Senior FD

Weaver/Poje

Dr. Zhivago

missed opening 2 minutes

content of step sequences noticibly a lot higher than all teams so far

crowd likes it a lot, coaches pleased (in contrast to their OD where I noticed not so much reaction)

there's good stuff in this, expression still a bit stiff if you're going to compare them to the best... i'd like to see more passion expressed or something... but they are undoubtedly concentrating on mastering difficult stuff

relaxed in K&C

85.42 -- 170.23 1st place

Crone/Poirier

generally effortless looking.
i don't think their lines are as good as they could be in places, yet.

Paul fell in one corner, on nothing in particular, big gap between them for a moment

overall performance quality is there, but i do see more maturity, naturally, from some of the other couples in presentation

coach laughs: "you trying to make it look harder than it is?"

84.40 -- 175.58 1st, but not 1st on this performance... i think that's right

I actually was unimpressed with V/M - looked like they were just throwing extreme difficulty in, shaky with it, and not focusing on the other aspects of the program. Like that lift where she was standing on him - yes difficulty, balancing with no hands, but her foot was moving back and forth on his leg like crazy.

I loved W/P's FD. I thought they had amazing musicality and expressed the theme very well.

Crone/Poirier - yes, they should be ahead overall but not that close to W/P's FD IMO - they got a huge deduction for the fall, yet were 1 point off in the FD? That fall extremely disrupted the program - he was apart from her for 5+ seconds, trying to catch up, so that should have affected their score more. I would have had them a bit further behind W/P.

Virtue and Moir looked great for a first outing. Still a little ragged in parts and they were thinking, the lifts were a bit rough at times, but tons of potential for this and the footwork already looked fantastic.

C/P - really enjoy this team, but the FD music leaves something to be desired. It's too much the same all the way through with no ups and downs. It doesn't help them in any way.

and so here we go:

Virtue / Moir

it has to be said, they were VERY rough in this performance, much more than OD. I think stamina is an issue, but they were also just kinda off in places

94.68 -- 197.77 and of course 1st

encouraging toward each other afterwards. breathing hard.
Scott praises Tessa's work in coming back, in the interview in the arena

more comments to come....

Could someone who was lucky enough to see this live describe what Tessa and Scott's costumes looked like? I have an image in my head and want to see if it matches up!

One thing I can say for sure was VM's FD is very different from that of French and there are tonnes of difficulties/innovations packed into it. This program feels more like an acrobatic/gymnastic exercise than dance at this moment.

As for liking it, well I'm sitting on a fence about VM's program right now, I need to let it grow on me a bit. However, very decent showing for the first competition.

Virtue / Moir

opening lift was good, but all of the others had struggles.
twizzles were good
Scott slipped during those "mini-splits" at the music change
were ahead of music by the end

The program was really quite messy, but i have faith that something very good may come of it... but it seems a tall order and they seem to need a LOT of work, i'm not even sure what they showed tonight was at typical "1st grand prix of the season" level.
Stamina a definite issue.
But.. well they got through it, got it out there, which is important step. they were kinda rallying each other after it was over.

I'm blanking right now on whether 94 is a good score, but the content is certainly there anyway, despite major difficulty in delivering it smoothly

costume:

Scott, mostly plain dark-coloured or black vevety v-neck thing, and matching pants

Tessa: colours green and purple, a dress with a big green ?flower? on the front, sequined strap-lines coming out of this, minimal on top... long flowing skirt several tones of purple, sectioned (sorta like leaves or petals?)

this is from memory, and i'm generally hopeless with clothes... it really looked better than it might sound
