There's always been a large population of Polish, Czech, German, Slovak, Italian, Romanian, Austrian, etc. in Pittsburgh.
Philadelphia OTOH has more Irish, due to the immigration fleeing the famine in the 1840's.
Mmmm. So the exact opposite from what I deduced from el henry's example.
That this is the case is actually very interesting!
So, the city that has large populations from central Europe understands a typically Ulster phrase, but the city with a large Irish population doesn't.

Ic3Rabbit is right, Pittsburghers are more central and Eastern European than any other, although of course there are some Irish.
