Has anyone suggested "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue"? Despite the dire name, it's from a Richard Rodgers musical, On Your Toes. It was created as a dance piece, and the first dancer was ballerina Vera Zorina. I believe it was choreographed by Balanchine himself (Zorina's husband at the time). Later, Gene Kelly created and danced in a version of it in a film, with Vera-Ellen. It's got great changes of rhythm and mood (though it would have to be cut a bit), and it would be great as a partner piece or a singles program. This version is on the slower side but lovely.

Here is a surprising thought - why not Evan? This music might offer a chance for him to use some of the new skills he picked up on DWTS.

After seeing Evan's terric foxtrot last week it would be nice for him to break away from the warhorses and show something different.
 
I know Elene G did a SP to Cabaret in the 08-09 season, but I'd really love someone skate a free program to this entr'acte section of Cabaret: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TorVIsFiZMg . With Chaicago becoming heavily used, Cabaret is different but similarly fun and upbeat. An outgoing skater would have to skate to it though, maybe Leonova, Ovcharova, or Nagasu? I'd even be interested in seeing Yuna try a FS like this, she's never done an upbeat, bold theme for her FS before.
 
I have suggested Slaughter on 10th Ave . a few years running for diffrent skaters. I would really like to see somebody try it, I agree Evan would be great but since he very probably not returning to competition maybe Jeremey Abbott or possibly a dance team, dare a say Virue and Moir?
 
Good idea, Tinymavy. A couple (either pair or ice dance) might be better than a singles skater for Slaughter on Tenth Avenue. This music was written for a duo, after all. A couple can create a greater variety of moves as well as a more compelling narrative with this particular piece.
 
I think Gluck's Orfeo/Euridice dance of blessed spirit is a wonderful piece for a lady skater who is light, ethereal, balletic and can give the appearance of slightly fragile. I listened to Joshua Bell with a chamber orchestra performing this piece on the radio earlier today.
 
I hope our favorite skaters (and their coaches and choreographers) are as well informed about music as some of the people on this site! If they are, the next season should be wonderful.

The Orfeo is very lovely and serene. Would it have the strength to hold up under the demands of a long program, though? Maybe it would work as a short program, with cuts. (There's a lot of repetition of the themes anyway, as I recall.)

I think the Chopin Ballade might call up some really interesting choreography! Again, though, I think it will need to be a short program because it doesn't have enough changes of tempo. Mao did a great exhibition with Chopin a few years ago, of course.

Quixote seems very much a Plushenko piece. Korobsushka has long been one of my favorites. Very infectious piece, I would love for an ice dance team use it for a folk OD. Yes, I could see Mao skating to this, it is similar to her 2007 FS. The joy and speed that Mirai would bring to this music would be amazing to behold.

Plushenko? That's an interesting thought; I guess the thing is, Plushy, imo, is not quite the most artistic skater to me and I feel like he wouldn't be able to hit the little subtle shifts in music and nuances that I believe Yu-na could do. That and Yu-na definitely has the speed and power to command this music for me :love:

Great idea, Joe! Or how about Lizst's Mazeppa? The music is a similar scale and intensity.

I suppose it would be a little too cute for Lambiel to skate to something from Rossini's opera William Tell? Swiss legendary hero, Swiss skater...seems like a good fit.

Since we're on stirring music, what about Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture? It has a good variety of tempi, a fast section and then a slower lyrical section. And it's rather beautiful, I think. Yet I can't remember its being used, at least not recently.
 
Ack! There's I song I want a skater to skate to... but I don't know its title and nor can I find a YT video for it! :( It's a Bach piece my teacher had me play a few years ago and yet, it still remains as one of my favorite Bach songs.

That one seems tough! I can see Mirai skating to it but it would be a challenge. I thought of Takahashi for that music. For his long program. He could easily match the intensity of the first part and he'd be gorgeous in the slower middle part.
