Senior Ladies SP

Well, except for mistakes on all of her jumps, no combo, step out, fall out, underrotation, Alissa's skate was OK? :frown2:

It's like, on a totally unrelated note, no matter how much Sasha Cohen fell at the Olympics, I still think she should have won.

Shizuke won fair and square. Sasha's amazing spins/spiral earned her silver which she could have lost under 6.0, and Suguri's weak spins cost her bronze.

awww. That puts her what? currently 5th? Maybe she can pull herself up again? Although, it would be interesting to see Kahle go to worlds for the first time...talking about blindsiding.

I believe Czisny is in fourth.....

My point is, what happened to CoP rewarding the whole package? Zhang, along with Czisny, and Nagasu, has the best spirals and spins in the whole competition, and despite being downgraded on her combination, those aspects should earn her so many positive GOE points. I just really don't get it.

But then what would the point of competition be? How is figure skating a sport? We already know who will have the best spins and spirals. The jumps and the overall performance level that day are what determine the placements.

Zhang does though get rewarded for those things. However, Zhang's skating quality in terms of edging, speed isn't first rate. Meissner is much better at these things. And that matters. Nagasu is better at these things as well. If there is one thing, it's that the other youngsters Wagner, Mirai, and Rachael now have an opportunity to break out of Zhang's shadow.

Geez what's with all the mistakes, and why was Becky's score so low? I sure hope that Mirai and Ashley skate well now.

MM!!!! It's a nerve wracking evening after a long day at work and I'm drinking wine....and, well, it's red wine so you might imagine what my laptop screen looks like now...!!!!! Poor Alyssa, seriously with the injury and pain....good for her for going for it despite the injury.

Oh, I disagree! If these skaters were doing single Lutzes with no combo and getting downgrades and negative grades of execution on every jump at the World Championships, their scores would be in the 40s range. These 50s scores for these major mistakes is being very generous.

Totally agree

OMG, this is turning into a splat/mistake-fest....is it intense nerves??? is the ice bad?? what are people in the know saying????

OMG, I never thought I'd say this, but in this competition, the CANADIAN GIRLS could beat the American girls! Shocking.

Unbelievable. There is no way Kimmie just skated the best program. I don't even see why the judges care that much. They could put Rachel, Mirai, and Caroline in the top three spots and still send whoever they want to worlds. I guess it won't look to good if the US champ, and best hope for a world medal, gets defeated by a bunch of youngsters.

Am I crazy, or is anyone else wondering how Meissner was just placed first?

Not really, after the fall Kimmie played it safe... she did a 3lutz-2toe instead of gettin downgraded on a 3lutz-horrible 3toe... her double axel prolly got +GOE and her spins were good and she had a nice speed and good spins... and yeah, she was inflated with the scores. Our little Zhang still flutzes and was very slow.

You're absolutely right! It's like karma on some of the American viewers who have poked fun at the Canadian women in the past. I'm in the USA, but I've never spoken an ill word at another nation's ladies. Unfortunately, I've seen some very mean-spirited comments on youtube from American posters against the Canadian ladies.

Are we saying that no other skaters are comparable to Kimmie Meissner in this event? If there are skaters comparable to her ability, did their performances really lack in other areas besides the obvious mistakes on jumps? Was Zhang's program any better or worse than she's skated the rest of the year when she got much higher marks? If yes, then it is just my own bias speaking, but I don't think that is the case. I think there are plent of skaters who could challenge Kimmie, and when they're all working with major mistakes, I think it should be more of tight race.

In 2000 Michelle Kwan fell on a triple toe in her short program and was in third place. I do not see how this is any different. I know no one has come out and skated a program like Sasha did in that year when she got first, but there is just no way with such an even playing field that Kimmie should be five or six points ahead of Zhang.

And with a 50 from Czisny, and a 54 from Liang....I'd say it isnt UNREASONABLE to say Czisny is still in it....without taking in consideration Nagasu, Flatt and Wagner.

Well, all I can say is this is a major chance for Mirai.
I'm excited but also nervous to see Mirai skate.

Aside from falling and stepping out etc, everyone looks....feeble and uninspired should I say.
