the Japanese Skating Federation with the technical review panel at the top showing which elements are green, yellow and red. Rooting for Mao to do well here. Is she eligible for Juniors next year?

I really liked Yurina’s program. A shame for all those falls.
Mone Chiba was quite solid, and deserves to be in first place. I like a skater when they are engaged with the program

Awesome! Then, she needs to do well here, so I can cheer for her next season. So, last question. The top 6 here are eligible for Senior Nationals. But, because Mao, is a novice skater, she is not eligible, right? If this is the case, Mone Chiba has already qualified.

Yes, you're right! I forget that Mao will not be able to participate in Nationals. So Mone will be in for sure (congratulate! I think this is her 3 or 4 consecutive participation of the Nationals!). So also in (Nationals) for Ami?

Phew! I’m glad Ayumi held on. I thought she should have scored higher in the short program. This wasn’t her best skate; she did better in Sectionals.

Mao earned a TES of 76.03 and a PCS 50.72 to pair with that....I guess judges in Japan just have their own ways to work with the PCS ranking...

I wonder what happened to Hana. She was solid early in the season.

perhaps 2 3As are too demanding? Hana definitely has the ability to jump clean 3A.

Hana was actually inconsistent in regionals and sectionals compared to last year. She has the 3A and landed one in this competition. But, she needs to clean up the rest of her triples.

JSF is able to send two ladies to junior worlds. I would love for it to be Mone and Rion
