Patrick Chan

Did you all watch his Periscope with Paul and Piper?

https://twitter.com/TeamCanada/status/871162125376307200

I just finished transcribing what I could from the "rapid fire" video on my blog post!

My favorite quotes from Pchiddy:

"Apple pie… warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream."

"Our butts are too big. Skating butts are too big."

And his reaction when Piper named him as her favorite Olympian was just... :laugh2: :laugh2: Typed words cannot quite convey the tone of his voice when he exclaimed, "Oh, God!"

9. Patrick Chan CAN
2017 Canadian Championships free skate
They don't call it the Chanadians for nothing. Patrick Chan has really made a case for himself as the greatest male skater that Canada has ever produced - he continued to cement that case here at the Canadian Championships last season with this incredible free skate.

It was his best of the season.

And it came with a little help from his friend, Eric Radford, who composed an absolutely stunning piece for him. And while Chan has done the classics well (Vivaldi, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Puccini) and the modern well (Mack the Knife, Take Five, The Beatles), this is the first time we've seen him go modern classical with Radford's A Journey.

At 26 and in his 10th senior season, Chan may have found a genre that really truly suits him perfectly as a skater of modern elegance. He brought the sport to a new level starting six years ago, and it's incredible to see him find a new gear choreographically. It has become his new masterpiece - and we were lucky to be able to witness it skated this well here at Canadians.

thanks for sharing m001. However, a few things... of course, I am biased towards Patrick but, for me

1. this performance is in the top 5 of the year, without a doubt. Sorry... but that's just it... 9th place?? wow... who is doing this ranking?
2. Eric Radford doesn't compose modern classical music... he composes in the crossover genres.. like film music... and Patrick has done these genres as well if you consider things like tangos and musicals to be in the crossover genre... actually Piazzolla is accepted as a classical composer due to the extremely beautiful quality of his writing...
3. no mention of an old dude landing his 4S? i think that is crucial here, not only the addition of a new quad past 25 years old but also the general improvement on his overall technique and skating skills... don't be fools, it's not because Patrick has been the champion in skating skills for a long time already, that he is not improving there too... his interpretation is improving, his communication too... everything...

finally, really? Perhaps one of the best canadian male skater or the best? What do you need? I see him as one of the best male skater ever... not just in Canada but on this planet and even further....

something you forgot rockerskating : Patrick has the nicest fans, but they also know how great he is... and they are not shy about it :)

This ranking includes all 4 disciplines, even includes some juniors.

Evgenia Medvedeva has been ranked 10th, and she got the 1st place in most competitions.

you are correct m0001 : i didn't vote... and i bet many Patrick fans didn't either.... i think Patrick's skating appeals to the older generation, twitter free generation LOL like me... i am not even that old ;) but i am no longer a teenage fanboy ;)

i understand what you are saying that top 9 when you include all disciplines and juniors is still good but to me, and I will not discuss other skaters as it's not appropriate here, Patrick's journey at Nationals was better than any programs at Worlds except for Tessa and Scott's amazing SD from worlds... nobody else captured the emotion and the refined quality of skating and it was clean! I guess Patrick's blackbird did..:) so let's hope that's higher in the countdown.

PS... I wasn't blaming you as we love these news ;) I was just commenting rockerskating's text as he could have mentioned a few very important things he left out and give Patrick the accolades he deserves as perhaps one if the not the best ever male skater in history.

BBHill, you might appreciate this compilation of Patrick "stickers":

3. no mention of an old dude landing his 4S?

:laugh2: Well, he is 117 in dog years... And yes, old dogs learn new tricks... :laugh2:

Nice words from Rocker, but I wonder why Patrick was not going to stay with "A Journey"? :scratch2:

BTW everyone, this is the time of year when we speculate about music for next season. Since Patrick will not be skating to "A Journey" for his LP, what do you think he ought to skate to?

Another original composition by Eric Radford (or another Canadian composer), perhaps?

:laugh2: Well, if he were a dog, he would be 117 in human years... And yes, old dogs learn new tricks... :laugh2:

speculations :
esqualo SP

+ a strong and powerful sounding piece for the LP... no elevator music please :)

OR

A soft piece for the SP, piano perhaps

+ An enhanced intense version of Esqualo as a LP.

Strange how I had a double post on the last page... Sorry about that!

So does anybody think he'll keep Blackbird? If he isn't keeping "A Journey", I assumed he would keep Blackbird for the SP. But who knows, maybe he'll have two brand new programs for next season...

Esqualo is awesome, and I wouldn't mind it at all if he used it for either program. But since he loves video games... maybe he could skate to a video game soundtrack, too!

Is anyone planning to go to Nationals in Vancouver? It's exactly 7 months from now!:agree:

Isabella Tobias and her fiance Samuel Lites got married this weekend, guess who was there?

As for his Olympic programs, Patrick used to repeat a lot, but now that there's so much recycling in the other top men it would be funny if Patrick is the top man to show up with 2 new programs. I'm not particularly for him keeping either the SP or the FS, not that the music wasn't good but I thought Patrick's elevated the programs rather than the skater and programs made each other better. I enjoyed all of his performances because of him mostly if that makes sense.

I won't be attending Nationals because I intend on going to 2018 GPF in the same city but I will be at Skate Canada this year to catch Patrick before he ends his competitive career. His live skating is intoxicating and originally I didn't plan to go to another competition until 2018 GPF but I really wanted to see him competitively again. I've seen Patrick live twice in shows and once in competition (Skate Canada 2016) but there's just no comparison. Plus I've never been to Regina before so might as well see some new places while we're at it.
