Nordic skating (FIN, SWE, NOR, DEN, ISL)

I had a morning chat with Copilot. We talked in Finnish. This post can be moved to thread when GP 2025 season is opened if forum staff wants.

me: Is it sure that figure skating GP hold in Finland 2025

Copilot: Yes, it is certain that the figure skating Grand Prix competitions will be held in Finland in 2025. This means that the Finnish Figure Skating Association has once again received a GP competition to be organized, which will be called the ISU Grand Prix Finlandia Trophy. The competition will be held at the Helsinki ice hall on the 15th-17th. November 2024, and it will also repeat in 20251. also in 2025.

It also says YLE, our national channel has rights to all GP series next season. I am not fan of it, I prefer Isu commentators so I will VPN. The lady commentaror talks all the time and even people have at FB commented about too much talking and she reads those comments, maybe there are other people who disagree.

I think this perhaps involves more of the Nordic countries or Scandinavia? Viaplay has just bought the rights to broadcast skating (including figure skating) for the next 3 seasons, until the end of 26/27 season.
I share viaplay with my brother for other sports. Just saw Grand prix final on their shedule. I wonder if there'll be swedish commentators. Or if they go cheap and use the ISU broadcast.

@snowflake I havn´t been able to figure out yet what Alex Johnson and Agnes Z was doing in Norway  Mia didn´t have a new SP at Nationals, she still skated to Philip Glass. So it seems unlikely they worked on a new program. All though, her ISU bio is still not updated with the new music, so there is still no confirmation about what her music is this season.
However - it could be they just worked with Mia on jumps for a weekend, she had short sessions before with jump coaches like Magri in addition to her regular coaches. Something seemed to have happen between Tallinn Trophy and Nationals, from 119 points to 167 in a few weeks, she skated to clean programs and her jumps suddenly looked so much secure and better. Makes me think she perhaps had worked on jump technique and did some needed adjustment and that made the magic. I don´t know, it´s possible.

Can't you ask her about it on social media? Maybe they are friends just visiting. Hanging out and skating together.

Whatever the reason for Mia's development it's really great! If A&A have something to do with it that's cool.

Keep on 🕵️‍♀️

I´m to shy to ask skaters and coaches directly 😅

Agnes Z was coaching Mia some months last season so it would not have been so weird if she was involved, but a bit surprised to see Alex J involved as well. But, as you say - they could have just have been on vacation in Norway

I hope you sometime will get the answer :)

LOL but after all you are Mia's devoted and biggest fan. I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

Finland has chosen skaters to Universiades and Nordics. Janna will have three competitions in three weeks, quite tough.

Here are all Finland's international competition spots for spring 2025

Probably I will skip GP next time, at least if the competition is still on Sunday. This year the next week at work was quite hard and I am planning to go to Worlds 2026, so I will save money for it.

So last chance to get minimums for JWC is this week/before next week? How does the situation look for the Nordic countries? I´m guessing Finland and Sweden has the minimums in several disciplines.

Unfortunately it looks like Mia is the only skater again with the minimums for junior. Pernille With is missing less then 4 points in total, but she wasn´t able to get them at Volvo Cup this past weekend and she was scheduled to do Bavarian Open but WD (i´m guessing it came too close to Volvo Cup since SP was already yesterday). Daniil Valanov is still missing it by 3.26 points, but is still on the entries for Bavarian, so i´m having my fingers crossed for him.

I´m wondering what the Fed plans to do about the women spot at JWC - Mia is the only skater who got WC minimums as well, Linnea could still get it but there is not much time and competitions, and overall Mia still has better results, so chances are high that Mia will be the only one that has the minimums and goes to WC. They did send her to both last year all though Pernille had the mins for JWC, but the situation is a bit different this year because the first Olympic spots are handed out at Worlds. So question is if they want to leave the women spot open or do they take the risk and send her to both, well aware that it could perhaps compromise the chances of qualifying for the free at Worlds if it´s is too much pressure and competitions? It´s a month between so it´s possible to do both. The good thing is that JWC is in Hungary so she doesn´t have to travel as much between different time zones like last year - Norway - Taiwan - Canada in a span of a few weeks. This would also be Mias last possible JWC, next year she is too old. The last competitions she had 3F as her solo jump in the SP, so it could perhaps seem like they had JWC in mind with the layout, but she made a new FS this year and in that case it needs to be adjusted to juniors.

Finland has several candidates for JWC in women. Iida is at her own level in scores and then Venla behind Iida is quite much ahead the others. So most likely they will go. In men only Matias L. and Arttu have the minimums, while Matias is in a good lead. In ID there are several junior pairs, but nobody on the list, so it must mean nobody has the minimums. There have been mistakes on the list sometimes and they don't update it every day, but usually some days after competitions if somebody reaches SB, so situation is ID is not clear.

It is interesting situation in Finland. If - who ever it will be - a woman skater can get an Olympic spot for Finland she may not be the one who will be chosen to go to Olympics. There are several candidates who are very close, dreaming about the spot and then there is Iida, who will be age eligible to skate in seniors next season. Of course that skater can get two spots but it demands 110% success and maybe some unlucky other skaters, which I do not wish to anybody. Iida starts her FS with 3S, I thinks it may mean she will try 4S someday, I cannot see other reasons to start with the easiest triple. Iida's combilned TES are already 105+. It is in juniors but should be a piece if cake for her to reach senior worlds Tes when she can compete in seniors.

Matias Lindfors is not listed to any competion at local Fed's spring competition spots' list. It may mean Arttu Juusola is the one who will go to JWC. They are the only candidates who have minimums. As Matias did not take part in nationals either, it maybe injury (again).

Matias L is announced to JWC, so maybe he is ok. Lotta Artimo should have been 3rd alternative in women based on rules, but it is Darja Trubitson instead, so she must be injured. The women's spots goes as expected to Iida Karhunen and Venla Sinisalo, other alternatives are 1st Annika Pellonmaa and 2nd Karina Innos.

Iida has posted on her ig stories yesterday trying 5S with a harness. I don't think she will do without harness it but I think it is a sign she will try 4S in a competition soon.

Norway isn´t filling their spot in women, i guess they want Mia to concentrate on Worlds instead. She was the only one with mins. Daniil wasn´t able to get them at Bavarian Open.
