Evgeni Plushenko

Looks really cool! I wish he would have answered the question in the chat yesterday about whether it will be aired on tv (or maybe he did and I missed it).

Johnny has studied Russian for a long time, and his coaches (Galina & Viktor) always spoke Russian with him, so he must be pretty fluent by now.

In the earlier news clip, from when they were shooting the teaser trailer, Johnny spoke Russian in that one as well.

Tsk, Sandpiper! You're clearly not paying attention - it's for kids AND adults. The fairy tale is for the children - and the axels are for the grown ups. (And then there are people like me who enjoy both - but then, I always did say that I'd never grow up, and that way, people would not be able to tell where my first childhood ended, and my second begun. ;) )
During the Q&A, he said he wanted to show figure skating as a courageous sport to attract kids. So I went, "Ah, so that's why he's combining fairy tale with difficulty... wait, would kids be able to tell between triple axel and double toe?"

But I guess he's using the 3As to demonstrate figure skating's difficulty to the parents? I dunno if that's going to make it attractive though... I mean, even Plushy himself isn't going to let his son figure skate! (though in the past, I think he said it was because he already achieved everything there and wants his son to cut his own path?)

I believe the kids can recognize the great jumps , the spectacular and difficult elements if they don't know their names...

I have no idea what is this, but I would like to see the whole video..

Another episode of the Miyu show (I don't know what it's actually called...). :) Can't wait!

Plushy doesn't want Sasha to skate competitively, but did you see him on the ice in the video? He looks pretty comfortable there...suppose he decides to skate just to rebel against his father's wishes? Could we see Evgeni and Sasha Plushenko on the same podium in 13-14 years?

and who will be the winner??;)

unfortunately Plushy said Sasha wil change his mind, if he wants to be skater.....

Lol, for the longest time, I had no idea which jump was which. In fact, I didn't even know what jump was which in Vancouver (and I wasn't exactly a kid then), except this whole "quad" business that everyone fell on. But Russian kids probably know better than me. :p It's in their blood.

This looks awesome! I can't wait. (If some good soul subs it again...)

What was he saying during that part of the Q&A? Google refused to translate it. It just went, "And if Sasha wants to skate? <Russian>"

Exactly - I wondered the same thing.

ETA - Here it is:

"But at the same Sasha will ride, I taught him the elements. But a professional skater - no. If he wants to? Perehochetsya!"

Whatever does that mean?

From Russian: Perehochetsya= he will get over his desire (to skate), quit it.

Thank you.

Hmmm, though... I wouldn't be so confident about that if I were Plushy - he's his son after all... Well, let's hope he doesn't want to become a figure skater, and potential trouble in the Plushenko household will be averted. I suppose there's no use in "borrowing trouble", so to speak...

I think it's basically the parent concern about the health of the kid. No one wans his/her kid to suffer from the same traumas, etc. You can't expect a kid of an Olympic champion and one of the biggest athletes to gain the same talent and skill from a parent. Of course if the kid would like to pursue Dad's way- he will have to have the nerve of steel- he will always be compared to his Dad, always. And if he wouldn't be able to gain more titles in FS he shouldn't even try to.

Oh, I agree with all that - there are definitely major concerns. I'm not saying that I want him to become a figure skater - merely that, if he does really want to, and sets his mind to it, well... I doubt he will just give it up or quit just like that. That's what I meant by his being Plushy's son after all. :) So, therefore it would be best if he simply doesn't want to.:)

Ah, thank you! Interesting how Russian can express that in a single (?) word.

I would agree that going into figure skating when your father is Evgeni Plushenko is probably not the smartest idea. Those are records that no one can live up to. But, if Sasha decides that's what he truly wants, I hope there's no conflict in the household.
