I watched Patrick's practice finally...
Here's my take on it.
Music: is so much better when the crowd doesn't clap...
Costume: Well, Patrick could wear anything and catch my eye

I like the colour of the top on him... but I do think this is a practice outfit... pants are very well fitted

haha
Practice and layout :
Of course, Patrick marked some of the key jumps for us to get the final layout... Here are my impressions
4T-3T : GORGEOUS
3A : textbook and high
4S : actually, it looks like it will be just as good for him as the 4T in the long run. Step out here... but it was a nice jump, good air position, looking quite stable.... If he landed those like this all year, I'd be okay with it

that's a minus 1 or minus 2 in GOE I believe, no big deal.
Patrick takes a break over the Choreographic Sequence, skates to the end of the ice... waits for his cue...
Second half : bonus factor.
4t: doesn't do it... he stopped just before jumping... Probably didn't feel like it was necessary or someone was in the corner there.
3A-3T : ermmm... Why? to show off? Flaunt your fierceness Pchiddy! I say this because it's obvious that there won't be a 3T there, if he does indeed tags one after the 4T. Zayak is watching

and Patrick already repeats the 4T and the 3A.... so I am guessing the triple axel felt really good and he just felt like adding the 3T.... perhaps it's what they have decided to do, if Patrick does like at Finlandia and cannot tag a 3T after one of the first quads.... then at least, he would save about 3 points...
I think with Patrick, the strategy is simple here... he will put it on the first quad or second quad, if not the second triple axel... whatever FIRST works best. There's no point to delay the combo in the FP.
Enough silly banter: what I find amazing is the quality of his triple axel. They were strong already at Finlandia but here, they look higher and bigger. Loving those jumps so much... this is what happens when you push yourself technically adding other elements, the ones you have already feel easier.
3loop: superb quality again... and then the little zigzags i love
Patrick marks the 3Lutz... erm .... i really wanted to know if he would do the 3Lz-2t-2l or the 3lz-1/2l-3s the latter gives more points but patrick hasn't done this combo since the olympics.
3F :doubled... patrick is probably tired.... he goes right into a spin there... so i think that perhaps he combo will happen on the lutz... but still no fixed layout yet.
The program is indeed gorgeous. Pure beauty. What I liked is that the jumps have great quality. It wasn't one of those shaky practice sessions that can happen from time to time (to anyone). It was calm, down to business skating. I like this attitude.
In the end, what I like about adding the 4S in this layout is that it also gives patrick options that can bring up the BV. If he does the 3 jump combo with the 3S, he has the same exact BV as Javi. That means that quadsters not only have to beat clean Javi but they also have to beat clean Patrick, which may not happen if they make a couple mistakes... even one mistake could change things drastically.
I am excited to see him skate in Skate Canada now. I don't care about the results because what I saw in the practice shows that he has improved tremendously in 3 weeks since Finlandia. Very positive to watch.
