Yes, keep it up, Patrick. You've realized the essentialness of the positive and happy mindset and have strived for it leading up to this Olympics. Stay happy, relaxed and focused when you get on the ice.

I've been preoccupied and having fun with the volatile stock market lately and just found out Patrick will skate tomorrow night. Wow. i've the CBC figure skating paged marked.

Now every time I watch his performances I'm speechless or tearing up or transported to another dimension. (exaggerating much? Perhaps not)

And I wonder, does he get 10s for SS every time he skates? Because I don't see how it can get any better than that. :scratch2:
Just his edges make me cry already. Smooth like butter. He has such a flow... It's magical. :love:

It is hard to believe he will skate tomorrow morning! My only hope is he can perform on the ice as he just wants to.

Well, my mind has been elsewhere lately, and today I realized PATRICK IS SKATING TONIGHT!!!!! Can this really be happening???!!! I feel like the Olympics snuck up on me this time. IT'S REALLY TIME!!!!! The way this season has gone, I'm not feeling the same kind of excitement. I am excited, but I'm A LOT calmer, if that makes sense. It's easier for me as a fan now that Patrick is not really in the medal conversation individually, because I have become open to whatever skating Patrick brings us. The music choices also lend themselves to the attitude of "mistakes are part of life and that is okay." :laugh: Anyway, what a blessing it is that we get to see another outing of DITW tonight!!! Crossing my fingers that he stays calm and skates the way he wants to. If he does, he will leave us all in tears. I can't wait. GO PATRICK!!!!!! :cheer2: :biggrin:
 
How I feel about the Mens Team SP as a whole: :shocked: :laugh: :hopelessness: :ohwell:

Having said that, Patrick's SP was one of the "less terrible" ones. 3rd is a very good result, but I would never have dreamed that he'd stay in 3rd with a score that low. And I suppose men can break 100 with mistakes now? Hanyu was PRISTINE CLEAN when he broke 100 in Sochi. I guess that's what high BV does for you. Shoma deserved the win, but boy oh boy, the event was full of surprises.

I am curious what Patrick said afterward. All the men seemed a little off. If this is what morning skating looks like, I'm not looking forward to more. :laugh2: Patrick looked like he couldn't wait to get off the ice. He actually finished on time with the music but got out of the ending pose very quickly. He did not look calm. I agree with Johnny Weir that Patrick skated with stiff knees. He skated nicely, but not up to Patrick-level smoothness. There didn't seem to be the usual intention behind his movement on the ice. It was beautiful, but very rough. Thankfully, he avoided getting an invalid element. I've never seen an Olympic Event where so many big mistakes were made by relatively few competitors, in the SP no less, where there are less opportunities for mistakes! Wow. Let's hope that on February 16th, EVERYONE skates better than they did last night. I'm not sure how to feel right now -- forgive my rambling.
 
Last post here for today. According to Patrick in the GS article about the beginning of the Team Event, his main issue was his comfort on the ice. He was nervous but felt in control of his thoughts. So he says it wasn't a mental issue but it kinda was? :confused: Take his comments as you will.

“I felt really very much in control of my thoughts and how my body felt,” said the 27-year-old on the start of his third Olympic Winter Games. “It’s been four years since I’ve been here. I am the type of skater that takes time since I’ve gotten older, to warm up and to get up to the quads and get comfortable in competition. This is a long two weeks and I am not going to look back too much and it’s a good opportunity to get the early jitters out.”

“Obviously, I am not super happy with the skate,” said the ten-time Canadian Champion, who admitted to being nervous and a little tight in the upper body. “I am going to be here a awhile and there are a lot of programs to be competed. It’s not the best start I wanted, but I have the support of my teammates. They make me feel so much better, even when it’s not the best skate, they are holding me up and making me feel like I belong here. That’s the best thing about the team event.”

Glad to see him back still 😯

At least he kinda got the nerves out of his system now. Hopefully none of that on the singles event 😀
 
Thankfully, Patrick is in 3rd after the Team Short. I felt bittersweet about the result, but hopefully he shakes up all the jitters and comes back strong in the next events!

I was watching the Olympics on a TSN channel, where the media held a mock athletic event. A selected athlete would throw snowballs at a makeshift moose cut-out. The athlete selected was Mercedes Nicoll, a veteran Canadian snowboarder. This was her 4th Olympics, and she was honoured to ‘finally’ be in the first row of Canadian athletes who marched into the stadium. She said you had to be special to receive an invitation for that position. Mercedes also said she was with seven other invited athletes. Since Patrick was in that first row behind flag bearers Tessa & Scott, he must have been invited. A position of honour, next to being the flag bearer.

Sometimes it appeared Piper & Paul (and other athletes) were also in the first row, but that was an illusion caused by camera angles, and Piper marching too quickly at times (getting a little too far ahead).
 
I'm very happy Patrick was in that honoured position and not carrying the flag.

I feel Patrick will have adjusted for his later performances, including the Team LP if he skates the event, which I think he will.

Come on Patrick, wishing you all the best for tomorrow's FS! You can do it. Go help Canada get that gold!
 
I wish Patrick will be used to a morning competition, relax and skate with confidence tomorrow!

Canada makes a great team and it's very nice to see them so united:)
