But the discussion is not on whether face value is taken. It is on whether Dr. Yu in this case is taking a risk of violating professional ethics, or is he that incompetent and not be able to correctly diagnose an injury. In order for the convoluted conspiracy to work, you have to ASSume that Dr. Yu is either unethical or incompetent. And what is his incentive to do so?? If you look at his CV online, he is on faculty at a major university, he has research and private practice and is a consultant to usfsa. So n ame one reason why he wants to risks losing his medicla license??

Who's to know if he telling the truth or not? They are not going to make him take a lie-detector-test. With all these credentials, who's going to question him? Not I said the fly, not me said the flea!! They are going to take his word at face value.

But some people maybe can't bear the possibility that MK (or SC) might pull something (no matter what it might be) to better themselves when it comes time for the Olympics.

BTW, you just contradict yourself, in an earlier post you said, it is their loss for not going to GP, and get experience in COP. Then of course that contradict an even earlier post that you think not participating in GP is a better deal.

.

 Lie detector tests??
I think most employers take the docs diagnosis at face value. If the MDs lie, they are taking the risk of losing their medical license. So my reasoning is why would he want to lie and take the risk. So what is the benefit for him to lie? That benefit has to be very rewarding for him to take the risk. Can ya name a benefit so huge that will tempt him to take such a risk????

More to the point -- unless it is necessary to prevent injury, can anyone name a benefit to MIchelle from skipping the GP this season?

This argument is getting boring, guys.

I know, I know, I don't have to read it.

But I do. As a moderator I have to read every thread, just to make sure people aren't cussing at each other. How about a little mercy?

One reason, she don't want to show off her new hinged boots until the Nationals.  Probably that's how she got injured. Just joking:) :)

Bad on 'em if the skaters have this attitude. You should be eager to beat your biggest rivals in head-to-head competition at that time of year -- or any time!
Except for the reputation that GPF has of being the "consolation" prize. It's like when they announce the "Lieder Singer" prize at Cardiff -- the singer "knows" that this means they are first runner up, and that the Grand Prize is going somewhere else. (Even after they gave both to same singer one year.)

You think Kwan is injured, so her orhtopod and usfsa pass your lie detector test? Just joking :) :)

If I have to think of reason, actually none, she needs the COP exposure.

your ASSumptions as you repeatedly write of my post say more about you than me. AS RD said, the timing is suspicious, esp for Sasha.

As far as kwanatacism goes, you're an exemplar. I find myself annoyed after reading your post. No we can't dx. But I know a lot about Orthopedics, orthopods, pain, ligament and muscle/soft tissue injuries from my own experience. Belive me.

I'll bet you a million dollars Dr. Yu 1) did no diagnostic tests because their are none that orthpods use 2) doesn't practice AK as they don't believe in it or educate thenselves beyond what PT can do.

Remember, Michelle pays him.

As for conspiracy stories-what a leap of imagination. Doctors lie all the time. After 20 years of much professional and private experience, I know that.

Aids has blood tests and you sound like a space alien. BTW, I get that you're calling me an ***. So much repitition isn't necessary.

She can rest up for Nats...as usual

I don't even have that much experience (due to my age) and I know this, too. (Ever listen to the news?) I don't see what's so shocking about doctors lying...oh, the agony...

Kwanticism, because, I dare to examine your theory about the Kwan, Yu, and usfsa conspiracy :scowl:

What are the "we" you are referring to?? Are you referring to yourself and people who practice your profession??

But I know a lot about Orthopedics, orthopods, pain, ligament and muscle/soft tissue injuries from my own experience. Belive me.
oh, I believe you absolutely, if you are talking about your own experience, but you haven't share any of your personal experience so far.

I'll bet you a million dollars Dr. Yu 1) did no diagnostic tests because their are none that orthpods use
What makes your so sure to bet one mil? I don't know whether orthopods do or not, I was asking you to dig up the practice guideline from the orthopods for diagnosis and treatment of strained ligament, then we can estimate whether it is more likely than not that Dr. Yu is following or ignoring practice guideline in his treatment and diagnosis of Kwan and other figure skaters.

2) doesn't practice AK as they don't believe in it or educate thenselves beyond what PT can do.
You talk as if AK is the definitive diagnosis, and miracle cure all in one, that is why I ask you what is the sensitivity and specificity of AK?

Remember, Michelle pays him.
More likely Kwan's health insurance pays him if he renders a professional service, so you mean MK bribes him. But if you are trying to say Leisure Yu is taking the risk of losing his medical license and lie for Michelle Kwan, then it does not make too much sense. Considering losing a medicl license means he will not be able to earn $$ for a loooooonnnng time, I doubt Kwan has that much money. Do you know how much an orthopod with his credential make a year, 0.5 - 2 million? Multiply that by 10 -20 years, nope IMO Michelle does not have that kind of money to bribe him. BTW, if you are so sure that Yu only cares for money at the expense of professional ethics, why wouldn't he run diagnostic tests?? Whether the tests rule in or rule out a diagnosis, he gets pay anyway.

As for conspiracy stories-what a leap of imagination.
What a leap of imagination indeed to believe that Yu, usfsa are conspiring in this.

Doctors lie all the time.
So your theory is doctors lie all the time, since Leisure Yu is a doctor therefore he lies?

After 20 years of much professional and private experience, I know that.
Be more specific please about your professional and private experience?

Aids has blood tests
Yes there are blood tests for detecting the antibodies to the HIV virus, and there are blood tests for the viral load. My point is some people have a conspiracy theory that the government purposely infect the minority population with this virus. IMO, your Kwan, Yu, usfsa conspiracy theory is as believable as the AIDS is a government conspiracy theory.

It is possible that doctors lie professionally, but when they lie professionally, they are taking a risk to lose their medical license, they are taking a risk to be disciplined by their medical board, they are taking a risk of their professional reputation. Unless they are totally stupid, I would think that they would weigh the benefits and risks before they lie professional. In this case, if people are spinning the theory that Leisure Yu is lying, then like I asked before what is the HUGE benefit that he may possibly receive for him to risk his medical license?? Just from reading his CV on the net, it seems like professionally he has a lot going for him, so what is the possible benefit given to him for him to take such a risk.

Believe there was an old post in this thread, which had been quoted couple of times. Not that I agree with.

But some people maybe can't bear the possibility that MK (or SC) might pull something (no matter what it might be) to better themselves when it comes time for the Olympics.

I read in another board, not that I agree, some post said it was because Dr. Yu is a chinese, and so is Michelle a chinese decendent.....and this type immigrated communities often do things cut the cornner. (btw, even though the post herself is an immigrant, although not from Asia, claims she knows all)....

LOL, let's get a rest. Kwan is 'evil' so she brought so much 'evil' thought from ppl no matter what she does. And every person (like this Dr. Yu) or thing she touched also become 'evil' and bring out the 'evil' thought from ppl........

Yu examins Kwan and says he can find nothing wrong, and clears Kwan to skate. Kwan continues to train and then incurs a catastrophic permanent injury that means she can never skate again at her previous level. Yu can be sued for the millions of dollars Kwan would lose as a result of his incorrect diagnosis.

Orthopods and obstetricians are the specialists most targeted by lawsuits, and they are very careful to do as many diagnostic tests as are needed to be sure that their findings are correct.

Kwan was well aware that the ISU could insist that she be examined by an ISU-appointed doctor, so having Yu perform as many tests as necessary to confirm his diagnosis would be very much to her benefit as well.

To say that Kwan and Yu are both lying and there is nothing wrong with her is a very extreme kind of prejudice. And saying she had been practicing all summer and therefore nothing could be wrong with her is nonsense---it is overpractice that causes injury, and sometimes the injury does not present with pain for many weeks.

I thought Dr. Yu was an ISU appointed doctor.

I don't think Michelle would stay off the ice for 2+weeks and then spend another month working up to her previous condition prior to the injury in an Olympic season.

MK knew she needed GP exposure this year to evaluate her programs under the new judging system. She realized that at Worlds.

If Sasha was to fake an injury, wouldn't she be wise to do it after Skate Canada so she wouldn't have to travel so far. Also it would have given her a good amount of time to prepare for Nationals. If you use common sense, you know both these girls were truly injured.

Um...

She doesn't have to endure loads of bitching that she's stealing GP spots from up and comers who need them to establish herself?

She gets a hilarious show of anti-Kwannies who will gladly go to all lengths and stoop to all lows to discredit her no matter how stupid and hateful it makes them look?

Was Sasha assigned to SC? I thought this season seeded skaters only got two assignments. Sasha's GP assignments this season are SA and EBT.

Yeah, she had SA and TEB. She pulled out of SA, and I'm not so sure we'll see her at TEB. But who knows?

Yeah they have gotten kind of hateful lately, haven't they? I've been on this board for four plus years and I've never seen it this nasty. Some of these folks need a liver pump to rid them of some of that bile.
