And although Zhenya isn't in the top 3 in her country, both she and Rika have the same goal. Rika is technically stronger but she's also lucky that the low competition in her country has allowed her time to develop her technique. On the other hand, for Russian girls due to high internal competition this is stressful. For Zhenya, the stress of internal competition in the national team will now be added to the stress of competition with a strong foreign rival in training. Of course, in Russia she had competition in training but this new situation is different. As for Orser, it will be interesting to see how he does so that they can both achieve their goals, which are the same. Because it's clear that this situation isn't comparable to the situation of Yuzuru and Javier. And if he thinks it's the same, he makes a mistake and unfortunately someone will be affected by it.
....
What is it that so different abt Evgenia & Rika situation and Javier & Yuzuru?
Boyang Jin was supposed to come last year & he would have been Yuzuru's main rival. Similar situation.
1) Orser & Tracy Wilson choose carefully the right personalities to take in. Another coach, a friend of Orser, said both of them decide who to take in, not just Orser.
2) Similarities : Javier was older, more senior. Yuzuru was the young protege.
Both Javier & Yuzuru havent won their 1st WC yet 2012 till 2014 OG.
Both had 4T, with Javier already having the 4S.
Javier's generous, relaxed personality helps with the situation. Yuzuru's respect & politeness helps too.
Evgenia is senior to Rika. Rika is the young top contender.
Evgenia has her 2 WC titles, Rika hasnt won hers yet.
Both havent landed a quad in competition.
Evgenia has trained side by side with her top rival before(Zagitova), its not like she was her previous coach's only top student. Evgenia will know how to handle herself, she's mature enough.
Rika seems a sweet girl, and of course the very polite Japanese way. She has also trained with a rival, Satoko(Japan's top female before Rika), before Satoko went to Lee Barkell.
Rika will know how to conduct herself with a rival who is more senior(as in showing the appropriate respect).
Its not like Javier & Yuzuru training together didnt have its tension. It did, Orser handled it. They had separate training sessions, even at a different rink.
What Orser wants is open communication if one is unhappy.
A forumer remarked why Javier was the one who went outside the TCC rink though he is senior. Well, by then Yuzuru is a OG champ, 2X WC. After 2014 OG, there were fans who tried to get on the same bus/train with Yuzuru to catch a glimpse of him. Sometimes, his coaches had to fetch him to the rink, to avoid the fans.
Remember too, Orser lost Gogolev as his student due to spending a lot of time coaching Evgenia when she 1st arrived.
With Orser & TCC current reputation(OG Gold last 3 Olympics) rivals training together is unavoidable. Cos lots of students, elite level students, are eager to get in.
