Men - Free Program

Having seen Chan's programs on the ISU site, I would say that his main problem with the FS is that there is far too much choreography and it is beyond his ability to execute and be able to concentrate on technical elements as well. I think even Jeff Buttle would have struggled a bit at first with the layout of this program.

Chan is only 16 and it is admirable that he stuck with the program as choreographed, but it is far too busy and it exhausted him. I don't understand why his coach didn't get the choreographer (Lori Nichol) to simplify parts of it. I know that Wilson has simplified choreography for Jeff Buttle when he has run into the same kinds of difficulties with a program as Chan is having.

I really enjoyed watching both of Patrick Chan's energetic footwork sequences in his Junior FS and am selfishly glad that he didn't simplify them too significantly. ;)

Chan's second planned lutz that he fell on (downgraded to a double and a mere 0.67 points) was supposed to be a 3Z+2T-2R combo (he received 0 GOE and 9.68 points for this combo in the 2nd half of the program at the France GP), but it was moved to earlier in the junior version of his FS because most of the 30 seconds that was cut appeared to be from the beginning of the slow section (a significant rest spot).
