She basically whirled into competitive skating for a comparatively short period of time .. got her medals and got out. I don't blame her for this, she just didn't stick around long enough to claim the type of accolades as some others.
I'm sure that doesn't matter to her though. She has clearly stated in the past that the OGM meant everything to her. And considering what she has sacrificed with her health because of that, I'm inclined to believe her.

With all due respect to Jenna how did they come to that replacement? I would think an American would have that position. Why not Bebe?nymkfan51 said:

It goes by Worlds placement. It's not a situation where you replace an American with an American. This is an ISU assignment, therefore the next person in line with no assignment and a world ranking gets it (which is the fair thing to do).

Both Jenna and Bebe are scheduled for Skate America. It will be a good chance for one or the other to show she belongs in the top rank. Besides Michelle and Sasha, they will have to beat Yoshie Onda and Elena Sokolova to make the podium in Atlantic City.
Back to Jenny Kirk. If she wants to pursue a career in broadcasting, one thing she will have to work on is her voice. It is quite light and girlish at the present.

I disagree that Tara 
is gone and forgotten. Even though her career was brief, I think she is still recognized and known both among figure skating fans and the general public.
If you gave a "name recognition" test to randomly selected Americans, I bet most people would know that Tara Lipinski was a famous figure skater, like Kristi Yamaguchi and Dorothy Hamill.

I think Jenny means she is pursuing film producing or directing. Her dad is in this field.
One post suspects that financial difficulty might be the reason forcing Jenny to retire. I think that's not the case. Jenny is from a wealthy New England town. Her family may not super rich, but can support her skating and her taking from world famous coaches. But Jenny does not have the one most important thing in her skating career since her mother passed away: she does not have at least one parent helping her in everyday life.

I thought that too. But apparently it is the ISU giving out invitations. Since Bebe doesn't get as much chance to skate internationally, she just doesn't get the privilege that the one British skater can get. But that's the way it is in Skateland.mzheng said:

And Tara being forgotten? Whatever that's about. In the limited appeal there is for figure skating, I think she will be remembered by the general public for a few more years. How many of them remember Shatsie Dykstra(sp)?

You have to balance out the interests of the skaters from smaller feds verses the bigger feds. The US already hosts a GP and can invite more of its local skaters to it. Skaters from GB etc don't have that luxury of a guaranteed invite.
Just hope Bebe does well at the event she has and then she'll get more opportunities. It's not as though Emily has more events than Bebe but she takes every opportunity for what it's worth. So far Bebe hasn't really shown that and she's been a senior skater for a few years.

There must be some basic flaw in Bebe's skating that non-expert television viewers like me just can't see. I thought she deserved clear third at Nationals last year. But judges everywhere very consistently give her low marks across the board. What are they seeing that I'm not? Does she have weak edges or something, that the average viewer can't see?soogar said:
It's true that she does not have that ethereal grace thing going for her. But neither does Irina Slutskaya, and the judges like her just fine. For that matter, both Michelle and Sasha have scaled back on the old ethereal grace business lately -- perhaps forced to do so by the CoP.

The first is true. But I read somewhere the invitations does not go strictly by ISU rankings and worlds placements, there is a range within the range the host country can chose whoever they wants to invite....the very similar topic had been disscussed around several FS board through out last season, when both Cohen and Kwan 'withdraw' from Skate Canada.soogar said:

About Jenny's voice...it's not just 'girly' as in young it's sort of high pitched but flat and has lots of 'i sound cogested' things going on...it would need work/training...but it would be a blast to see her commentating.
