Hello my fellow Plushy fans.

I'm so depressed! Nikita Sarnovsky has missed out on Novice Nationals 😭 I feel like an utter idiot because I mentioned in the Moscow Novice Championships thread that sometimes his FS goes to heck and what happened? He managed a 3A then everything fell apart. I feel like I personally jinxed him. I'm aware that's ridiculous but it still feel crummy. Poor Nikita!

All in all, not a very good day 😞 there's also that TV1 Cup with Zhenya Med and Alina Z as team captains. Ted's going to commentate and Sasha T, Aliona, Anna S, Kamila, Daria U and Liza T are the ladies entries. I was excited at first she then I realised...how absolutely awkward it will be. How can Plushy even show up? How can he be around Alina Z who thinks he's a moron trying to cause trouble between her and Eteri? How can he be around Zhenya Med after saying he didn't think she'd win the Olympics (and she didn't, the worst experience of her life)? How can he face Eteri who no doubt thinks he's still the biggest fraud in existence? Maybe coaches aren't invited. I hope not.

Well, that's my tale of woe. I have to go to bed so no links today... maybe tomorrow.

Until next time.

Awww, don't take it to heart and let it spoil your enjoyment of the team event. :console: Plushy received much harder pushback before (Olympics 2010 or 2014, anyone?) and he's not the type to give a fig about it. And neither should we for that matter!

Enough about that though, I'm still working on linking up Plushy's programs in the Media section and I have found a Holy Grail...

This is Plushy's FS in Vancouver...but! It is the British Eurosport Commentary version! And what a difference a commentary team can make! Instead of Scott and Sandra spending 4.5 minutes dragging the defending Olympic champion who's only had like 6 months preparation, you have the British Eurosport Uncles mostly being quiet and letting us watch the program.

And one of them - Chris, I think? - certainly believed Plushy had it. The crowd enjoyed it too! Once again, you have to wonder what NBC was watching...all that talk about jump, jump, jump then nothing? It's amazing how your mind misremembers after hearing something enough times...Plushy did jumps after one of his step sequences! And his spins were actually pretty good! And it goes without saying he sold the Heck out of it. Phoned it in, my butt.

I'm not saying he deserved gold (although I think he sorta did), but this memory so many have, of an arrogant man who just came in, did the bare minimum and then demanded a gold? Nope, not true at all.

I think that's why I get defensive about Plushy, I feel like new fans will get the wrong idea and not appreciate all he did and how good he was. Which makes me sad...I smiled the whole way through that Tango Amore FS, it was so enjoyable to watch!

Do watch it and share your thoughts :)
Objectively, in this Tango Amore Plushy was still that charming performer, but technically his jumps were under his usual level. IIRC, he was the last to skate in the FS, and I could strongly feel his nervousness even through the big screen. At that nerve-racking moment something was really uncontrollable and unpredictable, but basically he pulled off a clean skate and finished his third Olympic journey on a high note, with hurt pride and deep sorrow, or rather indescribable bitterness, though. Obviously Plushy had been always believing that the final victory would definitely belong to him so long as he performed all the technical elements as planned in both SP and LP, including 2 quads, but things were not that simple as he thought. After the SP score came out, his angry look told everything. On the other hand, I think Mishin and he made a strategic mistake in the FS layout. If they had added that double loop to one of the combos, the final results would have been quite different.

About these Olympics, I will always remember his emotional & touching exhibition performance to "Je Suis Malade", from which you can really enjoy his spectacular and breathtaking skating, just so beautiful but heartbreaking at the same time! 😢

With regard to those beautiful cottages which imo only exist in some fairytales, I can only say that Plushy does care about his students' wellbeing, despite being a little too comfortable, 😃 but this is who Plushy really is, and he will never change his character for anyone, not even for Yana. Poor Yana... 🤣 I certainly want to see his large investment paying off in the end.

Still, I am not quite sure whether Plushy's painstaking efforts will change anything in the Russian Judging System. Maybe I am wrong. Hopefully things will change for the better after those senior officials of the Federation leave their posts.

Take it easy, anonymoose. :console: Plushy is a strong force to be reckoned with in this sport, and no one can deny it, including his detractors. He will earn his own name in this brand-new field with time going by. I have full confidence in his abilities. :)

Awww thank you for your kind words, Sweet Dream! I really must work on my positivity. I'm one of those "what if it all goes wrong" types.

I just hope Plushy succeeds, even if I feel like he kind of jumped the gun taking on Sasha and Aliona. There seems to be so much resentment towards him for that. Like "Who does he think he is? Thinking he can do better than Eteri and her team?" Most coaches were probably coaching for a decade at least before taking on big stars. I was hoping he'd focus on Sofia Titova and Kirill Sarnovsky :) I mean he still is, but there's so much attention on how Sasha and Aliona are going and what the Academy is doing wrong or right (mostly wrong it seems so far :( )

Yes! I'm a bit disappointed at not actually finding NBC Commentary of "Je Suis Malade", Scott (who I was a bit unfair to) was amazed and I think Sandra Bezic was too stunned for words (and so she should have been!) It was truly a masterpiece. 🥰

Anyway! I'm feeling better and I have links!

I feel something similar ... but ... Sasha and Aliona came to Plushy because Eteri had other favorites. I'm convinced they didn't feel good there. If Evgheni had not received them, he would have gone elsewhere. He received them and offered them the best conditions. If I don't succeed, it's not his fault.

First, Trusova and Kostornaya are not someone's personal belongings, but two independent girls with sober minds and decent wits. With the help of their parents, they can make any decision that is considered beneficial to their skating career. In other words, they have the right to choose their own coaches. Of course some commercial interests cannot be excluded behind these transfers, especially in Trusova's case.

Secondly, Plushy has invested a large sum of money in his own rinks not just for training beginners, but also for attracting many more high-level skaters from both home and abroad. He is just providing very good living & training conditions for them, but the final choice is in their hands. The lack of coaching experience does not necessarily mean Plushy is not a good coach. Technically he is a master.

And last but not least, those online resentful attacks on Plushy only show that they are taking great pleasure in his personal suffering, nothing about this sport. Plushy is always a fearless fighter, who will not hesitate a moment to fight his way through till the bitter end.

Indeed...but it does seem that at least for some the fact Plushy is just starting out disqualifies him from taking on top students. Like he actually should have refused to take them on that basis, but what coach would do such a thing? Would any other coach no matter how new ever be expected to turn skaters of Sasha and Aliona's calibre down? If he had how would it reflect on the Academy? It would have been embarrassing for all involved as it would have shown not just a lack of belief of Plushy in his own skills but also in those of his team. It would have totally messed up the Academy, which I guess would be no problem to them.

That sounds like I'm a weirdo conspiracy nut, but the point stands, no coach who's serious about their career would turn down students like Sasha and Aliona, nor should they have to.

Like I probably am being ridiculous and oversensitive, but it really drives me nuts that people will claim to have no ill-will towards Plushy, but at the same time expect him to do things no other coach would be expected to do. Then when I call them out on it they act totally offended like I'm accusing them for no reason.

Maybe I should just ignore that thread...I recently discovered I'm ignoring the Russian Ladies thread and I didn't even realise :laugh2: What's even funnier is I'm unable to unignore it. Perhaps the board realised I couldn't be trusted in there. Good call, board.

Anyway, good news from the Moscow Novice Championships, Sofia Titova won the elder age girls!

Also in light of Sasha Trusova'a new sponsor Lacroix watches here's a reminder that Plushy also once had a watch company sponsor him

Alas only 200 were made so no chance of making a purchase. ;)

Righto better wrap this up I haven't done any of my jigsaw puzzle today!

Thanks for the info! I didn't know the Swiss made a watch for Plushy..
I know! I only found out because when I became a fangirl I read everything and anything on Plushy

Hello fellow Plushy fans!

I kinda did something I'm proud of, but feel I shouldn't be, but I still am :laugh2:

I told myself to ignore this thread, bit someone left an opening I just couldn't let it pass:

Thanks for doing the good work! I really try to stay out of the more heated discussions, since I don't want to stir up even more drama, but some claims (like never was a skater praised by a ballerina before) just need to be answered! :thank:
I did it for the pettiest if reasons though...I wanted to see if the very fact a ballerina (one of the world's most famous at that) complimented Plushy would make some of their heads go 🤯

Are the Bolshoi Ballerinas a reputable source now that one of them once praised he who must not be called a coach? 😈

Aliona is back on the ice rink ... she looks fit and full of energy. SuperAliona!
I saw that in the Academy's stories yesterday, but I'm never sure if I can link stories properly.

She is looking good though, nice to see she's recovered.

In other news my mic drop didn't work as well as hoped  I wonder though, do the detractors know Plushy really did take ballet classes as a kid and I think got an invite to the Mariinsky? That's why he has the arm movements he does.

Speaking of ballet, Plushy accompanied Yana to the Bolshoi the other day!

Well I better be off, it's a public holiday in Aus so I don't have work but it's after noon and I really should get out of my PJs :laugh2:

Until next time fellow Plushy fans!

Hello fellow Plushy fans!

I come with a conundrum...

So I was browsing on Insta as you do and one of the stories my new favourite skater Yaroslav Paniot posted was an article on one of those Russian sports news sites and it had a photo of him and a photo of Plushy. I was immediately curious! What could it be about? Yaro hadn't linked it so off I went to take a look.

And er...it's not good. :( Apparently, Yaroslav idolised Plushy as a kid but then Plushy ignored him when they crossed paths at some sports camp and that ended that.

Now I feel like I'm in a really awkward spot since I set up Yaroslav's fanfest and the article was actually an interview with other interesting stuff in it (trust a news website to highlight that one part, the article is even entitled "I idolised Plushenko and then I met him" - and then for some bizarre reason they posted that bit of the article just by itself as an article all on its own...just in case you missed Plushy being a prima Dona who snubs adoring baby skaters or something? Your guess is as good as mine.) So I feel like...I should post it, because it's an interview, but I really don't want to! But if I don't and someone else does I'll look like a poor sport for not linking it :(

You've put me in a really hard spot, Yaro! :(

What do you think I should do fellow fans?

A true fan does not give up an idol so easily. Plushy is generally a very nice guy. Maybe he had a bad day or maybe he didn't see it. Maybe he's not really an Evgheni fan. My dear, I think you have to do what your heart tells you to do

Hello fellow Plushy fans!

I come with a conundrum...
I understand how you feel! Back in the days, I loved both Plushy and Joubert (still do 🥰) - I'm just glad that back then there weren't any internet forums (which I knew of), or my head would have imploded over all the fan wars.
Don't worry too much about it! If you feel uncomfortable linking the interview in Paniot's FF, just skip it. At the sports camp in question there were probably dozens of baby skaters dying to meet their idol Plushy, he simply didn't have the time for deep personal chats with all of them. And then news outlets tend to exaggerate their stories to gain more clicks, so I wouldn't read too much into the whole thing.
Hang in there, I really love your diligent updates about all things Plushy!

Well actually it's a bit confusing since it looks like it wasn't actually that long ago, I was over at the FSO Russian message board (where they're chatting about it) and it seems like it would have been in 2016...so Yaro would have been about 19 - and Plushy was no longer competiting.

Plus Yaro posted a photo of the article with no comment so it doesn't look like he thinks he was misquoted or whatever.

I guess I feel bummed because depending on the way you look at it it makes either Plushy look bad, or Yaro look bad. This is probably my black and white thinking at work though :p I gotta work on that!

Hang in there, I really love your diligent updates about all things Plushy!

In less fun news apparently TV1 heard my b*tching and have actually invited T Tarasova to be a judge at their team competition. :( (Maybe only in the jump competition?)

Seriously, TV1? I guess they do what to make it as dramatic as possible, but why at Plushy's expense? 🙄

I know, I know I'm being silly, the figure skating world does not revolve around Plushy, Moose (slaps own hand) still a pain though. I'm just worried if Sasha T and Aliona don't do as well as hoped the backlash will be nasty.

Oh and of course there'll be no credit given if they DO do well.

I really love Sasha T's skating, her quads, her sunshiny self, but Plushy's really doing a thankless task being her coach (well, that's not entirely true, he does get paid I guess), same with Aliona.

On the plus side, Sasha T have an interview that was shown on Match TV.

@Magill kindly gave a rough translation:

I love that she's enjoying her cottage! 🥰 Plus she has her mother and dog(s) so she's not all alone there or anything.

Hopefully in worrying for nothing and everyone will have fun at the Team Competition.
