Rika Kihira

Rika is amazing for her age. She seems so mature and classy and she is just a child. And she is so beautiful, like a china doll. Loved seeing her and Liza jumping 3A back to back.

I cannot get over the fact she is just 16. She seems so much older in her skating (in good way).

Hopefully she slays tomorrow to end the season in high note. Even if she does not hit everything, she has high chance of winning tomorrow actually.

I'm going to pretend that free program didn't exist and focus on the positives on the short. Hopefully she's no longer scared of her SP 3A and we'll see more success next season! She must be exhausted with three competitions in two months plus the shows.
 
well never mind the free program. She has a silver in the team event, which is as good as could be expected for Team Japan.

Hopefully she can get some rest and new skates that do not have to be hold together by a duct tape.
 
I feel like she jumps the 3A too much in the warm ups. Whenever she jumps it a lot in warm up she has trouble with it in the program. Rika had a great first senior season overall. She deserves a break, she had so many comps this season.
 
I'm sure Rika has a billion ice shows and quad training lined up, but I hope she gets a break to go on roller coasters and eat takoyaki like any other Japanese girl :P She challenges herself so much and works crazy hard, and I don't want her to burn out!! Go on vacation, kid.

PS I also kinda worry when she nails the 3A too much in warmup... and when she doesn't :dbana: I wonder if we'll be stressed about her 4S/4T next season like this and the 3A will become magically stable a la Nathan Chen, or if we'll have 2-3 different jumps to worry about now. Apart from her 3A Rika is bulletproof on her jumps, so... ok, why am I talking about this now? Save this for September!!

The FS will be choreographed in May, when she will go to Colorado. She will also be training both 4S and 4T there. :yay:

omg yessss Shae does the best shorts, maybe she'll make a fun short program that'll hype Rika up to land that 3A, the soft/calm thing wasn't working this season.
 
Shae Lynn's SPs for Nathan are pure eclectic charm! I hope she can create something wild and wonderful for Rika to hook her toe pick into :luv17:
 
Rika has said that she wants to skate to music she's not good at yet.
(something along those lines)

So I think we can definitely expect something new.

Rewatched Rika's NHK Trophy FS just now. I hope she gets two equally beautiful vehicles for her skating next season!

edit: Meant the free program! Though honestly I also really loved her short, just wouldn't choose the NHK version to revist.

Rika's quads are loading at 85% for 4S and 15% for 4T. She wants FS layout with 1 quad and 2 3As (1 in 1st 1 in 2nd half) next season She will train her lower body to prepare.

I have heard that the quad percentages are actually percentages that she'll include the 4S or the 4T respectively in her program, which, I feel, is a little more reasonable than seeing such a lop-sided discrepancy for jump consistencies.

With your layout, she'd be one of the few women who would do a 3Lz as their last jump. Compare to the mid-top tier women that scramble to put their 3Lzs first. The fact that Rika could feasibly pull this off is amazing, isn't it?

And then...when the 4T comes...she can replace the 3Lz-2T with a 3Lz-3Lo :eeking:

yeah, I just heard that. Either way, it seems the 4S is the most reliable jump as of now, as I'd expect. If she can have just a 4S this season, that's already amazing.

Well, 14yo Rika was landing 3Lz as her last ELEMENT(and 3S as her second to last element) in Juniors so...
And she was landing 3S as her last element last season as we all know so yeah, I don't doubt she could have a 3lz as her last jump.

I'm not so sure about -3Lo combos, those are very tricky. We have seen some footage of Rika landing beautiful 3Lz-3Lo and 3F-3Lo combos but who knows the consistency of those.. Not to mention that the 3Lo is her most scary jump. You would think it's the 3A but... Rika is such a chaotic child.

It's unlikely to see her do a -3lo combo, but i guess that she can get an higher BV with that.
