Thanks Plushyfan! When I was a girl, he was my idol. I loved him more than any other skaters. I started to see him after Nagano Olympics. The video reminds me of my memory. Swan-lake video at the age of 16 was precious! :yay: I saw him live this summer for the first time, I was surprised he has a good posture, good overall alignment of his body. I thought he’d trained himself in ballet lessons.

I don't know how many ballet lessons he had in the past, but Mishin said Plushenko had a great posture when he arrived in St. Petersburg. He didn't have to learn it.

If you missed this video, he was only 13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRZoZWEzCYQ and this is also ballet music, the Don Quixote.. The commentator said he has a tipical Russian style..

Oh, I remembered Mishin's sentence about his arrival in St Petersburg. I don't know where i found this english article but I saved on my computer..

Mishin, one of the great wisecracking storytellers in skating, loves to describe 11-year-old Plushenko's arrival at the famed Yubileyny Sports Palace in St. Petersburg: "He looked like a cheap chicken, very green and very blue and no fat .... very ecological!" I can imagine how looked he is

but the whole writing is very interesting

But beneath Plushenko's rawness, Mishin, like everyone else, saw a vast reservoir of uncommon gifts. Plushenko was a fearless jumper, but he also had an artistic sensibility and long elegant limbs. And there rarely has been a male skater with such flexibility. Plushenko had seen a young female skater in Volgograd do the back-wrenching Biellmann spin and wanted to try it. In a Biellmann spin, a skater reaches back and grabs the skate of an extended leg and brings it as far up in the air, behind the back, as it will go. Improper use can lead to back problems and Plushenko's mother allowed him to perform it only after he promised that he would practice the proper technique, every day. He got so good at the spin that he could do it rotating in either direction, and became the first man in the world to perform it in competition. He made it his signature artistic move.

His other signature moves were his outrageous jumps. By the time Plushenko arrived on the elite stage, most of the major triple- and quadruple-jump milestones had been reached, so he worked on doing the jumps higher and more dramatically, and later on refining combinations.

When he was 16, he stunned the audience at Japan's NHK Trophy competition with the world's first quad-triple-double combination (toe loop/toe loop/loop), and a nine-rotation monster he would go on to land successfully more than two dozen times. In 2002, he trumped himself by turning the double loop part of the combination into a triple, for the world's first quad-triple-triple.

At the 2001 Worlds in Vancouver, he landed a four-jump string of quadruple toe loop, triple toe loop, and two double loops to loudly punctuate a victory which was already his.

At a gala exhibition in 2005, he landed a triple-triple-triple-double conbination and then went overboard during an exhibition at the Europeans, combining two triple jumps with a string of four double jumps - a dizzying 14 successive rotations.***

In his earliest years on the world stage, Plushenko was an unrefined leaper capable of bad decisions during competition. Named to the Russian team for the 1998 World Championships when Ilia Kulik withdrew after his Olympic victory, he fell on an opening quad, panicked and rewrote his entire program, racing down to the other end for an unplanned quad, which was also a failure.
( he was just 15 and he can rewrite the program!!) It was a weak field, though, and he finished third in that world debut. ( What a shame!)Two years later at Nice, he was enjoying an unbeatable season but, on the verge of winning his first Worlds, imploded in the free skate and finished fourth. (He cried a little bit in the K&C )

But he learned quickly and began trusting his artistic strengths to carry him when the jumps weren't quite perfect. He received his first perfect 6.0 mark when he was 16, the youngest ever for a man, and by the time the old system was mothballed after the 2003-04 season, Plushenko had amassed 75 perfect 6.0s, including the last four given out to a male competitor at the Worlds (2004, for free skating presentation).

And after a groin injury, and subsequent surgery, kept him out of the 2005 World Championships and Grand Prix final, he blew the field away at the 2006 Olympics, setting new points records in both segments of the competition and taking the gold by an unworldly 27-point margin over rising star Stephane Lambiel.

While he stopped competing after his Olympic win to rest the knees which had been battered by thousands of powerful takeoffs and landings, Plushenko has often threatened a return to eligible skating, both to quench his competitive thirst and to boost declining Russian fortunes in the men's division.

He is a hero in Russia, largely for his spectacular track record, but also because, like Irina Slutskaya, he did not leave for greener pastures during the country's rudderless period.

"I couldn't," he explained. "Russia is home."

Thank you plushyfan!

Chinese fans’ welcome is heart-worming (Especially, those lovely roses!) He’s delivered a lot to fans through his skate or the way he lives his life. So he’s received a lot from them. It’s wonderful.:)

His golden costume had huge impact (but in some ways, it matches him..). Ballet dancer image matches him, his body shape, gold hairs..

We know well about Russian great cultures, ballet, performance, music, art, literature, etc,… Plushy feels like having firmly background thereof. (I’m impressed with his words “Russia is home." ) .
If you missed this video, he was only 13. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRZoZWEzCYQ and this is also ballet music, the Don Quixote.. The commentator said he has a tipical Russian style..
Just amazing. He was born to be a skater. None of skaters at the age of 13 couldn’t do such a performance. And the comment is interesting. Russia has the tradition and its style in figue skate.

Thanks for all the introductions. He was profoundly gifted child. At that time, it was difficult to get information about him far from Japan.. I tried hard to find something about him. It’s totally different than today! What’s more, figure skate was not so popular in Japan, and broadcast was much less than today. He came to NHK cup several years in a row. I was very happy and I remember well about these days.

The achievement at his first WC was incredible. I remember him get the audience into his perms in a video! He is always showman!

One of the things I felt about him in watching him live this summer, it is that he was great just being himself. His motion itself was works of art. He didn’t need to try to express something. I recently came to go to see skate live. Watching skate live is rather different to in TV. I knew skaters tell their lives. To see them skating, I can easily tell how they’ve lived their lives or their personality. About him, I felt his fiercely hot spirit and heart like heated steel. He has stable belief in himself. And I knew he went through tough challenges without running away from them. Great skater teaches great things just through his skate without saying anything.

Sorry, I said my impression long! :drama: I wish my words to make sense! He is naturally merry-making man? He is funny. I should follow him.

hamaguri - all of your posts are very interesting, and quite easy to understand! You never need to apologize for writing a lot. :)

I saw something about a live stream for the show in China, but I think it happens in the middle of the night here, so I doubt I can stay up for any of it. Hopefully someone will upload the videos right away.

The artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet, People's Artist of Russia Sergei Filin help twice Olympic champion in the preparation of competitive programs for the season-2015/16.

"If Plushenko shows that age does not prevent him from continuing to ride, it is a good example for the figure skating - Cinquanta said. - Because it means that the skater is not required to finish his career in the 22-23 years, as often happens. So it is better to see Plushenko active athlete than not. "

Evgeni Plushenko is confident that Beijing will worthily hold Olympics-2022

On Friday, during the 128th IOC Session, which runs from July 31st to August 3rd in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Beijing was chosen as the capital of the Winter Olympics in 2022.

"Now I am in Beijing, to perform in support of this application. See, where I'm - there is always a victory, so apparently I bring good luck" - said Plushenko to agency "R-Sport" over the phone. - "China is a strong and developing country, one of the strongest. I see here how is developing the sport, site, people. All is great, I congratulate them. In 2008 they had a cool summer Olympics, and I am sure that the Winter will hold at the same level. I'm glad to be here and today I will be happy to skate for the Chinese public."

The athlete, who in November will turn 33 years of age, considers unrealistic the possibility to compete at the Beijing Olympics.
"I think that I first need to train and prepare for real events. This is probably the (Olympics) in 2018. While in 2022, I'll probably come here as a guest" - said Plushenko.

Wow, he is active!

I imagine the scream and enthusiasm of Chinese audience. I was surprised to see how big excitement he causes at live.
Carmina Burana is just amazing! It’s engraved in my memory. This piece really suits him, especially, his life history. I also hope someone will upload the videos at China shows!

It's good for China he has attitude to support the Beijing Olympic. He is the man who is most loved by Olympics.
(Li Zijun is so sweet! I love to see skaters who can be taken photos with him. They all look happy to be with their idol.)

I’m glad his delegation to figure skate is appraised.

I’m surprised to read it. That’s the thing I felt most to see him. Strong and burning. This summer was happy time for me to see him for the first time. I’ve heard about him reading a lot of reports but he was much more supreme in many ways.
