Jason had millions of views in a few days for Riverdance. I don't recall anyone from the ISU doing squat to officially promote him, other than, how cool (I will say, since it was right before the Olys, there was promotion from media, social and otherwise)
Donovan Carrillo has brought millions of viewers to YouTube. Did I see any official support from the ISU? Any taking of his popularity into account when devising rules? No, I did not.
(and I would argue that as far as *new* figure skating fans are concerned, Donovan has done more to attract them than any other skater, bar none.)
So why on God's green earth should the ISU pass, or not pass, rules taking into account only one particular skater *now*? And this rule is not "OMG we hate Ilia and only Ilia rule". Please.
The rule IMO is a good one, I like it, maybe it should have been passed earlier, I hope it does what I think the intention is, but hey, you don't know until you try.
