Evgeni Plushenko

But in the Swedish documentary, he said he admires David Beckham and he likes fashion! I think he has improved his fashion sense a lot since he met Yana...let me see what I can dig up...

Did someone say flowery shirt? http://i.imgur.com/WMcVMPF.jpg

awful clothes...:disapp: Yes, he likes Backham..look at the tattoos on Plushy's arms.. ;) He was the pioneer among the skaters. I read some opinions he is the Russian Beckham, he is metrosexual like his idol..

Oh my God, that second flowered shirt is a shocker! It looks like curtain from an old English house! :slink:

I can't judge him too harshly for the denim jacket with the denim jeans look because I used to sport that myself waaaaay after it went out of style.

Love the long hair - that's a mullet McGuyver would be proud of!

I think Yana, too, wants to model their family after the Beckhams. Nothing wrong with that, I guess.

His hair looks so good in that photo! Like cornsilk...:o:

LOL, MacGuyver.

Oh wow... Flower shirts. Anonymoose is right; it looks like he took a page out of Gone with the Wind. He kinda rocks the denim though... but don't ask me, you'll (still) never see me wearing anything but jeans unless I'm at a formal concert.

So wait... people within the figure skating community consider him too "Roar! Manly! Policing gender norms!" but people outside it consider him metrosexual?

Excited for the TV show! :yay:

Yes. He is very masculine on ice, but it seems not every people think that even within the skating fans either. I remembered http://phrazey.tumblr.com/post/80004658982/evgeni-plushenko-lost-programs

"But - I don't want to be negative - but it feels like Plushenko has destroyed mens figure skating. His passion, pain, grace, strength, weird masculine femininity, fighting spirit. He was unique. And he makes all the other skaters look boring"

Maybe they was thinking of his biellmann spin when they wrote that?

I don't think that opinion about such a concrete thing. Maybe his looks when he was younger. His girlish hair (cornsilk ;) ), his body was so graceful -I think they deliberately did not confirm the upper body muscles. He remained very slim and his arms are also very thin. Plus the Bielmann spin and the Asissai in all together. But his skating is the most powerful ever.....I don't know... :rolleye:

I've always considered Plushy "middle of the road" in terms of masculine/feminine. Metrosexual is not the right description, but "roar! manly! policing gender norms!" is equally untrue. I'm generally not into the super masculine (Stojko) or super feminine (Weir) skaters. Nothing wrong with it, of course, just not my taste.

Perfect timing! The men's practice just ended and I have time to kill before the competition starts. :yay:

A cute photo of Plushy and Konstantin Menshov - not sure how old they are here, but despite the height difference, they are practically the same age (I know Plushy will be 32 in a couple days ). I really admire Kostya for not only continuing to skate, but improving with age. I read somewhere that his coach said 99% of skaters would have given up by now - especially since his results have never been near Plushy's. But if he can do it, then there's no doubt in my mind that Plushy can succeed if/when he comes back.

How cute they were!! Wish luck to Menshov!!

I was really, really impressed by Menshov at Skate Canada. When the commentator said, "One of the Russian skaters will attempt two quads in the SP," I thought, wait, Kovtun isn't here. Then I realized the only Russian around was Menshov, and assumed the commentator misspoke. Then he went out there and nailed the two quads, and I just went :jaw: :points: Young'uns who stumbled and slipped in SkAm last week, take notes.

Whatever happens in the LP, Menshov might've thrown down an unbeatable record: Oldest guy to land two quads in the SP. Is anyone, ever, going to repeat that feat? (Lol, maybe if Plushy comes back and tries 4T-4T?)

the first part of the TBS film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJYGhv9sfqk [1] Плющенко ぷるasakusaへSP 2014.11.01
Thank you! Can't wait for the next part.
