Medvedeva leaving Eteri

She represented Russia at Euros, mid January 2018, She should await till mid January 2019 with no international competitions in between. Too risky.

It's Russia man. Everyone and their mothers got to have a say. I'm still waiting for TAT, Plushenko, and best of all, the madame Eteri herself :)

TAT actually said she doesn't know anything about it and people should ask Eteri and Zhenya yesterday or the day before yesterday. Feels like a first for her, not giving a hot take on something like this... but Raf chiming like it's already been confirmed makes me think Orser's really happening.

This is strange. She is usually very fond of Evgenia... I doubt she didn't know at all, but the good thing is that she gave no commentary and left the situtation unfold naturally between Eteri/Zhenya(and RusFed)

I can't find it right now, but I think it was right after the news first broke, so maybe she didn't think she should comment on it before the people involved do. Can't imagine TAT really wouldn't know something like this. Especially with her and Evgenia both being on that Ice Age show right now.

Unless the Federation imposes a gag order, which is probably the best option in this entire mess.
They will want to make this seem like an amicable split so they won't bother Zhenya and they'll let her go, and we'll get the usual PR blah blah blah about how she's grateful, she's exploring new things, etc and they both keep their mouths shut after that. Well, at least that is probably what they want, it's the best solution for them and there are benefits for all three sides so I will be really surprised if it escalates, at least now. Later, who knows but it won't matter so much then.

Why wasn’t it done this way from the start, with the usual PR blah blah?

Does not seem reflect well on Evgenia to blindside her coach of 11 years. Doesn’t sound also that the RusFed can be so easily manipulated just like that, since they seem so powerful.

Ever think that they weren't going to let her go? The idea that somehow she would just say she wants out and everyone would nod their heads and be happy about it is horribly naive.
She very well should think of herself first.
And yeah, she has the trump card. RusFed does not want another public scandal with Eteri's school. They have had enough.

Eteri wasn’t blindsided. There were social media changes in their group prior to this announcement indicating they knew this was coming. The rusfed probably thought that they could pressure her to change her mind but by announcing it publicly she was taking control of the situation. Eteri was surely involved in these talks and aware of Zhenya looking to change coaches.

This thread is better than Korean drama...

Whaa.... Med going to skating for Armenia?!! :drama:

What?!! She may NOT goto Orser afterall?

Noooo....Wakaba is now NOT confrmed? :palmf:

Wait...Tat knows NOthing?!

Whoo...Eteri doing the dignified elegant lady thing

While... the rest of the world is more feeling this. :eekn:

Wow... You mean...she may go to Orser afterall? :eeking:

Meantime... Alina and Zhenya is more like chilled to their 'artistic' transformation to save ISU/Russia Figureverse.

Quite honestly, If she is to considering skate for Armenia in 4 years, She might as well skate for China!!!
China need her and will pay everything first class, and she will benefit from home advantage at Beijing 2022 skating to Turandot as the little white Jasmin flower.
China is great at copying things and make it bigger and better, I am sure they will learn plenty from Sochi. :laugh2:

Gotta compliment Evgenia: the whole figure skate world is talking about her and she's chilling in some gym (see her Instastory:laugh:)

Thanks for the perspective.

Blindsided by the annoucement/timing of the annoucement.

Quick summary on what goes on at TCC:

- Evgenia might go there (reliable sources have said yes, but still waiting for official confirmation)

- TSL started tweeting that Wakaba will be coached by Brian (a few weeks prior they interviewed Doug Haw who's friends with Brian Orser, so they have inside sources. On the other hand, I don't consider Doug a reliable source in up-to date topics, as seen on his takes about Hanyu's future (absolutely wrong and unrealistic), so maybe he just meant, that Wakaba will be there during the summer, as her current coach has connections to TCC. Personally, I think Wakaba's skating style is perfect for TCC and Shae-Lynn and would be quite disappointed if she didn't go ..

- Boyang might train under Brian. An interview with HongBo Zhao confirmed, that they are trying to arrange something for Boyang. Whatever the arrangement, his current coach will go with him to TCC, as they are very close and know each other since
Boyang was a child. Personally, I hope it's long-term with both Brian and Boyangs current coach coaching him at TCC. Polishing needs time. Short-term doesn't make any sense. And I like the idea of his current coach going with him as it would't tear Boyang into a completely new environment. Also, if he gets injured under Brian or doesn't improve as much, fans can't blame Brian 100%.

- Conrad Orzel changed coaches to Brian.

It's going to interesting to see how much her pcs will fall. The Russian Fed isn't going to happy about their biggest figure skating superstar leaving their coaches

Her PCS would have fallen either way, as Alina and the younger skaters with higher tech will be higher on the fed's priority list. See Yulia's PCS after Sochi. With Brian as her coach, she won't have as much of a PCS drop internationally, as she'd have had without him ...
