Minja Peltonen has been added to Finland's national team list. No Janna or Nella. I wonder does Nella skate any more. Janna posted some skating videos some time ago at ig, but not for a while.
 
I don´t know if it´s okay to share here, but since Daniil doesn´t have a fan thread I thought it might be okay to share it in the Nordic skating thread.

Daniil Valanov has started a Gofundme to help with his skating finances. As some of you may remember he lost his dear father a few months ago and not unexpected this has made everything more financially challenging.

My name is Daniil, and I am a competitive figure skater from Norway. I have dedicated countless hours to training and pushing the limits of what I can achieve both on the ice and off ice. One of my biggest accomplishments has been becoming first Norwegian in history to successfully land a triple axel and quadruple jump in competition, something I am incredibly proud of.

Figure skating is not just a hobby for me it's my passion, my goal, and a huge part of who I am. Despite facing some of the most difficult challenges of my life recently, I remain determined to continue pursuing my dreams.

Three months ago, my father passed away. His loss has had a profound impact on me and my family, both emotionally and financially. As we continue to navigate through this difficult period, the costs of training, ice time, equipment, and competitions have become much harder to manage.

I am asking for your support to help me continue my figure skating journey. Every donation, no matter the size, will help me stay on the ice and keep working toward my goals. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can give.

Selma has posted from Espoon taitoluisteluklubi K7 group a photo. I noticed Annika Pellonmaa there, I don't know who the others are but I suppose it is the most talented skaters' group. I noticed that there is no Janna or Oona. In fact, It is not so long ago Janna has posted jumping videos, only a couple of weeks, so she is still skating, but no idea has she changed club or coach, or has Oona retired. I did not find any information concerning neither of them.
 
I saw elsewhere people speculating if Valtter Virtanen or Matias Lindfors will get the TBD spot and many thought there is no third option, but there is: Makar Suntsev. Also Anton Erkama is senior eligible, but I suppose he will go to JGP, as he is the only national team member in men age eligible in juniors. I think Finland has 6/7 JGP spots in men if I understood the rules right and one or two of other spots will be given to youth national team members or Matias Heinonen, who did not make it to national team but is a member of challenger group, which Finland has also. I suppose they will find enough boys as Finland usually sends so many skaters to competitions how many they can.

In women national team members who compete from GP spots are Selma Välitalo, Minja Peltonen and Lotta Artimo, who is first time age eligible in seniors. The rest are only junior age eligible. This may change, Janna has been posting skating videos so if she can give provements, she might get back to national team. But not many seniors in women and national team is smaller than it has been in years, I think.

Not skating but I tried to find out if Arttu still skates. I don't follow tiktok, but I was drifted there. I think he has had haircut and has now short hair :eek:

His name was in challengers list before, but is not there anymore and that's why I was curious if he has retired or not. No signs about that. His name is not at Pori's taitoluistelu, but it is common to change club at his age, if people go to study elsewhere. Pori is small town and there are limited possibilities to study.

Everyone wants a new style now and then, right haha? I hope he can/wants to compete even if goes to a university somewhere. I have the impression that he really loves to skate. If he loves to compete I don't know. Looking forward to hopefully seeing his new looks on ice :pray:

With Josefin retiring, that is really great. She looked to be getting better and better at the end of the season, getting her stamina back after her long break from skating, particular the stamina for the long program. I think she has a good chance of getting the Worlds min, she already does 3Lo-3T, 3T-3T and I think she did a 3F-3T in one of the last domestic competitions. Also excited to see what Alexander choreographed for her.

Yes I hope so too. 88 is the required ctes. She has 84.1. Julia Brovall has 81.71. I don’t know what Julia needs to do to get 88. Hopefully Nina Fredriksson and Olivia Philips can also improve. Along with some juniors. Alexandra Ödman was very promising before something happened(injury?)

As I’ve said before I don’t follow women closely, like knowing which jumps they have. You keep track of that :)

Anyway for sure I want to see a Swedish woman at worlds again.

Mia Risa really stands out(96.359 among the Norwegian women. Who do you think has the best chance, if any, to challenge her in the future?

They havn´t changed the CTES after removing one jump from the long program? Hmmm. That could make it more difficult, but again - I think Anita might have the best shot, but all the girls you mention they do have some nice jumps, and a couple of them a triple triple as well. It´s just about putting it together all together and be at their best to be able to get it. Anita might have room for some small errors because her technical layout might be higher, others might have to rely more on having clean programs to come close, I think the issue for most of them are inconsistency or injuries.

I guess you mean from Norwegian skaters? To be honest, after Linnea Kilsand has retired now I think in the upcoming season there is even less competition for Mia, unless she starts off the season like she did 2 years ago where she really struggled, but from what I have gathered, she had an ankle injury some time prior and also changed coaches and moved away to study, so I think that was the reason and she recovered well after the first half of the season.

From a technical standpoint, Pernille With is the one that could challenge her in the next quad, and hopefully she will start doing senior competitions this season, she has been in juniors for a long time and was even old enough last season but still stayed in juniors. She has some pretty nice jumps and seems to get more stable. She delivered well under pressure at JWC. However - Mia seems to always be one step ahead of her. Pernille is getting more consistent but Mia is also doing a lot of 3Lz-3T and 3F-3T in training now. Pernille is still working on landing a single jump 3F and 3Lz in competition, but who knows how it´s in training. Pernille still isn´t the best spinner, she stills struggles sometimes to get her levels but she has gotten better, and I think the same could be said with steps and components score. So I don´t really see her outscoring Mia in maybe next two seasons, but maybe she has more catched up with her in 2 years?

I do like Kaia Kleven, she is a very powerful skater, but also is very inconsistent. But when she land her jumps, they are very pleasant to watch and huge as well. She has great potential. Considering she is now slowly transition into pairs and doing both single and training for pairs, I do think she is probably going to focus on stabilizing her easier triples rather then be competitive against Mia. But who knows, she has changed clubs now, so it might also help her with her singles journey as well. Anyways, i´m really excited about her moving into pairs, I hope she can find a partner.

There is a couple of interesting junior skaters. However, for most of them, i´m not sure about their jumping technique. A couple of them seems to have rotation issues. Katrine Berstad who was at JGP last season has a lot of promise, but last season was a mixed bag. She seems to be eager to move forward with the technical layout though. I keep an eye on her. The one who really caught my attention last season is Thea Ullereng, who will also make her debut in JGP in Riga. She only does a couple of triples, but she was very consistent by landing them by the end of last season. She also has some interesting spins. What impressed me the most, it looks like she has very little ice time compared to some of the other junior skaters when I looked at her ISU bio, so considering she will probably now get more support from the Skating Fed and hopefully more ice time/training hours, I think it will be interesting to see how she will improve with more resources. I have the impression she can be one of those who could possible challenge Mia in the future. I see now she has updated her program for next season, and looks like she got a program choreographed by Sondre Oddvoll Bøe - she will skate to Storm by Eric Radford in the SP. Looking forward to see what Sondre has choreographed for her.

Finland 's summer competition 2026 entries and results, will be hold 8th-9t August.

GP host spots are given based on these results, the best skaters who has not yet a spot, will be selected if the selections are made similar way as previous years. And also some firs season CS spots and JGP spots will be given based on the results. On the senior women's list is unfamirial name Karina Vanuyshina, Kels. Is this Karina Innos and has she changed club and name, does somebody know? She is too young to get married so is this Karina Innos - should be 18 to get married in Finland so there is some other reason to change the name - or is this somebody who has moved to Finland some eastern Europe country? Karina Innos' name is not in juniors either, so that's why I thought if this is she. I don't find any other skater when try to google this name. So the competition from the third GP spot is between Karina, Minja, Janna and Selma and in men Makar, Matias and Valtter, the winner will be chosen. Note: Millie and Emma, both girls, are also taking part.

On seniors they usually allow only national team and challenger team members to take part to this competition. Based on that list and Wikipedia's Finnish version she has also changed club and coaches.

I believe too that Karina Innos is now Vanyushina. Soon we will find out. I hope Solidsport will livestream the event. What a pity that Nella and Arttu are not there.
 
The surname of Karina is now Innos. Maybe there is some other Karina in the club and somebody who has announced the skaters has announced wrong Karina. But her club is Kels, Keravan Luistinseura so she has changed the club.
 
Also Iida and Lotta Artimo - Lotta was announced to juniors - has Wd. I did not find the reason.

Olivia has written her ankle needs to heal and that's the reason she wd. She had prained her ankle in the beginning of the summer, maybe it hasn't healed yet.
 
Andreas Nordebäck has switched clubs, along with Nina Fredriksson and Lovisa Aav, to Stockholms Konståkningsklubb. Radek Horak and Julija Lazdinis (Obertas) are longtime head coaches there. I wonder how this will work out for Andreas in particular.

What happened to Mélanie Joseph anyway? Ulla Papp was recruited as new head coach at Skating & Dance Academy. But Andreas, Nina, and Lovisa left. I think Lilly Almgren-Lidman is still there.
 
Winners of the Finland's summer competition are Minja Peltonen just by 0,07 😮 points total 143,17 and Matias Lindfors total score 216.89.

I edited this post because summer competition is not yet selection criteria for GP TBD host spots. In this article is told, translated from Finnish to English: "The third Finnish representative for the Finlandia Trophy will be named on September 14th based on early season performances." There are three domestic competition from 11th to 13th, I think those are different level because of the same weekend. In one of them is mentioned that there is national team member groups. There is also Tallinn open on that weekend, I think some of skaters will go there.
