Skatingfan4ever I'm glad to see that you are back to your regular positive self. I was quite worried about you as you seemed to take Patrick's result at the WC quite hard.
I'm quite sure that Patrick (if he wants it) will be at SC because of the host's pick rule. As for the rest, I never paid attention to details because there was always some kind, knowledgeable poster that explained it when the question came up.
Before the start of WC I really thought there was a strong chance Patrick could win the worlds but the final results did not disappoint me. (I really believed the ice conditions played a HUGE factor.) Like Vivley pointed out, his cautiousness with the jumps may have prevented a fall and potential injury. I'm disappointed (but not surprised) by the criticism of his bashers on how Patrick handled the situation. There's a quote by Paulo Coelho "Don't waste your time with explanations, people only hear what they want to hear."
Patrick has given us much to appreciate this year (Skate Canda, GPF, Four Continents). Like you, I just selfishly wanted Patrick to deliver Chopin one more time.
I'm looking forward to the next few months as info about new programs starts to leak out. It'll be fun to figure out where Patrick's artistic vision will take him. Right now I can't think that anything can top Chopin but we Chan fans BELIEVE!
Aw, thanks, blueberryhill!

Yes, I’m feeling great now, especially after seeing all these great pics and such from Japan! I agree with everything in this post!
my prediction : choreo will be simpler next year.... to allow for the jumping pass... I think that's what Patrick was mentioning about P/C's FD... tricky elements weaved smoothly.... so I think we may be surprised once again and I think that there will be a new balance in his skating... I am tempted to think that he didn't plan to add so much tech content this year, so in mid year he was a bit stuck with programs that were almost too intricate...and difficult to perform in the toughest conditions...
4CC can be seen as even more of an achievement under the circumstances.... It's Patrick at his utmost!!!!! Such virtuosity...
So yeah, I am thinking he will bring us a slower piece..... lots of glide, a 4S 2 4Ts and I would think 1 3A ...
here could be his layout
4S
4T-3T
3A
4T
3Lz-1/2-3S
3F
3L
3Lz-2T
if he is really insanely going after BV
then it would be
4S
4T-3T
3A
4T
3A-2t
3Lz -1/2L-3S
3F
3L
any thoughts ?
Either layout would be amazing, but the second one is
Thanks for the welcome everyone.
I agree with you guys that Patrick should keep his choreography a little easier. Increasing the technical content with that complex choreography was too tough for him to be consistently clean, I think. Tweaking programs mid-season is probably always a challenge. I thought his performance of Mack the Knife at Nationals was great, but I hope he doesn't do any more programs of that kind in competition. I want him to do programs that he's comfortable with, enjoys, and that let him do his technical elements without popping/missing rotations or going into the boards, etc. He has such speed going into jumps and gets such height, he really needs a program that gives him the 'breathing room' for those kinds of jumps. Like how he had to add a few seconds in his SP this season to accommodate that.
What’s interesting to me about the transitions thing is that there were some fans who said Patrick’s programs from this season
already lacked sufficient transitions compared to Yuzu’s. We had a thread deviation here after GPF comparing Yuzu’s and Patrick’s transitions, which, unfortunately, I started.

: - lesson learned. So, some fans will likely criticize Patrick again for further lessening his transitions next season. I am curious to see what choreographic elements Patrick retains and what goes by the wayside. Every program he does is special in its own way (even my least favorite, MTK) so I’m sure that we’re in for a treat next season.
patrick & jeffrey to start my day.
omg...
I had never seen this video so thank you for sharing it.... so it's a discovery for me this esqualo... I know Patrick has done tango before and with all the piazzolla going on ice these days, from adios nonino to others... I'd prefer he keeps it as an exhibition... HOWEVER, its timing is close enough for a SP and it does have great bones already... .Perhaps Patrick is thinking about it for next year's SP?
Notes : why Patrick is so good at tango... of course : command of the blade makes the steps convincing.... but I think that on top of that, it is his power and (I don't like the word) masculinity. He does impose a strong presence on ice which is needed in tango. No offense to other skaters doing tango but very few have this edge....
ESQUALO!!!!!

It had been a while since I’d watched it. I've loved it from the first time I saw it. I think it works better as an Ex without the SP requirements possibly taking attention away from the tango steps and upper body movements. He skates with such a quietness and yet is so powerful as he moves across the ice. Quiet power: That’s how I would describe what Patrick has on the ice.
I’ve loved seeing all the pics and tidbits from Japan that have been shared in this thread.

For various reasons, I’ve not posted for a couple weeks. But even when I don’t post, I always lurk.

I have more to post, but this is already plenty long for one post.
