Alexandra Trusova leaves Eteri Tutberidze

I read this interview with Sokolovskaya https://fs-gossips.com/svetlana-sok...g-a-lazy-person-is-generally-a-big-advantage/

She seemed to be one of the few Russian singles coaches whose attitude towards skating and life is healthy and balanced. She enjoys good relationships with her students. I still remember how she laughed hysterically with Samarin when he had a horrible skate and was still , somehow, leading the competition.

So, I like her as a coach. I don't think she will force her students to train through serious injury. I like Trusova very much (as a person more than as a skater). And, hope she will be happy and, perhaps, successful under her new coach. The Olympics women's event left such a bad taste in my mouth that I have found myself completely uninterested in women's skating this year. It would restore some of my interest if Sasha and the other injured skaters including my favorites Rika, Aliona, Bradie do manage to defy the odds and make come backs.

I think Sasha took a look around at Khrustalny and thought Petrosyan and Akateva are now ahead of me and prepared for the new season, Kamila has two new routines and is still ahead of me. If she gets some her quads back there will be no beating her. At best Sasha can only hope to be 4th best at Krustalny. By the time she returns from injury all three will likely be even better than they are today. 5 quads last season weren't enough for gold and at the moment she's struggling a little to jump triples.

It's not easy to turn up to training every day and only hope to be 4th best when 6 months ago you were setting new records and challenging for Olympic gold. It's also hard to demand your own locker room when you are only 4th best as well.

I thought they gave Sasha a lot of leeway. She spent the summer doing publicity stunts like long jump and travelling doing exhibitions. She turned up to training in far from optimal shape. Was the back injury something she carried through the off season or a recent training injury? If it is a long term injury she shouldn't have been doing long jump or exhibitions until healed, if a recent injury then I think it can be put down to poor preparation and conditioning not from Eteri overtraining her.

Eteri I don't think his any more tougher on her athletes than any coach in a college team sport. They'd just cut you from the team if you turned up to training camp having let yourself go over the off season.

Eteri runs a meritocracy too. She treats her students as equals. Reputation does not count which is how it should be.

Oh dear, the crude fantasies of a typical ET sympathizer. So.
I let everyone their own guesses. Maybe Sasha just knows more than we do. Perhaps it is becoming apparent that Tutberidze will face doping offenses. Maybe Tutberidze has been spending a little much time in the US lately. Maybe maybe.
In addition to the many maybes, there are also facts. Russian sport is COMPLETELY isolated, there are no international competitions and it is likely to be so for a long time. The chances that anyone will go to the next Olympics at all are very, very slim. Now it's time to think about how to behave properly in times like this. Only a fool pretends it's always the same (the same goes for the fans). Everyone knows how suicidal Sasha's training regime was. Why would she go on like this, keep ruining her body? There's just no reason for it anymore. It's smarter to find a head quarter where you're valued, comfortable, caring for your injuries, and a family atmosphere to prepare for shows, which are the only way to make good money. Special times call for special behaviors. I believe the Trusov family council made a wise decision.

PS: All this nonsense "Sasha doesn't want to train next to 'better ones'" etc. We already had all this 1:1 when Sasha switched to Plushenko and it was as stupid then as it is today.

which are the only way to make good money

You know that RusFed this season give skaters more prize money than they can get at international comps (prizes for events + prize for rating)

It is slightly more then that, because exchange rates become better since publishing, but i am lazy to calculate again.

For GP events:

- gold - 8300 USD/ 3300 USD (senior/junior)
- silver - 5000 USD / 1600 USD
- bronze - 3300 USD / 800 USD

For GP final:
- gold - 16000 USD / 5000 USD
- silver - 12500 USD / 3300 USD
- bronze - 8300 USD / 1600 USD

For RusNats:
- gold - 41000 USD / 8300 USD
- silver - 25000 USD / 5000 USD
- bronze - 16000 USD / 3300 USD

Also, skaters will get rating points in season and at the end of it top 3 will get:
1 place - 83000 USD
2 place - 41000 USD
3 place - 16000 USD

Overall, if someone will be lucky and lets say take all first places it will be 8300x2 + 16000 + 41000 + 83000 = 156600 USD

Also there will be 3 other events with money prizes:
- Channel One Cup - total prize fond - 333 000 USD
- Jump tournament - total prize fond - 166 000 USD
- Tournament for gala programs - total prize fond - 166 000 USD

Well, at least Lapidarnost shares my point of view:
"And then I took it and understood. It's just that sometimes a person needs to switch to something simpler and more understandable. Sometimes you need to give your eyes and mind a break.
Of course, that didn't happen directly with Sasha Trusova, but the direction of thought is similar. It is clear that the "Die or Die" training program is effective, no one thought to doubt it. But sometimes athletes like us – normal people – need contrast and calm. Someone is ending a career or taking a break right now. Obviously, Sasha isn't done yet. So she looks for a source of calm and serenity.
She didn't have a chance to make a wrong decision because only she knows what's best for her here and now. She chose comfort, care, attention (all of which are plentiful in Svetlana Vladimirovna's group) and a loved one nearby. I could choose something higher, more majestic - toughness, endurance and results, but why? Sasha considered it unnecessary.
All the higher and gigantic was her life already in abundance. Now she can afford to exhale and just be a happy person who enjoys very ordinary, sometimes trivial things.
And no one has the right to blame her for that."

In terms of money, I think Plushenko's show has a much better cost/benefit ratio. Especially when you include health aspects. Not to mention the fact that there can now also be life away from the ice rink, i.e. real(!) life. As I said before, I think it's a wise decision. The 5-quad skate at the Olympics, which all sofa pundits and the entire Russian fs-beau monde paint as the pipe dream of a cracked teenager, has been delivered. And not honored by the establishment. Finally, it's time to wake up and realize that there are walls that will never be broken. The old men and women prefer to drag frail fairies onto the podium with waving arms and aching faces, because that's what they want from female figure skating, not athletic excellence. All well and good, but then figure skating should be stripped of Olympic status because it doesn't reconcile with the Olympic spirit of higher, faster, further.

I think this nails the situation pretty much. Keep in mind before the ban Sasha had pulled out of Worlds, she just needed a break. Eteri requires 100% commitment to the program-by everyone-and Sasha wasn't willing to continue in this world. I don't think she felt any animosity toward the up and comers getting attention, she even commented on how unfair it is that they are not getting the opportunities she was afforded. Women's skating these days seems to be about survival and injuries-even if we are talking about skaters who only do triples. Much much more must be done to examine training methods-not just in Russia but everywhere-because top skaters are dropping like flies, and have been for the past quad.

love an athlete who stands up for herself, speaks up when she's had enough or it's not working, and makes a change in her own best interest.

i'm sure she will be just another who was too "lazy" because she refused to train through injuries instead of letting them heal and further break her body. and for what? not competing at the GPF, Euros, Worlds and quite possibly the next Olympics? nah.

lots and lots of respect for her. i hope this move works out for her.

It's almost official.

"Beijing Olympic silver medalist Alexandra Trusova has applied to the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKR) about moving to a group Svetlana Sokolovskaya.
This is reported TASS with reference to a source familiar with the situation."

"Alexandra Trusova will represent the "Khrustalny" and coaches Tutberidze, Dudakov, Gleikhengauz during the current season

"Sasha will train with Sokolovskaya, but she will continue to represent the "Khrustalny", since she applied later than the deadline for the so-called transfer window," said the press secretary of the FFKKR Ermolina"

I am confused, so who will be by the boards with her during the season? And does that mean that Eteri's team will get a part of Trusova's prize money from competitions, or is the representation just a formality?

I don't think Sasha will be getting too much money from competitions this year, but I'm sure that Eteri's team gets a 30% cut from her performances at shows though. At the same time Eteri's team have put time and resources into preparing her for this season and could have put that time and money into someone else.

Sokolovskaya will be with her since she is no longer coached by Eteri, but TT will still get a cut of her earnings.

It mean that all funding for Sasha from RusFed will go to TeamTut for this season. Also all Sasha results this season also go to TeamTut (and they can influence funding for TeamTut for next season in terms of coaches salary from RusFed and such).

Basically it is same situation as with Kosto last time. She go to Plush, but all money go to TeamTut.

Okay, thanks for your replies. Good luck to Trusova then! It'll be interesting to see her direction under the new coach.

Btw, today RusFed publish some new rules, and here something about transfers:

FFKKR explained to the coaches how to behave in case of a transition of skaters 👇

"The coach has no right to negotiate with athletes of other clubs/coaches with a proposal to transfer to him or to have conversations that can be interpreted as offers to transfer.

If an athlete of another club/ coach appeals with a desire to go to him to train, the coach to whom the athlete wants to go, guided by the principles of collegiality, respect and partnership, informs the current coach of the athlete, as well as the head of the sports school in order to settle and discuss the conditions of transition"
