Evgeni Plushenko

Woah, the Snow King set looks really good (and expensive).

He's invested $2 million of his own money. There also must be some sponsor's money as well. The scenery and machinery are very expensive. He also invited several stars (Olympic and World champions). Since this show is sort of a Christmas gift for kids there are a lot of rtally chip tickets ($6 to 10), he won't earn very much on it. Maybe they will make the tickets more expensive after the New Yer holidays in schools are over.

Oh Plushy! I admire you more! Please release a DVD, I will buy it! I hope he can earn back and make more shows like this.

So nice to see Evgeny's fans outside Russia because in Russia he is attacked more and more often. Some people say that he became too commercial, and even his charity events are used for promotion. Some other scream that he blocks the way to the top for the young guys. I don't know what's going on, but it all looks like a very well planned campaign.

I've seen the "blocking the young" argument before - and it makes no sense. How many competitions has he taken part in since 2006? Not many - one GP event, I believe? 2009? NO Worlds'. I'm not sure how he has prevented the younger Russian skaters from setting the world of figure skating on fire? They've had plenty of opportunities to do so - not to mention many, many years...

ETA - Just to clarify; the comment was directed at the argument; not at you MariaRafael, I know you weren't saying that you thought so!

I read $ 5 million in some interviews, mostly Plushy and Yana 's money.. The other tickets are expensive.. 500-4500 rubles( $ 9-130). Russia almost in ecomomic crisis. And you don't forget about the 50 shows in Japan, 10 shows in China and I don't know how many in Europe.

He has many fans in Russia. You would know if you follow him. He was attacked after Sochi, yes. Because some stupid people thought that he had no surgery.. Yagudin. -what an envy and liar person, I don't forget Vovan's (pranker) joke, brrrrr-, Averbukh- we all know why he attacked Plushy, Zhirinovsky- he got the money from Baturin to his political campaign -, and some other famous skaters, most of them apologized Plushy after his surgery..

Poll "Moral authority" by Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) which was held during august....

Of course, at the first place are politicians ... but among athletes, Plu is on "3rd" place - only Emelianenko and Tretiak get round 1% of the votes, Plushy led a small group of athletes who are nevertheless, mentioned

Who is for you moral authority from the famous people of the country?
Name, please, no more than five names.

Putin 36%
Lavrov 6
Sergei Shoigu 5
...
F. Emelianenko 1
Vladimir Tretiak 1
...
Other art workers (Alexander Solzhenitsyn, L. Zykina, O. Basilashvili, D. Matsuev, etc..) 9
Other athletes (K. Ju, E. Plushenko, I. Viner, A. Arshavin...) 3%
Scientists (Sakharov, Kapitsa, Alferov et al.) 2
...

TeleFOM - a representative survey of the population of 18 years and older. The survey involved 1,000 respondents. Interview in the mode of a telephone survey of a random sample of phone numbers. 320 towns, 160 villages. The statistical error does not exceed 3.8%.

Two weeks ago http://prosport-online.ru/football/100-samyh-populyarnyh-rossijskih-sportsmenov

he was the 3rd most popular athletes in Russia

I know those opinions, I read the Russian forum.. Sorry, but they are envy of Plushy fame, money, or hate his wife etc. You know, sometimes I also tired of the articles what I read about Plushy . Every day a fresh news on him in newspapers, and magazines, his tweets are shared on news, Tv news etc.
He became too commercial? Really?
He is one of the biggest stars, his wife is one of the biggest Russian celebrities.. Some Russians think the star quality, the celebrity is not compatible with an athlete.
I read Plushy can sell everything..He has Mercedes, Wicks, R.o.c.k.s, Swiss Ulysse Nardine watch, apatements in Sochi, Bingo Boom(Russian lottery) advertisements.

And Sandpiper is right. He had 6 competitons since 2006. Where were the youngs?

", and even his charity events are used for promotion." LOL! I think you ask the children who were in his charity shows.....stupidity..

and finally: this is my experience the mediocre people don't like the special persons as Plushy. The special persons show how crappy is their life.

It's another shot of the floating Snow King's carriage. This time from the front--and you can see Johnny rolling behind it.

@Plushyfan
I think MariaRafael is just saying some portions of the Russian media have attacked him recently. Of course he still has fans both in Russia and abroad. Now let's hope Snow King is successful.

Actually I think that the recent attacks are aimed against The Snow King. There's an competing ice show run by Ilya Averbuch. Evgeny planned his show in March. Even billboards were already in the streets. Averbuch's show was planned for approximately the same time. The first attack occured early in March. Evgeny cancelled his show, and went to Israel for treatment. The second attack started in November.

When Evgeny skated, I wasn't even his fan (cheered for Stefane Lambiel), still I can't help appreciating Evgeny: he participated in 4 Olympic Games and won 2 gold and 2 silver medals. How many skaters did better than he? Now reading our Russian forums I don't believe my eyes: he should've let Kovtun represent Russia in the Olympic Games in Sochi. My God! Kovtun was 17th in the previous world championships. He failed so badly that Russia had only one representative in mens' skating for the first time during the last 40 years.

It seems like anyone who becomes successful has to deal with a backlash of some sort. I would think most Russians would be proud to have such a champion representing their country, but there are always those who find something negative to say. I don't really understand Averbuch's motivations, but I have to say I get a creepy vibe from him when I read his interviews or see him on tv shows.
