Jenny quitting?

 :) ah.... why deny yourself the oh so obvious.

Remember my "Anyone but Kwan" philosophy from a few years back? Well, it applies to Nationals. Even if it's Cohen, who really isn't all that much better IMO. She's been around for quite a long time now (and for some you folks out there that might not understand, this means I'm starting to get tired of her). I'd much rather Kimmie win (or someone else, like Emily Hughes (Fat chance there, right?). I WAS secretly hoping for Kirk though :frown: ).

I know the American crowd. If Kimmie comes up with a 3A3Tcombo the house will go wild for 10 minutes. That's a lot of points which SC and MK can not match in their combos. And remember, clean combos set the stage for high PCS scores.

Kwan looks to me like she's been fading. If there is anything in surprising us it will have to be this season.

Cohen at this point in time has the best shot at Irina but she can not make a mistake - absolutely none.

I think Kimmie more than Carolina can pull off a Sarah Hughes. All the above is JMO.

And that's about as unlikely as the sky falling down right now... Maybe she'll go for the 3A, which still turns heads. Maybe, just maybe an upset here?

No surprise here...ITA. However, I really do think she's capable of a resurgence of some kind. I mean, she committed to the Olympics. Why bother if you don't feel like putting in the effort? I really do think she would have retired otherwise. She knows she has no chance if she sticks to the S.Q. (or does she??) Will it be enough? I'm not going to count her out just yet.

Yes. Definitely. But things change- fast.

Now here's where I think you're backwards. (of course, JMO as well). Carolina, unlike Meissner HAS international experience, and is coming from the SAME angle that Hughes did. 3rd place in worlds the previous year, Olympics in home country, similar skating style (!). So I say it's Kostner that could pull something like this off. Or maybe a Japanese lady?

I am sure your anyone but Kwan to win at nationals philosophhy is totally intact ;) I speculate that philosophy has flourished into worlds and olys not just limited to nats

I'm starting to get tired of her (Cohen)

Ah... That river in Egypt again

Ah, but at worlds and Olys, Kwan is no longer winning, so what's your point here? ;)

Damn straight.

nationals

Kimmie is not going to be landing 3axel/3toe, and she'll screw up if she tries. She can barely land the single 3axel right now. That one at the last National was so cheated it shouldn't have counted.

The last and only time a woman landed the 3axel/3toe was Midori Ito. Somehow, I don't think Kimmie will be landing that next year. I'm not saying that she never will, I don't know. But next year it's just not gonna happen.

Where did these rumours even COME from? This seems impossible to me (that she can do this).

About a "cheated" landing- maybe (since she sort of "twisted" out of it), but she didn't fall on it- it was a bit shaky, but she stayed up nonetheless. As far as I'm concerned it's a 3A.

(ETA: Funny how a thread turns from Jennifer Kirk retiring to a debate about Kimmie and whether she can win with a "killer" 3A/3T.

I haven't checked this site just about a day and such surprising news announced. I guess competing and touring are not Jenny's goals. She really wants to make it to Olympics. Now it seems impossiblle even she has been working so hard for so many years.

There have been so many rumours about Kimmie's 3 axel-3 toe. All I know is if Midori could only land this combination in practice , there's no way in hell Kimmie is going to do this in competition. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Kimmie did a 2 axel-2toe combo that got ratified as a 3-3....

As for Jennie, it seems like such a waste of time and money to choreograph new programs for the season and not use them.

Well, technically it's not IMPOSSIBLE, just extremely UNLIKELY...

Well, this is just terrible news. First Ann Patrice and now Jenny.

Jenny Kirk is the first famous figure skater I ever met in person, at Skate America 2002. What a charmer! Figure skating, more than any other sport, is driven by the personalities of the individual performers. You see someone skate, you fall in love with him/her, follow his/her career, cheer the triumphs, and boo the judges when they don't do right by your favorite guy or gal, LOL. It won't be the same without Jen.

To me, there was always something a little bit wistful about her. I don't think she really wanted to leave Boston. But she felt that she owed it to herself to push as hard as she could to realize the potential of her talent. She did not like living in Detroit, away from all her friends, even though Detroit-area skating fans took her into their hearts. I guess California wasn't the answer for her either.

She has a marvelous competitive career to look back on, as world junior champion and U.S. senior medallist and world team member. I'm sure she is not finished with skating altogether (that would be too sad to think about right now).

All good things come to an end. At 20, in the peak of health, a 10!!! on anybody's "best looking" list, she's got the world on a string, sittin' on a rainbow. I'm pretty sure we haven't heard the last of Jenny Kirk!

(Now, about that third Olympic spot: Go Amber!!!.)

I don't get all this speculation about "politics." Am I just a babe in the woods?

Who benefits politically if one skater rather than another makes the Olympic team? Are there "red states" in USFS lobbying for Kimmie against the "blue states" who like Bebe? Does any money change hands? Power? Prestige?

As for the retirement issue- Some lyrics of Green Day's "Time Of Your Life" (I love this song) seems to come to my mind:

"It's something unpredictable
But in the end it's right
I hope you had the time of your life"

Now a 3A / 3T combo is something I will be VERY excited to watch. Where did this rumor come from, just out of curiosity? Kimmie seemed to struggle with the 3A last year (and that is NOT a criticizm - she gets bravery points from me for even trying it in competition!). 3A/3T???? If so, good for her. If not........

How about a 4S / 4L for Sasha, or Mao, or Yu Na, or Kwan, etc. etc.?

:)

Here are the lyrics of the entire song. See how eerily similar the situations are

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time

It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth it was worth all the while

It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.

Same here. Inquiring minds would like to know. And yes, I would love to see that from her. Maybe with that she could beat Kwan and Cohen...(or is this just wishful thinking?)

Now a 4S/4L for:

Sasha: No way. She couldn't do it with three revolutions, why should I believe she can do it with four? This just won't happen for her.

Mao: I dunno. It's possible I guess but it would be really tough. I say no to this one as well.

Yu Na: I haven't seen her so no comment.

Kwan- - enough said

Jenny left the Boston area to skate in Detroit and be near her sister. Then she left Detroit to go to CA and be near Evan. Could it be there is trouble in paradise and with all the hype Kimmie is getting Jenny may feel it just isn't worth all the work now that everything is pre-decided. JMO

It is JMO that the third spot for the Olympics has been decided and Kimmie got the nod.

I always liked Jenny so I feel very bad that she is going to retire. I think she should get into advertising with that beautiful face. She would do well advertising cosmetics. Good luck with whatever she decides to do in the future.
