Evgeni Plushenko

Sorry about the multiple posts, but... After another visit to our recent NEWS! Plushenko-thread, I must say... it's still pretty benign at this point. I'm pleasantly surprised, actaully. (Compared to threads in yesteryear... it has plenty of time to get ugly, though - I think preparing oneself for the worst is always, in these cases, the best option.)

Yeah, it's me again.... :o:

But I just came across this:

"I will be back(Terminator)" He is. #KingAreBack @EvgeniPlushenko

At least one person is happy - love it.:) By the way, where is that Pluminator artwork when we need it?

Coach Mishin: Plushenko prepares for next sesaon starting in May

Yes - I hope she hasn't fainted...

I'm trying to refrain from commenting in the main thread while sleep-deprived, as I'm sure I will regret it...the comments are as predictable as always. Yet not 24 hours ago, people in the WTT threads were bemoaning the state of the terrible Russian men :rolleye: and begging for him to return...can't live with him, can't live without him, I guess!
The best kind of relationship!

The only "new" part is 2016 Europeans. I dunno if it'll happen or not, but maybe he's eyeing the European titles record... or something. I don't know. This is crazy. But it's been crazy for a long, long time.

Aha, so The Mystery Person at the Laureus Awards is the one to blame for all this!

I just had the weird thought of weird thoughts. Y'know, with all the things Plushy has won, he has never won... Skate America. Perhaps it's time to take that now, hence returning to the GP series...?

You got it! Although the writing has sadly been on the wall for Menshov for a few seasons...the RusFed does not like him. But I'll keep being a fan no matter what.

Of course Yana has something to say about all this, and here it is:

The Google Translate almost gave me a panic attack. "Quadruple axel?!?! ...oh, right, quadruple jump and axel..."

The sentiment about seeing the Sochi Team together again is pretty nice... especially since Russia looks on track to losing WTT gold (again :disapp:).

Wow, so it's not a late April Fools joke or someone trolling!

I'm kind of excited...I can't help wishing he gets to the 2018 Olympics just to rub it in the face of the haters and for the awesomeness, plus I do think he's still competitive.

I'm a bit hesitant to go into the News! thread though...maybe once I've fortified myself.

Glad you warned us! Seriously, Google Translate get it together!

As for Skate America...I guess time will tell! :yay:

Is it very, very wrong that my reaction to this was: Yeah! Go get it, Plushy!

Is it wrong that my further thoughts are: Wait, where's Skate America next year? Is it East Coast? If he's there, then I will be too!

(I'm 95% certain he won't participate in the GP and 99% certain that it won't be Skate America if he does, but... still... one brief dream.)

Naw, that was my thought too!

OK went to the News thread...it wasn't that bad, I guess, but what's the deal with blaming Plushy if the other younger Russian skaters can't beat him? That's not Plushy's fault! Perhaps it'll give the others a kick in the pants.

There was also talk of him been stuck in the 6.0 system, which reminds me...I can't help feeling all the transitions have taken away from the footwork section a bit, it just doesn't stick out as much as it used to...and Plushy always has such fabulous footwork.

Still, it'll be enjoyable to watch him!

What's going to happen with the Snow King world tour, and how is he going to manage to train & keep up with that + all the other shows he has booked? I'm still not sure what to think about this...I guess I'll just take it one day at a time.

I think there is too much emphasis on transitions in COP for my taste as well. A difficult one here or there is admirable, sure, but I would prefer programs to be a little less packed and better executed in general. I'm more impressed by the quality of the jumps themselves, & other elements (spins, footwork, etc.). Ideally there should be room for skaters of all different styles and strengths.

Oh, that's par for the course.... He's ruined generations of Russian male skaters, apparently... Considering how little he's actually competed, I don't even understand how he's supposed to have hindered anyone from setting the world of FS on fire... But... I'm an uber, so what do I know?;)

And recently I saw the claim that his mere threat of returning is causing skaters to be inconsistent... out of fear, apparently. Apparently even his shadow is so scary, it turns other skaters into nervous wrecks... Or something?

I don't even.... for me it's one of those "Can't these people even hear themselves?" Does this even make any sense? Not to me, it doesn't.

I know that Sergei has always spoken positively about Plushy returning again & again. I'm too tired to go look for the interviews, but he said something like it pushes the others to do better. And I would hope that the younger ones like Adian & Sasha see it that way too.

I like the transitions I don't even think about... I mean, if they feel like they are part of the program, so I don't even pay them particular attention. I don't need skaters to be squiggling and wriggling all over the place before a jump. And I don't understand the obsession that jumps are supposedly hardly to be noticed at all. I like to see a great jump emphasised - I don't see the joy of it having it sneaked up on me... and the skater doesn't even hold the landing but is off skipping about or doing something else immediately after. No, I don't need a skater to use half the rink to set up a double... but if it's a hard jump? Sure - I like the "Wow!" factor of a difficult jump - I don't know the point of trying to pretend it wasn't really there. (shrug)

Gasp! Now it's Yana's fault! Remember when she said just that a few weeks ago. :laugh2: Glad no-one in the News! thread has brought that up.

Although...will this affect Snow King and its world tour, because that would suck. Can't have it all, I guess!

Yes! I've been watching all of Plushy's performances on Youtube and when he holds the landing on some of his jumps (the ones not in combo) it's really graceful and wonderful to watch. Although it was funny when once or twice he'd do a jump out of footwork and the commentator would be "Wow that's really hard to do!" and now it's par for the course!

And yeah, programs are so busy these days...Dick Button liked to complain about Plushy's arm movements, but I found they emphise certain parts of the program rather than just squiggles and wriggles to get more transitions in.

In the absence of Plushyfan - seriously where have you got to Plushyfan? - here's Plushy's latest instagram: https://instagram.com/p/1nFjjEGy6m/

Which I can't seem to get Chrome to translate...but +3 GOE for the pink shoes! :cheer:

I have also changed my user title for the LOLs.
