Well summer may be melting away like a snow cone on a hot afternoon, but the new skating season is just ahead! I always look forward to the new season. It's going to be great to see all our favorite skaters and watch the new ones as they appear on the scene.

I am looking forward to seeing Jeff Buttle's new programs and Shawn Sawyer's as well. I hope Jessica Dube has recovered from that nasty accident last season and hope she and Bryce Davison have a great season.

My best wishes to all of the skaters.

:agree:

...the new skating season is just ahead! I always look forward to the new season.

In the coming season, I hope the skaters will perform to their best, leaving no regret.

Oh but wait... I rather wish that their very best performances will come at the right moment, when they need them the most.
If everyone does his/her best all the time, there'd be no drama.
And we'd need ten times the medals that they give them now.

In any case it may be about time to rewrite the header here that says: No Spoilers. Please use the 2006-2007 Events Forum for competition related info. :p

I'm very anxious to see Sasha Cohen in SOI.
As far as watching competitions on tv...I'm anxious to see Evan Lysacek, Kimmie Meisner, Jeff Buttle, Brian Joubert....and everybody else. It's always interesting to see the new faces, too.

I just hope that this time I am able to see the Senior GP events. I onlu saw some of SA and SC last time. :(

just means I have to be able to pay for my tickets to nationals that much more now lol

*sigh* only a few months now! :D

Yes, I agree. Let's get it on.

Unfortunately, without cable, I won't be able to catch the GP's, 4CCs or Worlds on TV. But hopefully someone will be gracious enough to put it on Youtube or provide PBP reporting (which is almost as good as watching  ).

you not have cable, Red Dog..... Don't worry I'll "TRY" (key word) to post results and news through out the season starting with "JGP Lake Placid"

I will also "TRY" to do "pbp" coverage of LIVE TV especially the nationals.

Can't wait for this season to start :)

Thanks in advance for the effort

Red Dog, I feel your pain... Direct TV has let me down for the last time and I'm still reading Harry Potter 1-7 so at least until Monday, I should be able to not throw a hissy fit about the lack of cable... (but of course, being the couch potatoe that I am, I'm sure I'll go crawling back to Comcast...)

For this season, I have modest expectations... I simply want to see what all the fuss is about with the latest crop. Last year, I wasn't terribly impressed, but this season, I'm hoping that the skaters really live up to fan expectations and impress me with their talent. I want that passionate joy back in skating vs. skaters stumbling, looking bored and more concerned with the jumps than the overall package. I wanna see skating that reminds me that I'm an uber skating fan vs. an uber Michelle Kwan fan. Why is that so difficult?

I also wanna see Brian Joubert topless backstage again...:clap:

Bad experience with comcast continuing to bill me long after my cable service in my dorm was up. I'd just rather not go through it again, especially since I can now get broadcast channels in digital format AND in HDTV on my computer (before, I couldn't even get local channels without subscribing to cable service).

Come to think of it, I am a little bit worried about our coverage here in Canada. We have always had great coverage both by CTV and CBC. I just hope it's "business as usual" when it comes to covering figure skating. I know it just has to be! Come on CTV and CBC!!!!! Don't let us down.

I am looking forward to seeing...

A good season from Fumie.

Daisuke with new programs.

Something beautiful from Yukari.

'Le grand retour' from Nobunari.

Miki 'breaking the ice' (during some step sequence most likely).

Yu-Na Kim getting rid of her back problems.

And Mao... floating above them all and smiling cheerfully. :)

My wish for the season is to see skaters from 12 different countries win the 12 medals at both the junior and senior worlds. Unrealistic? You better believe it is!! Still one can always dream! It would make for an exciting end to the season. It can occasionally get a little boring seeing the same skaters always winning everything. I like to see new faces on the podium no matter what country they represent.

Here is what I want to see this season: (Top 10)

1. Yu-Na Kim (KOR) complete a successful season (Hopefully her back is healed)

2. Mao Asada (JPN) and Kimmie Meissner (USA) push Kim and those three duke it out all the way to the 2010 Olympics

3. Belbin and Agosto (USA) win the 2008 World Title (a 1st for U.S. Title) with Dubreuil and Lauzon (CAN) not competing this season an most likely Denkova and Staviski (BUL) not competing as well it should be open for B/A

4. Meryl Davis and Charlie White (USA) challenge the top teams as well as Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir (CAN)

5. Emily Samuelson and Evan Bates (USA) medal in their first trip to U.S. Nationals at senior level.

6. Brian Joubert (FRA) continues to dominate Men's Figure Skating and win a 2nd straight World title

7. Rena Inoue and John Baldwin Jr. (USA) be more consistent and land the throw triple axel as well as qualify to the 2008 World Team

8. Naomi Nari Nam and Themistocles Leftheris (USA) push the top teams and qualify to worlds for the first time

9. Alissa Czisny (USA) be more consistent and push Emily Hughes (USA) and Kimmie Meissner (USA) as she did at the 2007 Nationals and hopes she qualifys to worlds once again

10. Tomas Verner (CZE) be successful this season a medal at worlds,

My hopes for the new season:

1) Stephane Lambiel regains his World title with 2 clean performances, including the triple axel in both programs.

2) Stephane Lambiel wins his first European title with 2 clean performances, including the triple axel in both programs.

3) Stephane Lambiel goes undefeated in the GP season including the GP final, although I am fine with not clean performances during this phase of the season (if one is clean preferably the final). Just hope he is already practicing trying the triple axel in every program though, and not wimping out of them.

4) Delobel/Schoenfeldner medal at Worlds finally, I dont care what color. Just let them win a medal finally.

5) Belbin/Agosto win their first World title (unless Delobel/ Schoenfeldner somehow end up doing it which I would love just as much, or more since Belbin/Agosto still have lots of time ahead to win Worlds). Dont have a blah free dance this season (although their free dance by Worlds was much better then the first one).

6)Moir/Virtue and Davis/White have great seasons and really push each other in their rivalry to be the best up and coming NA dance team. I would love to see 1 of them on the podium at Worlds over Domnina/Shabalin, although hopefully not at the expense of Delobel/Schoenfeldner.

7)Pang/Tong win everything they enter and dominate both Zhang/Zhang and Savchenko/Szokoly both whom I like alot less then them.

8)Inoue/Baldwin rebound and shock alot of their critics with a great season, on par or better to their 2005-2006 season. A bronze at Worlds would be amazing, but am not holding my breath on that.

9)1 of Mao Asada or Yu Na Kim finally wins the World title. Kind of amazing the two women everyone seems to focus on dont have a World title yet, while two of their peers (Meissner and Ando) do. That is sport sometimes.

10)Meissner is able to rebound with a strong season, and a medal at Worlds would be nice too, preferably not the gold though as I would like one of Asada or Kim to join the list of current World Champions in the womens event. Hopefully defends her U.S title in much more convincing fashion then she won last year.

:laugh::laugh:
It is not like they have tried many times... They have been eligble for Worlds for ONE season...

Hm... slightly off subject, but I have a bad feeling that Dance in Canada is slightly going to suffer this year. Last season, with Dubreuil-Lauzon and Virtue-Moir, we had 2 teams on the podium at 4 Continents, and easily kept 3 spots for this year's worlds. Most teams are now retired, split or taking a break, so there are actually only 2 teams on the National Team (instead of the usual 5... although this year started off at 4), Virtue-Moir and Weaver-Poje. Not that I dislike the latter, but they were 20th at last year's worlds and I'm not sure they can be top, say, 8 this year so that Canada can keep 3 places. It would be a real shame to bring it down to two...

I agree. I think V/M are fantastic, but unless they cause an upset and take a medal, the world dance team may drop to two. I absolutely love W/P, but they just haven't been together long enough to be in that top group yet, even though I'm anticipating an improvement this season. Both teams are still very young compared to most dance teams, so it's a lot of pressure on them. I think this still would have been the case even if those other teams had stayed together though. It was the loss of D/L that might hurt dance this year. Hopefully, we're wrong, though. I'd love to see these two teams do exceptionally well at worlds.

True, but even Lefebvre-Markov were older and had more experience, so that would have been a bonus(though it probably would not have made a difference). Even if Virtue-Moir place top 5 (which is extremely probable), the second team will have to place no lower than 8th, which at the moment seems highly unlikely. That would bring the number of spots available to two, and then in 2009 the teams (most likely Virtue-Moir and Dubreuil-Lauzon if they come back next year and not only in 2009-2010) would be pressured to regain 3 spots for Vancouver 2010. Looks kinda rough but... I know Virtue-Moir are up to the task, I'm just not sure about the 2nd and 3rd teams.
