Evgeni Plushenko

A little bit annoying. Read tomorrow ;)

But the histeria just started..

Good advice - will do!

And yes, we had better all just buckle in - because it's going to be a very bumpy few years ahead! Though, I'll say that I'm still pleasantly surprised at how relatively benign it has been here at GS so far - I expected much worse; much worse! Maybe it's the calm before the storm.;)

I'm not sure if people will believe it's really happening until they see him warming up on the ice..and maybe not even then. :slink:

Wow look at all those interviews! Even Yags! I was just wondering what Yags was up to yesterday.

However, damn Google Translate - there was a poll on the Yags article that I didn't realise was a poll and I accidentally voted "No he's too "old" for how I felt about his comeback! Now I feel like a bad stan. :p

But it's interesting to read all the reactions.

Oh, I was wondering when Yags would put in his two cents. But he's pretty tame this time around...well, it's still too early to get the popcorn, isn't it?

What do we think will be Plushy's first competition?

Hasn't stopped people complaining and holding their hands up in horror before;) - even whilst expressing total and utter disbelief at the same time. But... if that's the explanation for the relative calm... that's fine with me.:)

I'm not sure if the GP isn't too early? But if not that, then some Senior B probably before Nationals. What about Japan Open - even though early, it's a non-serious competition, so he might want to give his FP a whirl in a competitive setting, just to try it out. But, even so, maybe too early? Also, who knows what his situation is vis-à-vis shows &c, and what shows will clash. Still, an interesting thing to speculate about! Also, I hope we get to see some version of the programs in shows in the summer...

Well the costume from the other one was even more swan-like here (the quality is crummy, but you get the idea), but that test skate one is great! Why didn't he wear it at Nationals 2013? I am disappoint... :p

Oh well, fingers crossed for new costumes soon!
Also, another version of the Saint-Saens Medley with the swan costume, 2012 Japan Open: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLS0nncSEjc

A bit of a lopsided skate (lands two quads, then falls on a freaking double axel ), but I think it's more "put together" than the test skate. And several good quality jumps. I don't understand why he ditched the swan outfit for his best performance of the program (Nationals).

Found a video of Yags's full interview - anyone willing to translate?

https://youtu.be/-9knCPIIGCo

Lots of blablabla
He is talking about his ice show experience (like learning to skate in ice shows with other people as he is a single skater and was not used to it)
that skating is more sport than art specially under COP
on Plush's return: "if he wants, the question is if he can... We will see"

Well, that seems pretty harmless enough. So far.;):)

Alexei Mishin - the successes and challenges of the Russian national team finished the season
...

- On Friday, your pupil Evgeni Plushenko announced the resumption of careers. When beginning your work?
- On this occasion, I want to make a statement. I would like to speak not about the plans of our joint work and its results. Less announcements, more business. With regard to the Eugene's readiness to try new quad, my method - report the facts. I wish we Eugene accountable not on plans and designs, and already an accomplished act and that there is less media hype associated with his name because of the training and preparation.

I really afraid PLush will kill himself. He didn't gave interview..... Mishin said this..Plush will work so hardly and so stubbornly...Probably we won't know too much about his preparation...Guys, he is 32! not 22!!!!!!!!!!!

Why I am not a fan of another skater??? My life would be much easier and more calm!!!:hopelessness:

Well, i put this pic on my computer..this is my wallpaper https://twitter.com/senchan2005/status/544013403182755840/photo/1 I find it incredible beautiful. Cool back!!!

Well, he has always wanted to do that quad lutz...still, I'm sure Mishin knows what he's doing! He's the professor after all.

That's a good action photo there. My Plushy wallpaper is Chiroro's drawings, cute stuff.

Stay calm, Plushyfan! I'm sure everything will be fine!

Imagine voting for Yagudin all those years back. There would've been only emptiness after 2002. :laugh2: And look at Hanyu's fans.
I bet you enjoy the drama!

:hopelessness: as a fan of all 3, you know I have literally no heart for all this attacks.

I'm also a ski-jumping fan and I guess it's easier for me because of that. I'm used to seeing (or imagining seeing) my favourite jumpers (or any jumper) getting caught by gusts of wind or landing headfirst, because of unsafe equipment or time schedules and stuff. I watch anyway, always hoping that nothing bad happens.
And figure skating is much more predictable, when it comes to Plushenko and Mishin I trust them 100%.
Plushenko will not injure himself beyond repair and he isn't going to embarrass himself.
But Yagudin is right when he says that "We'll see if he can." We'll see and it would really be exciting to see him again!

Honestly, I'm far more sanguine about this than I was in 2013 - I'm not talking about potential placements in competitions here; I'm talking about being - after having time to digest it all - far less worried about Plushy's condition. As I said, he's not starting from scratch - in 2013 he didn't begin ice training until, I believe, June; and had to start doing the easiest jumps again. Now, he's still got the quad. I actually believe that he probably is feeling quite good - far better than he has in years - and that is in part what has prompted his return. He probably feels that, if he managed as well as he did under those horrible conditions - why couldn't he do better now, that he is feeling far better?

Obviously, I may be completely wrong, and he is feeling like something the cat dragged in, but is pushing his poor battered body through all this because... ? But until I know anything else for certain, I'm going to keep a positive outlook. "Enough to the day is the evil thereof."

Yes. But the histery just started as I said. His recent interview http://www.sports.ru/others/figure-skating/1029096821.html
Olympic champion Alexei Yagudin said Sergei Voronov performance and Maxim Kovtun last season.
....
Remains except that psychological instability, which, however, has always been. Let's see what will happen next. Pressure remains: constant comparison with Plushenko, attacks on Max in the press. This effect, "- said Yagudin

No. Honestly, no!!! Probabaly you recognized I love that guy. I want to him the best all the time, in every cases. I'm worried about his health. His comeback is too risky in many ways, it really is incomprehensible why he wants to compete. Oh, yes, I always worried about Hanyu's health, he seems too fragile for me. When he fall, I always think he can't stand up. Plus his asthma, his other problems.. But he is strong as steel, he can do those amazing jumps.

Yes, Yagudin was OK then. But read his new interviw. And this is true, Yagudin said many times about Plushy like these: he can't live without skating, his life is only the skating, but he ( Yagudin ) has many plans, he will be singer, actor etc. But he couldn't realize them.. But Plushy didn't reacted his comments, he only said Yagudin was his main rival he pushed him all the time, he couldn't have been such a great skater without Yagudin. He invited him to his birthday show, and Yags skated in it. This peace finished in 2013 november, when Plushenko won the Volvo Cup, and he had chance to go to Sochi. Yagudin started to attacks, probably he wanted to help Tat. And then Plushy said a very funny respons. I can find , if you are curious. After Sochi, Yagudin was one of the main attackers, he gave many interviews, he spoke in TV talk shows.. He said Plushy had no injury, he wanted to just the team medal, and he wanted to promote his show tour in Russia.
After when was the biggest chaos around Plushenko he tweeted it he and his family were threathened by Plushy and Yana. That was a humourist's joke, and Yag already knew, that was a bad joke!!! And he tweeted it!!( The humourist said probably Yag wanted to some extra PR's with Yana and Plush). After this Plushy said Yagudin doesn't exist for him ( not exactly, but I can't quote). They followed each other on Twitter, but Plushy deleted Yagudin, doesn't follow him. ( Yana, does. ) And some months later, Yagudin said in an interview Plushy was the good decision to send......

Yes, he is in better condition now. In 2013 he almost needed to learn to walk again, he stepped on ice in May. Oh, I remember we followed his preparation it was a great voyage!!!

When I remember correctly, Yagudin had to retire at his peak because of his hip. Plushenko obviously has an extraordinary body, so I guess there also is some jealousy on Yagudin's side, not only because of the fact that Mishin preferred Plushenko. It was such a great rivalry between those two, I think this can never stop. But I agree with you, Plushenko always acts like a true gentleman whereas Yagudin doesn't.
See it this way: Plushenko can most probably still do what he likes best and Yagudin cannot. I don't want to think about this whole Yagudin, Kovtun, Tarasova thing at all, it makes my mind whirl. If Kovtun can't keep up with Plushenko he will not be able to keep up with the likes of Hanyu, Ten, Fernandez and Chan. Voronov has the right mindset. And maybe he can show them all that he's not too old.
One of my all-time favourit ski-jumpers, Noriaki Kasai, is already 42 and still competing, he even won a competition this season. And ski-jumping is a sport where you need springiness, which declines with age.
And 32 is not so old, really! This is so thrilling!
