Russian Nationals, Jan. 4-7, 2008

Has anyone heard if Tamara M. has anything to say about what Vasiliev said, she and K/S doesn't seem to have much to say, of course I don't blame them.

Just saw the K/S long program again and the look on Yuko's face makes me so sad. Her emotions after having to stop because of the injury shows on her face. It's a pity that K/S can't enjoy their win because of everything.

I listened to Moskvina's interview after the championship but I guess she hadn't heard Vasiliev's comment at the time. She was pleased with the victory, talked about how you have to include difficult elements in the program, and then about the preparation to the Euros.. She said she admired Yuko for her courage, that she asked her duringt he break whether she was able to continue and Yuko said yes... Nothing about their rivals, as far as I remember.

Thanks again, you always have the information we need. I wonder what her comment will be now that she has heard it. It will be quite interesting.

Vasiliev is a former pupil of Moskvina. She always says nice things about him. Or says nothing.

Thanks, the only reason for that is that I speak Russian  I also think Moskvina won't say anything and Vassiliev should learn this attitude from her - don't say anything if you have no nice things to say.

I heard a rumor that Trankov had always some kind of bad relationship with Smirnov from old days. I think it is better for him to keep his mouth shut no matter what he thinks. He does sound as sour loser. I also liked how much caring relationship Smirnov and Kawaguchi have, great team!!!

I've found an interesting interview with Vasiliev. It's an old one. He says there Moskvina tried to 'steal' Totmianina/ Marinin from him, acting behind his back.

If it's true, they are no friends.

But why? Why do they have such a bad relationship?

I know I loved that Smirnov looked so caring towards her and instead of Yuko telling the panel of her injury he took the lead and told them himself and the whole time he was looking at her to make sure she was okay. Sweet :)

Vasiliev always acts as if everybody is against him and his team. To him, there's always some sort of conspiracy in the working. The bitter rivalry between TT&MM and three Chinese teams was another example.

He always believes he's the only one who has the 'secret' sauce to make champions. It's kind of amusing to watch the unfolding drama between his team and Moskvina's.

I love your line about the secret sauce, cracked me up for a bit, maybe he is just not so sure about his own pair and that is why he tries to have this complex of everyone is out to get him. lol

I'm not denying he's good. M&T have indeed improved a lot much to my surprise. They mastered a 3twist, a 3S, 3t+2t this season alone and are fairly consistent.

But Vasiliev needs to let his ego go away. His teams are generally quite bland. TT&MM and M&T can land those big tricks, but at what cost? There's not much transition at all, nothing innovative.

I am now watching the other lower-ranking Russian teams' pefformances, and find them very refreshing and creative. Ushakova/Karev are awesome, so are the fourth place finishers(don't even remember their names).

I found a series of articles in www.allsport.ru about the M&T, K&S and Oleg

In one article, Maxim says that he and Maria sort of were ready before the RN stared to win silver because at CoR they saw how the Russian fed and their judges were treating them and marking them.

In other article Smirnov said that he stopped the program aftet the fall because he has seen Yuko fall before, he said something like "before Yuko would fall, I would fall, we would laugh and we keep on going" but this time he saw that Yuko started grabbing her arm and he knows that that injury (the dislocated shoulder) it's not new for her so he was worried about her and that's why he stopped the program.

And in other article Oleg sais something like "those who have the federation on their back, can perform a program in parts or slices without getting any penalty points for it" :disapp: He said that yes the stop was in the rules and all that but still not all of them get the same treatment. However he does admit M&T made mistakes in the SP and the FS.

I wonder how many top teams will copy the Pavlova lifts next season?:) Both Ushakova and Ilushechkina created very interesting and unusual lifts.

I'm glad K/S know each other enough that they can tell of the others problems.

Thanks Ximena for the articles, I'm very disappointed in Oleg's statement.:

Don't worry, we need some drama these days. We haven't had some out-of-ice wars for a while. Just hope that it will be similarly heated on the ice as well.

Lifts are not easy to copy. Male and female skaters with similar size will not be able to master those complex and innovative positiions.
