Random Confessions

:(, wish I could share!

And well, I told my mom today that now I dream to save and go to Montreal 2020 Worlds and she is like 'go for it'. And I already planned bouquets for PSquared for next year! :) :) :)

Don't worry, I plan to eat as much pierogi as I can for 3 days striaght when it's Chritsmas, I'll get my share :)

And wow, you're planing to go to Canada?

And wow, you're planing to go to Canada?

Apparently:laugh:, I know it may sound cheesy or naive, but...yhis year, going on 3 competitions for the first time in my life, really opened my head and helped me believe that anyhing can happen; Grenoble experience taught me to have a dream, a plan and execute it to its fullest. So I started to estimate costs and calculate formalities for Montreal. It will happen on my 30th birthday and I cannot imagine a better way to celebrate it, doing what I love:)

I was just sat at Starbucks, and looked over to see a woman, and thought, she's very pretty. Then I looked at the man, and lo and behold, realised I was sitting next to Sinitsina/Katsalapov!! But they were having a nice chat in Russian, and so I didn't want to interrupt to ask for a signature, and anyways I needed to get to my flight.

But then, I was getting on an escalator to my flight gate, and who was in front of me? Dmitri Aliev!! :eeking: I'm quite an Aliev fan. But again, too shy to ask, so I just smiled at him. And then I saw Betina and Sergey in the queue!

Turns out the Moscow flight has a gate near to the Heathrow flight.

Anyways, a cool way to end an awesome competition.

That's so awesome! The only skater that I have ever seen within maybe a 2 metre distance was Kolyada. Last year my sister and I attended Nepela Trophy but unfortunately had to cut it short and leave the arena during Men's FS. We left after maybe two warm-up groups (total splat fest btw), while some skater was waiting for his results in the K&C. We were in a hurry, running along the completely empty corridors when suddenly we saw Misha, warming up and jogging. He ran past us but then I overcame my shyness, turned around and shouted "Good luck, Misha" and he shouted back "Thanks". :) And he ended up winning that competition, despite a really bad SP. :yahoo:

There were a lot of threads archived a few days ago.

I'm not sure what thread you are talking about. But, have a check through this season's archives:

https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?667

If you find the thread in there, you can use the report option to request to have the thread restored.

There is another thread that I am going to request to be restored as well (albeit not right now). So, you won't be the only one doing it.

Ballet thread :)

https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?59491-The-Great-Ballet-Thread

You could maybe ask for the mods to reopen it by reporting the first post and asking them to reopen it :)

Great minds think alike, Sam! :agree:

Except, the thread in question was archived a few months ago rather than a few days ago, and so ended up in the 2017-18 Season Archive rather than the 2018-19 Season Archive that I thought it would be in.

Which would explain why the only ballet related thread I could find was one from The Edge that Alexz hadn't even posted in... :rolleye:

Glad it's all been worked out now.

Thank you, thank you guys. I will try to ask to recover it. Most def will post few more vids there. It was a useful thread..

For the past couple of days I've had these weird, disturbing dreams. I usually don't dream when I sleep, so this has not been helping my quality of sleep (which is not top notch in the first place, but anyway). And just now, I've had the most refreshing dreamless sleep session I've had so far. I was dozing during a lecture. I am giving up on understanding how my body functions...

JGPF/GPF schedule printed, sleeping for the rest of week - planned, to catch possibly the most of stuff live:). Waking up at 4 - 4.30 AM on Friday, Saturday and Sunday is the key to watch all Senior segments live, fingers crossed! And soooo excited to see PSquared again this week, even 'just' on TV (after Grenoble experience nothing feels the same for me:laugh:)

Definitely a criminal confession - I am actually more excited about Golden Spin rather than GPF :gclap:

SAME. Like x100000, Men's line-up at Golden Spin looks awesome and already jealous of those who will witness magnificence of Vincent FD in person - this is an 'IT' program for me of the season, regardless of how it is scored:love:

Nothing criminal about this confession if there are two of us already :ghug:

P&P's Vincent, oh my, I can't watch that program without a river of tears - I can't imagine how anyone can remain indifferent watching that sheer masterpiece. Definitely an IT program not just for this season, but for the history of Ice Dancing I dare say!!!! I made a banner in honour of this program, it was seen by them and I never forget the excited face of Piper when she spotted it, and I even got a kiss blown by Paul :luv17: and they posed for a picture holding my banner!!!
This would have been absolutely an IT event for me to attend under any other circumstances... but alas, this time it was just too soon after IdF, where I spent way too much of my measly savings!!! :sad4: (but of course, it was an expense well worth of spending!)
Let's keep our fingers crossed for a live stream!!!!!

The sunflower one, right?? I saw her noticing it and excitedly ran for it to receive it!!! They are one of the few skaters who show genuine appreciation to their fans, not just out of politeness/correctness - you just can't help but fall in love with them even further when you come in contact with them

Yes, this one:), I got that idea first, even before like planning my travel to France - to make something by hand, personal and related to them and this special program. I actually debated going to K'n'C to give them the gift there, but there was a guy 'guarding' the area that did not allow any interactions so I risked calling them/Piper by boards where I sat, she saw me fortunately and got the gift:):):)

My body has started refusing sleep. Like, I feel sleepy, I crawl onto bed, my brain goes on FULL ALERT MODE and refuses to sleep. It's probably why the headaches have started again, if the migraines return I am donating this body as scientific research material. I'll just watch the GPF as a wandering spirit.

Sounds like me. I’ve had sporadic bouts of incurable insomnia my entire life — turns out that’s a hallmark of my autoimmune subtype, who knew? — and a solid sleep cycle is not my forte, given that my body lacks a stable control centre. I love sleeping only every other night. (Though that’s actually better than the time I was awake for 72+ hours.) You might want to look into Rozerem — without getting too into the weeds, it’s basically a reverse-engineered melatonin, so it’s far more effective than OTC melatonin. It’s not going to make you insta-sleepy (at least, it doesn’t do that for me) or put you straight to sleep like a more common sleeping pill such as Ambien, but it helps your body establish and maintain a regular sleep cycle. And since it’s just melatonin, it’s not dangerous. The only issue might be insurance coverage. It took me over a year and a half of fighting with my insurer to get the stupid script covered, and I can’t take modern sleep meds (Ambien, Lunesta, Belsomra, etc.), benzodiazepines are not valid except as an emergency measure and weren’t working, and nobody even stocks barbiturates any longer (because they’re a bad, bad idea).

If you go to bed and can’t sleep after 20-30 minutes, don’t be afraid to get up so you don’t condition your body to associate “bed” with “not sleeping.” And, seriously, leave the electronics far away. You’ve probably heard it all before, but it’s valid... “You’re an insomniac because you eat chocolate after 4PM,” not so much. :noshake:

Apparently some study showed that Americans think Russians look miserable, and that both countries report nearly identical levels of happiness but Russians show it in public less.

So that's why random taxi and bus drivers ask me, "Are you okay?" when I'm just sitting there minding my own business without a care in the world! I hate that... 'cause I'm a superstitious Russian(-American), and when I answer that I'm fine, I feel like I'm jinxing myself and something will happen to change that I'm fine!

Someone should do a study on how culture clashes like that can still happen even though I've never even been to Russia, nor have my parents...

I recall that study being discussed in mainstream news, but I don’t think it was just being Slavic and/or having Slavic facial features so much as people who were born and raised in Russia versus America. American society places a premium on smiling, extraversion, and a certain kind of politeness (“Have a great day!”) that isn’t found in other cultures. One thing I heard in Slavic studies was how Russians found “How are you?” an odd icebreaker in American conversation, as it’s generally not asked with an expectation of a negative and/or sincere answer, which is an adjustment from the cultural norm of “ask a question, get an honest answer.”

That being said, I am also somewhat Slavic in the face and have a somewhat serious resting face as well, probably not helped by the dark hair and features in a city of blond-haired and blue-eyed WASPs.

Yeah, it's definitely not just Slavic facial features in my case. Even though I was born and raised in America, I'm still way more Russian culturally in a lot of ways. I literally can't do that big ear-to-ear American smile unless I'm really, sincerely happy, at least not without looking like a serial killer. And don't even get me started on "how are you?"

Thank you! I wish I had known this in school. I'd have spent a lot less time arguing with cameramen on picture day. "Smile." "...I am smiling." "Smile more." "Like this?" "...That's not more."

You and I should start a group therapy thread! I feel you. Except I don’t even know what I am culturally — but I definitely was more at home living in Europe than in America.

As for the smiling... my mother once told me my school photograph made me look like a future school shooter. Photography day was always a treat. [emoji23]

This is probably a good time to tell this story.

There are 2 Russian skaters in particular who for years whenever I saw either of them, I have always thought "boys, she is a cross wee biddy!"

I have since become connected with both of them on Facebook. One of them doesn't use Facebook much, so I can't really assess what she is really like. But I have been chatting with the other, and have discovered that my long-held verdict on her could not be further from the truth. She is actually a really lovely girl.

It just goes to show, the old saying is right:

"don't judge a book by it's cover"
