Nordic skating (FIN, SWE, NOR, DEN, ISL)

I put this also here about Finland's EC spot. As Matias Lindfors won the nationals and was already in the lead before, he will the one who gets the EC spots.
In women
Olivia 196,23(CS)+181,68=377,91
Iida 194,10+187,05(CS)=381,15
So spot is Iida's.
Did I miss any of Olivia's scores? Iida's is right I think.

Finland's Europeans team is already confirmed and follows the rules told in advance:

Women: Iida Karhunen
Subsitutes in order: Olivia Lisko, Linnea Ceder

Men: Matias Lindfors
Subsitutes in order: Makar Suntsev, Valtter Virtanen

ID: Juulia TurkkilaMatthias Versluis, Yuka OriharaJuho Pirinen, Daniela IvanitskiyMatthew Sperry
When I thought before Olivia will get it, at the moment it was not known Iida still got the CS spot after it because of WDs.

Looks many people internationally are waiting Finland to announce OC spot after nationals, but they will not yet do it.

Rule in singles:
At least one of the competitions must be:
- ISU GP or Challenger Series competition or OWG qualification competition or European Championship competition
- between 1.11.2025-20.1.2026
The Olympic Committee will make the selection no later than 23.1.2026. The Finnish Figure Skating Federation will submit a proposal by 20.1.2026.

Local Olympic Committee's rules are mostly to only fill international requirements, not any harsh criterias as some other federations does have.

In dance they can make the decision whenever they want because only Juulia and Matthias can be selected.

How many competitions are there between now and the deadline?
Europeans won't matter because Karhunen is the one going there.
There are two international competitions available on ISU calendar: the Sofia Trophy and the Crystal Skate.
I don’t see any Finnish skaters on the current entry list for Sofia (the deadline is today). Crystal Skate may be the final option
Will there be any valid internal competitions in January?

Spots spring 2026

The link says 2025 but the title says 2026, so they are just using old pages. Iida won't be at Sofia as she goes to Euros, so probably Olivia will.
Edit. Varalla in Finnish means substitute in English.

Sweden is hosting European Championship 2028, i´m so excited about this :party2::party2:

They made a bid for Worlds 2028 as well, so they won´t get it now, but i´m happy they got EC.

I think this is a really great time for Sweden to host it. The Nordic skating seems to be in some kind of golden era now and I hope it will continue to grow further into 2028, surely this will motivate a lot of skaters.

Here are some of my hopes and wishes before EC in Sweden:

- Milla and Nikolaj making top 10 in EC 2027, so that Sweden will have two ice dance spots at home soil. With all the junior teams they have now, the fight for a 2nd spot would be great and they would actually be able to fill the spots which is insane if you think about they had zero teams only a few seasons ago. I do think this can happen.

- This one is kinda ambitious - but it would be great if Milla and Nikolaj were serious medal contenders for 2028 as well. Maybe along with a Finnish team - O/P plans to continue right? Wouldn´t it be great with a Nordic ice dance drama? I´m hoping T/V would consider staying longer now with EC in Sweden for 2028, but that might be a stretch. This is perhaps more wishful thinking...

- I´m hoping Josefin will consider to stay for two more seasons now and end her career in 2028 with a great skate.

- Also hoping for at least two spots for either Norway, Sweden, Finland in singles. Norway was close last year in women, and I do think Finland can make it. Hopefully Sweden will be close as well, it would be great for them with two spots in women. And hopefully Andreas might bring Sweden two spots in men. They for sure will fill the spots. Would be great for Daniil to have the skate of his life in Sweden too, hopefully with a lot of Norwegian audience. It will be his 2nd senior year and with all the quads he is landing in practice now he will hopefully be a easy qualifier.

- Having my fingers crossed for great representation from Denmark also - Hopefully the siblings Babeth and Wendell can make it. And the Danish ice dance team making the minimums.

- I´m hoping Greta can find a new partner soon so that Sweden will have a pair as well and a full team in 2028.

- Icelandic pair having a great skate and result, and hopefully we will see Iceland women again!

- I´m still waiting and hoping for a pairs team for Norway or/and Ice Dance team to happen again. Sondre seems to be thriving with doing pairs elements at Disney on Ice, I really hope that EC in Sweden would make him consider making a comeback in pairs. I´m still convinced he and Camilla should team up since they both seems to be doing pairs elements for fun and they are still very much involved in skating so I can see it happen, and they used to skate for the same club...

All in all - I´m hoping and believing that this will be the greatest EC for Nordic skating at all time with the greatest representation and results we have ever seen and that will continue to create inspiration for skating in Nordic countries, and that it will be a lot of Nordic audience!

Finland's Nordics team is quite big again. At the same moment I checked I noticed, Janna is not announced to any competition this season any more. No idea what is going on with her. No article about it yet, but the team is up at fed's competition spot lists. Varalla means alternative. The list in seniors and juniors is mostly based on Nationals results, if skaters want to take part in.

Pernille With goth her JWC minimums this weekend at Sofia Trophy after delivering a good FS. She was missing it with 0.18 points before this competition, but was able to get it with 2-3 points margin. Delighted, just having a skater at JWC means there will be one more spot for JGP next season.

Daniil Valanov also took the bronze at Sofia Trophy. He was actually leading after the SP and got a new PB of 63 points, even though he popped the 3Lo into 2Lo, but he landed the 3A clean with positive GOE for the first time I think, and a good 3Lz-3T. He fell to third place after a messy FS though, he attempted the quad sal but had a hard fall on it, and the rest of the program was a struggle after that. I applaud him for consistently putting his quad into the free, in the beginning it´s going to be a risky project that won´t reward him, but so was the 3A in the beginning, but now it´s getting better and more consistent and even giving him positive GOE at occasions! Way to go Daniil :clap:

I assume most people are familiar now with that Milla got her citizenship and that SOC has given them the Olympic ticket for Milano. They didn´t reach the formal requirements but SOC gave them the "Framtidskriteriet" like Andreas, the promising athlete exception. Based on that they are a very new and promising team. The spokesperson said something about that the development they had have been incredible, and that the progress they had is faster then maybe any new ice dance teams we have seen in the world. Based on that comment there were never really a doubt they were going to give them the exception, because they are really the definition of promising. Though still, I was never sure SOC was going to see the potential like the figure skating community.

I´m really happy this was all sorted out just in time before Euros next week, they can now relax and enjoy the Championship and fuel on that extra motivation this has given them 😊

I wonder if there is any more chances for Olivia Lisko to improve her score before the selections? She won the silver at Sofia Trophy but I don´t think she got a high enough score to improve her total best.

She has Crystal skate next weekend. She told at ig she has been recently sick. She needs about 184,89 now if Iida does not get more than her SB (nationals) 194,10. If Iida gets more than that, then Olivia needs 184,89+Iidas EC score-194,10. Well both can do it, Iida is able to get more by clean skate, depends much on her PCS, and Olivia can get more than 185 by clean skate. Whoever goes, I am ok with it.

Thank you, so she can still do it. I was wondering about what was up, her scored dropped quite some since last competition but it makes sense if she has been recently sick. That would take a lot of your stamina. I have my fingers crossed for her next weekend, and also hope for Iida to have a great competition at Euros.

Between men's skate I checked the situation: Olivia has won in Romania, but by quite low score compared to level she has got, which mean Olympic spot is Iida's, Euro's did not have any affection to that.

I think it make sense also after Iidas placement at Euros, not that the placement was part of the selection critera, but for me that was hoping Olivia could make it, it seems no doubt about now that Iida is going. The good news is the 2 spots Finland got next year for Euros :) Hopefully this will cheer Olivia up a little that her chances might be better next season.

So nice that Finland got two spots for ladies next year, congrats!

Karhunen skated really well. I was in the arena for the LP, and she came and sat a couple of rows behind us, where there were already some of the Finnish contingent. She really is tiny. My sister gave her the thumbs up and applauded her - she looked very chuffed. Looking forward to watching her prgoress.

Huge congrats to Taljegard as well of course - she created such a moment. It was a pleasure to be there in person for it.

I am more delighted by the fact that there was a fierce competition till the very last stage than I am delighted or upset by the outcome. At the beginning of the season, it looked like Iida's Olympic spot was unchallenged but then... I think it's good for the sport.

It was a very good Europeans for Nordic skaters:

Women: IIda 10th place, Mia 14th place, Josefin 16th place
Ice dance: Juulia and Matthias 8th place, Yuka and Juho 12th place and Milla and Nikolaj 13th place.
Men: Andreas 12th place, Mathias made it to the free!
Pairs: Julia and Manuel 11th place in pairs
