Frank Carroll has passed away

It's definitely something that if you aren't expecting it, it can take you by surprise. I hope you had a wonderful experience when you were volunteering. In my case, growing up in the sport and being involved in it to different degrees and roles, I don't really flinch anymore and nothing really takes me by surprise (unless it's super bad).

Frank was always so sincere and real with his students and as I said above, had the respect of many of them and kept in touch way past their active competitive careers in the sport, and this is what I'd always witnessed. The man earned and deserved all the respect in the world.
Boston Worlds 2016 was incredible! Frank did come to my table asking for directions to some place or other; met Max Aaron, Alisa Cziezny, Maddie & Evan, Javier Fernandez, Mao Asada
the stunning Russian pairs team whose names escape me (she was blond perfection and he a mountain with red hair) and more .. a visual and sensory treat. Ashley won Silver, and I saw Julian Yee live tho missed Yuzaru his fans were amazing!!
We were giving out start order sheets before the Men’s FS at the Garden and a huge football type guy with black curly hair came up to me wearing a headband with Winnie-the-Pooh ears🤭 I said: You wouldn’t be a Hanyu fan by chance? He laughed.. such a memorable experience ..
OT yet again.. apologies💕

I believe the Russian pairs team you were recalling was Tarasova/Morozov. ;) I am so glad you had a wonderful experience. We probably ran into each other at some point but didn't realize it. Boston Worlds was amazing and I'm looking forward to the next one!

Okay, back on topic to honoring the legend that is Frank Carroll.

^ "On a particularly difficult training day, I broke down. Frank told me that he never competed at the Olympic Games, and maybe didn’t ever feel the kind of pressure that I was under… but when he looks back at his life as a skater, he hardly remembers the crowning moments of his career. What he remembers most are days in an empty ice rink, where he skated and dreamed what might be. He recalled those days as the best time of his life. Looking back, of course I remember some of our winning moments together, but Frank was right (as he always was)... the private moments, with just Frank and me training... working out every detail, drilling elements and dreaming of what could be, are the moments that make my eyes well up." -- Evan Lysacek.
