Patrick Chan

omy... i think this is going to be a long season for me.... i won't mention another LP from another skater by name... but those who have read my reports will know what i am referring to... but i cannot think about the possibility of listening to 8 minutes of elevator music back to back...

Sorry Eric... i still love you. I hope you forgive me... and yet, we will see soon enough the whole program... perhaps I am too fast to judge... :drama:

There, there. :console:

I suspected sad reaction from you when I heard the videos. There are two parts to A Journey and the snippets of piano segment were pretty nice so it just may not so bad and intolerable for you. It was the piano playing by Eric that attracted Patrick initially. (Where's the hopeful or fingers crossed emoticon?)

i am guessing that Eric wrote a piano song that was sweet to Patrick's ear... but it was probably just a shortish tune.. .maybe a minute or two... and then the filler came in....

music filler... makes me think of the dentist... maybe that's why we call it dentist music in some languages... rather than elevator music...

maybe, for once, I will be happy about youtube muted things.. but it's not like they will recognize eric's song... unless he's already registered it for copyright... which i doubt....

Patrick... Why! WHY WHYYYYY do you break my heart like this....

:hpull:

but it's okay :) hahahaha i will survive... and next year, we will hear good music.. trust me about this!

Poor 4everchan. Such long season to come. I suggest you mute the music and play a favorite to Patrick's skating instead. If luxury were above and beyond the limitation and definition of music in his performance, I'm sure Patrick can transcend it too. ;)

at least, Patrick will feel the music written for him by a real friend... and not by his neighbour totoro ... (LOL sorry i couldn't resist) i will find something endearing to this ;)

me no likey the music ;)

I was wrong? When I heard the music, the slower, calm tempo seemed similar to some of the classical pieces you had suggested. That's why I thought you might like it.

We'll have to see how Patrick interprets the music and how well his program meshes with it. Maybe the spectacle of his skating will make it tolerable for you. Until then, get your ear plugs... :)

Hi Vivley,

I had sent you couple PM in regarding pass on messages on your Twitter account to Patrick for the Finlandia Trophy. I'm wondering have you received them(PM box full)? Will be appreciated if you could help me get this done before the competition starts.. Please let me know and thanks! ;)
According to this article, he's been landing 3 out of 5 attempts of the 4S, but we probably won't see it here.

Made more updates to my round up post. Here is the starting order for the short program. Patrick is #10:

An onsite report about Patrick's program and the music:

https://twitter.com/sirousamyfs/status/784301648592064513

Google translation: "Free songs over of Patrick Radford's composers use. Unlike other players, it came into almost jump Elements. Amazing slip of the intensity of the place where quiet music swells. Choreography here and there, a modern movement. Impressive."

Also, Patrick must really like Nathan, because he just followed Nathan on Instagram. :)

yup indeed, you are wrong ;) i do not like crossover music... see, I prefer the Beatles over the snippets of music we have heard from today's practice videos.

Earlier on, there were some excerpts with piano that sounded a bit better... (a few months ago) but again, they were very short.

I mean, some soundtracks from some film scorers are great, like Schindler's list or some by Ennio Morricone among many others... so in that capacity, I am understanding when it comes to crossover music... (pop music made to sound like classical music... my definition...)

So to me, and I understand that we all have different tastes, it will be difficult to like that music. I am sure Patrick will skate beautifully on it.... as he is a great skater and he could skate on anything, probably even the jeopardy theme song ;)

However, as personally, I connect better to classical music, I wish that he would skate to some deeper and more refined music... especially since his skating his deeper and refined ;)

I think that perhaps, I love Patrick's skating so much, because he is what I would consider " a classical skater" great lines, refinement, depth, seeking aesthetic perfection at all times, flow, speed, smoothness... that's the kind of music playing I aim to do and the kind of music I love to listen to. I can appreciate other styles but yeah, Elegy, Chopin, Vivaldi, his Aranjuez etc... those were all amazing programs of classical music done so well.

This being said, I also adored his take 5 which is jazz etc... anyways... enough banter... i am so tired i am not even sure I make any sense ;)

For Patrick's description of "A Journey"'s musical genre:

https://youtu.be/g2A18MQzzhA?t=20

He says it's "kinda" classical, and is a 50/50 split, so yes, it is crossover, I suppose.

Sleep well, all! We all have to get up early on a Saturday morning just to watch him skate his SP to The Beatles! ;)

i will be sleeping in the morning... and also working... no time for Patrick this weekend unfortunately...

trust me, it's crossover ;) or as Wilson said "contemporary"

I just rewatched the Chopin ;) I feel at peace .... If ever I don't like this year's programs, I will still be happy that he's skated the most beautiful program ever just a few months ago ;)
